Season › 2012-13 › News Jose Semedo raves about Ross Barkley Michael Kenrick , 6 November, 11comments | Jump to most recent Sheffield Wednesday's Portuguese star Jose Semedo is tipping Ross Barkley to become one of the best midfield players in the country after seeing at close hand what an impact the 18-year-old from Everton is making in the Owls midfield. Barkley has lived up his billing as an outstanding prospect, since Everton allowed him to join Wednesday on loan to gain League experience. Impressive displays have also brought him four goals, including three in the last two games. “He's a top player,” says Semedo. “He's going to be one of the best midfield players in England within a few years. “You can see he wants the ball all the time; he wants to play; he wants to be involved in attacking play, and he can run back and defend.” “It makes my job easier: when he gets the ball he wants to go forward if we are attacking, I am resting, waiting to defend afterwards!” Quotes or other material sourced from Sheffield Star Reader Comments (11) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Disclaimer Kevin Day 1 Posted 06/11/2012 at 16:22:02 Sounds like the loan spells are doing the lad a lot of good; we should see him in the first team next season taking over from Leon Osman a bit more. Niall Hussey 2 Posted 06/11/2012 at 18:36:21 Haven't seen any of his goals yet. Any videos floating about? Ian Bennett 3 Posted 06/11/2012 at 18:54:04 Niall - BBC website, Football League Review has them I think. Barry Rathbone 4 Posted 06/11/2012 at 19:13:27 Excellent news. Nick Entwistle 5 Posted 06/11/2012 at 19:50:17 Maybe after a couple of years we can get Jose Baxter back on a free. He seems to be kicking up a storm in L1. Jason Heng 6 Posted 06/11/2012 at 21:29:42 "he can run back and defend” - Moyes must be pleased. Ste Traverse 7 Posted 06/11/2012 at 23:37:47 The cynic within me feels Bill Kenwright will be rubbing his grubby hands at these kind of reports. Philip Quilliam 8 Posted 07/11/2012 at 09:10:44 Ste. Congratulations in seeing the cloud in the middle of the silver lining. Not sure why you would include a put down of BK in this thread. Robbie Muldoon 9 Posted 07/11/2012 at 13:06:59 Please take a look at the Sheff Wed v Ipswich highlights here (it is the Ross Barkley show) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkLM53q9Hxk Mike Powell 10 Posted 07/11/2012 at 13:25:49 I've watched him a few times for Sheff Wed. He does some great things and then makes stupid mistakes by giving the ball away in dangerous areas which you cannot afford to do in the Prem. But yes, he is improving... but those silly errors would be costly in the Prem. Ken Crowther 11 Posted 07/11/2012 at 17:20:43 Mike #487.That, of course, is why he's out on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. It's not so long ago ago since some on here were bemoaning the fact that "he wasn't being given a chance" by the coaching staff at Everton. What we (they) need to remember is that he won't come back the finished article, simply, as you say, an improvement on the excellent young player who left Goodison.
