U-18s in second successive defeat

Everton's Under-18s suffered a second successive defeat as West Ham ran out 2-1 winners on Saturday afternoon.

Despite having lots of the ball and controlling large chunks of the game, the Blues were made to pay for not converting their possession into chances.

After edging the majority of the first half, the visitors found themselves behind just before the interval. Ibou Touray conceded a free-kick on the edge of the box and the mistake proved costly as the hosts dispatched the set-piece with aplomb.

The young Toffees responded well however, and their efforts were rewarded when Gethin Jones levelled the scores on the hour mark. The midfielder made a cutting run and was well positioned to finish a move at the far post.

From there, the Blues appeared to be in control but were caught out against the run of play for a second time. The Hammers broke down an Everton attack and countered down the right to make it 2-1 before Jones and Matthew Pennington both squandered late chances to level.

Should we be concerned about our youth prospects at the moment? The U21's are currently getting drilled 5-1 by west ham...at home too! That's the likes of Barkley, Vellios, Lundstrum and George Green. Surely something wrong
