Irish defender delighted with new deal
Defender Shane Duffy has signed a new three-year contract which could keep him at Goodison Park until 2015. The 20-year-old has made eight first-team appearances for Everton, making his Premier League debut in January having been recalled from a loan spell with League One Scunthorpe.

"I'm delighted to get it done. It's taken a bit of time to get it sorted but I am happy now," he told evertonfc.com.

"I have been here for a while now and loved every minute of it.

"Now this is sorted I can focus on working hard and continuing to improve."

Would love to see him get a run but realistically its not going to happen unless two of Heitinga, Jags and Distin get injured.

As such I would really like to see him go to a midlevel championship club where he can hopefully improve at the nearest level to premiership. Of course there should be a recall clause should we need him...

Good news - hope he gets a few runs. Seems to play well with Heitinga.

As an aside, I have read that Coleman played at right back for Rep. Ireland in their friendly against Oman at Craven Cottage the other night. He was singled out by Trap for his good attacking performance. He played well in Carling Cup at RB too. So, maybe we have a few good defenders waiting in the wings.

The Duffy signing always evokes the "girlfriends mates sister works in a hairdressers and heard" post for me. A couple of years ago I was walking home & noticed this elderly lady coming in the opposite direction chatting away on her mobile phone. Don't know why but I always smile when I see the older generation embracing new technology.

Anyway, I digress... but just as I got her length I heard her say "So... he's signed for Everton then." OK, I chickened out (not wanting to be arrested for accosting a pensioner) but checked ToffeeWeb regularly every day for the next few weeks & soon enough Duffys's low-key signing was announced.
Anyway delighted he's progressing!

He'll get some runs in Cup matches, especially as Jags and Baines get more time for England.

Think this is great news, he obviously has a head on his shoulders as he knows that he has to bide his time before he gets a run in the team. Ideally I'd like him to be shipped out on loan as it did a lot for his confidence last season.

Apparently the only reason he's hasn't been shipped out yet is because the contract negotiations took several weeks to sort. Expect him to go out on loan pretty shortly.

This is excellent news, with Distin and Heitinga reaching the twighlight of their careers, I expect Duffy to play a major role in years to come. He has the potential to be a top defender IMO.

Cracking news. I'm yet to be fully convinced by Duffy but he really is a good prospect and Kroldrup aside, I think Moyes knows a good centre back when he sees one so it's good to know the staff have such faith in him.
