Season › 2012-13 › News Back to square one for Vadis Michael Kenrick , 13 September, 15comments | Jump to most recent The final word on the Vadia Odjodja-Ofoe failed loan deal has come from Club Brugge general manager Vincent Mannaert, and Everton will have to start again from scratch if they want him in January. "The transfer window is now completely behind us and now the focus is back on Club Brugge," Mannaert revealed that the reason from Brugge's point of view, that the move collapsed was down to Everton. "There are two facets to such a transfer. The first part concerns the administrative work: that was fine. The second point is an international transfer certificate and it went wrong. "Fifa took seven days, but eventually there is no green light. We could have appealed to the sports tribunal in Lausanne, but we had little chance of success. Furthermore, we would again have had a long period of uncertainty. "Now all parties know where they stand." Mannaert dismissed claims that a deal for Vadis in January was already in place. "There are no agreements or promises made about," said Mannaert. "I can imagine that they will continue to monitor Vadis, but there are no guarantees. If Everton want Vadis in January, the negotiations will start from scratch." Mannaert says the player is committed to Brugge again. "We had a meeting and I had a good feeling. I'm sure Vadis will work hard to return to the level of last year. The uncertainty is gone and also the stress for Vadis has disappeared. That period is over and that's not coming back." The player himself insists he is committed again to Brugge. "I am glad that I can again focus on football," he said. "I have had seven days to think, and that is more than enough — in the beginning I was very excited about the transfer to Everton, but now I am very happy to be in Brugge. "I do not fell like Club Brugge has let me down, on the last day in England a lot of transfers happen and so it is hectic — but Club Brugge were very open with me on their communication and it worked well. "Everton were just a little too late." Disclaimer John Sreet 1 Posted 13/09/2012 at 05:45:31 Trying to figure out who is to blame is now irrelevant as far as this deal is concerned, although relevant for future last day deals whenever they come up next. The question is: Where will Vadis go? — as I guess his recommitment to Brugge is paper deep he has to say what he said. There are not a lot of better choices in the Prem than Everton as the stats will show a top 6/7 consistency over the past few years. I doubt the traditional top 4 will want him except as a cheap bench sub. That leaves Newcastle, Tottingham, and Liverpool, and I don't see any of them as potential destinations. Question is: Will we still want him? —as he did not seem high on our list of priorities. I expect we will drop interest in the pursuit of a higher-rated target. Anto Byrne 2 Posted 13/09/2012 at 08:07:56 Need a replacement for the Big Fella, don't we? Tony J Williams 3 Posted 13/09/2012 at 09:02:12 John, he will be Fellaini's replacement, when the big wig gets his "dream/ambitious" move in January. Sam Hoare 4 Posted 13/09/2012 at 09:17:21 Hope we still get him in Jan. Reckon Fella will probably be off but not till next season I reckon. Unless someone offers mega bucks for him in Jan. £30m + Simon Smith 5 Posted 13/09/2012 at 12:03:45 So I have to ask, was their failure to fill out the correct paperwork just a sorry excuse to prevent him from leaving and hang on to him till January in the hope of pushing his price up? Kind of makes you wonder, don't it? Richard Reeves 6 Posted 13/09/2012 at 12:50:29 I think Moyes will have an eye on someone else as he knows they will be aware of the Fellaini situation and will be keen for a bidding war to inflate the price. I think Moyes will still be interested though but I'm guessing he'll have a back up option or even main target so that if the Vadis valuation starts getting silly he can concentrate on another player at a more realistic price. I think we need two of these type of players as it seem's Fellaini is on his way and Gibson will find it difficult to go a whole season without injury. Sam Hoare 7 Posted 13/09/2012 at 16:31:36 Anyone have any idea of how long Gibson is out for? Seen no mention of it anywhere. Could be that p Neville is about to get a long run in the middle of the park! Personally I hope not. Committed as he is his passing is weak and slows down our improving midfield play.I do like fellaini playing behind jelavic and even when playing badly like last week he seems to create chances or space for himself or others. I also think his defensive positioning and distribution is not as strong as gibsons in front of the back 4.Apart from moving fella back or playing Neville, not sure what options we have. Heitinga or junior? Mike Allison 8 Posted 13/09/2012 at 19:06:06 Sign it now, sort it out right now. Why wait? If he's a player we want, feel has a big future, and is interested in playing for us, sort the deal out now so he can play as of Jan 1st. Brian Waring 9 Posted 13/09/2012 at 19:22:51 Agree with you Mike. If Moyes rates the lad, then a deal should be put in place so he comes in Jan. Vijay Nair 10 Posted 14/09/2012 at 01:49:54 Mike, Brian, like you guys I would love for the club to sort this out now and put a deal in place for Jan. Unfortunately it takes two hands to clap, and Brugge aren't exactly chomping at the bit for him to leave. Martin Faulkner 11 Posted 14/09/2012 at 01:56:33 Simon, having read their general managers statements on their website, he attributes the blame to Everton for the lateness of the offer which his club admin then had to alter some of the wording in it which didn't allow enough time to complete.... Seems that if we were persuing this earlier instead of Nzonzi & Essien it wouldn't have been a problem Alan Bond 12 Posted 14/09/2012 at 02:00:05 I feel that we may see Osman and Fellaini playing as the two holding midfielders whilst Gibson is injured (thought to be a month) with Mirallas Pienaar and Naismith operating behind Jelavic. I agree with Simon Smith's theory, especially with the appraisal Odjidja-Ofoe received from Vincent Kompany prior to the deal. I trust Moyes to make the right call with this one. Peter Huddleston 13 Posted 14/09/2012 at 09:27:12 Sam @ 476 PhysioRoom.com states, "no return date". Worryingly, it also says the same for Pienaar James Stewart 14 Posted 14/09/2012 at 11:23:38 Highly doubt we will be back in for him considering he was 3rd choice behind Essien and Nzonzi(god knows why!) Chris de Costa 15 Posted 14/09/2012 at 14:45:27 Alan - Dropping Felli back into Gibbos position seems like the most obvious thing to do, but I think Moyes is more likely to put Neville or Johnny in there. Its a shame Vadis didnt sign on time, it could of been an early opportunity to get a game, although knowing Moyes, he is normally quite cautious when it comes to throwing new signings straight into the mix.
