Season › 2012-13 › News Contract can wait until the summer Michael Kenrick , 28 October, 12comments | Jump to most recent David Moyes is refusing to be rushed into contract talks — and says his future might not be sorted until the end of the season, when his current deal expires. He is determined to devote all his efforts and attention to firing Everton into a European spot — and finishing ahead of bitter rivals Liverpool in the process. So talks might not even start until Moyes sees whether he can drive the club back into Europe. The Scot said: “I will wait and see how things go. I have a great relationship with the chairman so I don't feel any great need to do anything at this present time. I don't want to take away the focus because we are sort of on it at the moment and I don't want anything to distract from that. “We have already spoken about different things last season at different times but I don't think at the moment there is any real need. “I think we both know what we think is going on in our own way. I'm trying to not make it a big issue. Will it become a bigger issue after January time? Maybe so. “But I could go to Bill and we could do something in five minutes or we could decide to leave it until later. It's not something that's going to take the world to do. “I want to see if I can give the supporters European football if that's possible. If I can do that, then we will see how things are.” Moyes also confirmed Everton would love Phil Neville to be handed a new one-year deal after his current contract comes to an end in the summer — with a job on his coaching staff guaranteed after that. Disclaimer Tony McNulty 1 Posted 29/10/2012 at 12:48:51 In not signing his contract, Moyes is trying to put some pressure on the Board to find some money so that he can take us to the next stage. I have a feeling that next year will be a significant one in the history of EFC. We have had all of the ups and downs of his learning curve as a manager. If Moyes goes at the end of the season, we will never realise the benefit of all that has been learned. Bottom line? As has been the case from the start of his tenure: he needs £30-50 million to strengthen the squad. Without it we will continue to be nearly men, or worse, because other teams will have caught us up. We need deeds (i.e. money) not words from the Chairman. Move from jaw jaw to war war and do it soon. Keith Conchie 2 Posted 29/10/2012 at 15:24:21 Moyes has shown this season what we can achieve when we don't lose our best players in the summer and when he can buy early. We are fifth and would be higher if it weren't for poor decisions in some games that cost us points.Kenwright needs to give him some proper funds to bring in some quality cover for our top players. Only then can Moyes take us to challenge at the top. IMWT!!! Paul David 3 Posted 29/10/2012 at 16:39:15 If he wants to stay and a new contract would be easily sorted out then why hasn't he?I think it he is really waiting to see if any clubs with money sack their manager and offer him the job. Christopher Kelly 4 Posted 29/10/2012 at 17:01:44 I agree with it all. He's playing the waiting game to force their hand but I think ultimately Moyes will sign.He wants Man U but from what I've read, Man U want Pep. It's a sad love triangle that will keep Moyes here. Now about that money issue we've been on about for 12 years... Kevin Day 5 Posted 29/10/2012 at 17:05:32 @ tony mcnulty, I've said on here a few times that Moyes is holding out signing a new contract to keep the pressure on the board to give him the players he wants to sign and keep, each time I have been branded a paranoid fool, nice to see someone sharing my thoughts for once. Tony J Williams 6 Posted 29/10/2012 at 17:15:08 "Will it become a bigger issue after January time? Maybe so." - Is this a threat to get some money for the transfer window? Tony McNulty 7 Posted 29/10/2012 at 17:31:26 Kevin,The Paranoid Fools. Sounds like a belated post-modern rock band. I'll happily play lead guitar. Are you on drums (or on speed)?I think Moyes is absolutely on the side of the fans on this one. He has always gone along with the status quo of no dosh. He is now applying Skinner's principles and will only reward (by signing the contract) the Chairman if money is provided. Ten years or so of seeking investment with nil return is a hell of a long time. Meanwhile the Southamptons and others of this world have more purchasing power in the transfer market. Peter Thistle 8 Posted 29/10/2012 at 18:22:22 Stay or go, make yer mind up. Mostly I don't care but do ya have to give Neville another year ? Let him go ffs, he's old n shit. Realise it Moyes. Christopher Kelly 9 Posted 30/10/2012 at 04:48:43 Thankfully Moyes is 100x more important than Pip, Peter...Hopefully that pathetic dive will be the first step towards giving the band to Jags and sliding that fool to the training pitch with the U-18's... or at least to the bench. that will do Paul Andrews 10 Posted 30/10/2012 at 06:11:56 "I don't want anything to distract from that"Every day you don't sign distracts from that. James Stewart 11 Posted 30/10/2012 at 07:29:41 Didn't mind this article until the Neville part! No! For god sake know when to call it a day Brendan McLaughlin 12 Posted 30/10/2012 at 10:01:33 Funny how Moyes dithering over a new contract last time explained our early season poor form. At least he's now learned how to dither & keep putting points on the board this time around.
