Season › 2012-13 › News Coleman earns his international stripes Lyndon Lloyd , 15 November, 6comments | Jump to most recent Seamus Coleman has played his way into regular contention for the Republic of Ireland, with manager Giovanni Trapattoni acknowledging the progress he has made for club and country. The Ireland boss, under pressure following a dismal showing at Euro2012 and a faltering Worls Cup 2014 qualifying campaign, alluded in an interview yesterday that he might have benefited from including the Everton man in his squad for the tournament in Poland-Ukraine but regarded Coleman as a little too green at the time. "We deserved to qualify for the Euros and the team was very well in every position," the Italian said. "I had a heavy job with Paul McShane and had to disappoint Kevin Foley. "Coleman was not ready for this group but we followed him and he has played in forward positions for his club and also as a defender. "Now he is good for us and we have trust in him. He has confirmed his personality, quality, strength and attitude and plays offensive football without fear and that was important. He plays every game with his club and in every game he grows.' Coleman was named man of the match for Ireland in their disappointing 1-0 friendly defeat to Greece last night. Vijay Nair 2 Posted 15/11/2012 at 22:30:52 + 1 RayGood job Seamus! Ciaran Duff 3 Posted 15/11/2012 at 22:31:26 He's still a work in progress (defensively) but it's great to see him continuing to develop and doing well for us and ROI after various ups and downs. Congrats to him and Moyes for patience and perseverance. Now wake up Trap and sort out the rest of the team starting with Gibson. Christopher Kelly 4 Posted 15/11/2012 at 22:47:21 Speaking of Gibson, is he playing on Saturday? or did he stub his big toe? Anto Byrne 5 Posted 16/11/2012 at 03:18:33 He needs a couple of goals... he gets forward and into the box but I would like to see him having a few pops at goal and burying them in the back of the net. Baines can do it and that makes Everton a very potent team going forward as we have a number of players capable of scoring. Seamus two, Reading nil. John Crawley 6 Posted 17/11/2012 at 09:09:44 Good comments from an experienced manager. I agree with him that he is growing with every game. His defensive side still needs working on but I think he is improving and more importantly he seems like a player who really wants to work hard on improving. It will be interesting to see how much he can develop in the next year or two. Now if Moyes could just give Duffy a bit of a chance as well.
