Kilmarnock boss derides Kennedy bid

Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels has rejected out of hand Everton's bid for his promising teenage winger, Matthew Kennedy, describing the offer as "derisory and disrespectful".

Though he left the door open saying that things could change if talks continue and, presumably, if Everton up their bid for the 17 year-old, he expects Kennedy to play in his side this Saturday once the transfer deadline has passed.

"There are all sorts of rumours going around," Shiels is quoted as saying, "but at this moment he is playing for me on Saturday.

"They (Everton) have made a derisory offer which was disrespectful to the club and unsettled the player which I wasn't happy about.

"But that can change as you know and if we were speaking tomorrow it might be different but hopefully it won't be.

"I spoke to him and he is okay."

Bloody hell, well done Toffeeweb, this was put on quick, it was only on that Sky Sports transfer clockwatch thing, like 5 minutes ago.

I don't understand the whole 'derisory and disrespectful' nonsense. Managers often seem to come out with it.

You're Kilmarnock, the bid would be quite low as none of your players have pedigree. He's seventeen and has never achieved anything.

If you think he's worth more, just reject the bid and say he's worth more. Its economics, respect has nothing to do with it.

There's a pecking order to these things. The Manchester clubs want one of ours, and invariably (though not always) we have to sell them. We want a player from the backwaters of Scotland, and he will probably want to come. The manager is just playing the game, criticise Everton and then take their money.

Agreed Mark. Does anyone know what the bid was??

Scottish clubs are playing the "spoiled bastard" routine because their old firm cash has gone for at least 3 years – unless Kilmarnock get relegated.

Kenny Shiels just wants more cash of course and he has seen silly money get paid for british players this week and none more so than today with Blackburn paying crazy money for Jordan Rhodes.

His player is promising not proven even in scotland and the money offered must reflect that. David Moyes loaned players to Kilmarnock previously and I suspect that after that "derisory & disrespectful" crack he won't do so again.

Just who has been disrespectful is open to debate.

I think the bid was around £200k which for a Scottish kid with all of 3 games under his belt is anything but derisory not like he's the new Scottish Wayne Rooney is it ? Oh sorry yes he is. Personally I think they'll moan till about 9.55 pm tomorrow then take it saying it was the best deal they could get.

Sound like one for the two Scottish managers to sort out, in whatever the customary way is North of the Border in such circumstances.
