Pienaar looks to go one better against City

Steven Pienaar was keen to accentuate the positives of the Blues' 1-1 draw with Arsenal and says that the team will look to build on that performance at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

The South African atoned for a noticeable dip in his own form recently with a much-improved display and with a bit more composure in front of goal might have scored a winner.

“If you look at the last two games, [our play] was much better,” the South African told evertonfc.com.

“Against Reading we just gave it away and it was unprofessional the way we went about things, and Saturday was one of those games when we were not switched on at the end.

But he intimated that the team will be looking to go one better than Wednesday's draw when they go head-to-head to with Manchester City tomorrow.

“That's the best thing about football - the games come quickly and you can always set it straight," Pienaar said.

"We're fortunate we're in a job when if you make a mistake you can make up for it the next game and now we'll look to go one better at City.”

He was quick to praise the support from the Goodison fans, too:

“When you concede so early it's easy for your heads to go but to be honest the support was fantastic even though that happened.”

"The fans kept us going and there were 89 minutes left so we knew we were still in the game.

"We gave it everything, but unfortunately it wasn't enough, although it was a good point against a really good team.

"I think we were on the front foot and we were really going for it. We didn't sit back and we created some really good chances.” Phil Jagielka made special mention of Darron Gibson's return to the Everton side against Arsenal, saying that the Irishman's range of abilities makes him the "complete midfielder."

Great to see Pienaar back at the heart of our play against Arsenal, love to see him link up with Oviedo against City the way he normally does with Baines.

Signs he's getting back to the level we know against Arsenal on Wednesday but in truth he's stunk the yard out for weeks. However, as the saying goes: form is temporary – class is permanent.

Not sure if you have noticed but he seems to have lost form a bit since that haircut.

I live for "news" like this. "Yeah, we're up for this one!"
(Usually spouted by Neville or Osman)

Thank God you you weren't going there to LOSE!

Slow week I presume...
