Season › 2012-13 › News Moyes rejects "sell-to-buy" in January Michael Kenrick , 14 December, 19comments | Jump to most recent David Moyes insists he will not sell players in order to fund the transfer business he wants to do in January. Losing forward Kevin Mirallas and defender Tony Hibbert to injury for "a few weeks", and the club's current hold on fourth place, has not changed the Scot's view about the forthcoming window. Everton have habitually sold in order to buy, but Moyes stressed that would not be the case in January, despite speculation suggesting he was willing to offload defender John Heitinga in order to raise money to buy Paris St Germain striker Kevin Gameiro, Toulouse youngster Wissam Ben Yedder and bring back Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott on loan. "I'd like to (strengthen), but we know I've got a very small amount I could do anything with and I don't think it will probably be enough to make a difference in what we would want to bring in," he said. "We will probably look and see if there is anything out there but I don't think the situation with Mirallas and Hibbo would change that. "We wouldn't be letting anyone go, but we would like to add to it if we can, but we can only do that if the players were available and it was the right deal for us." Trevor Powell 2 Posted 14/12/2012 at 17:13:23 Just make sure that we get the money upfront for John Heitinga as the last "deal" with a Turkish club was a farce! Kunal Desai 3 Posted 14/12/2012 at 17:36:19 I'm loosing my patience with Anichebe and Heitinga is a waste. Get rid!! Peter Warren 4 Posted 14/12/2012 at 18:19:02 We have four games before January and then a load of games after. Moyes's statement makes sense, keep people motivated, keep our players fees high, stops clubs were after putting prices up and keeps pressure on the Board. I would be surprised if one of our more valuable players did not leave in January. Paul Ellam 5 Posted 14/12/2012 at 17:16:14 Poor Heitinga has had a bit of a fall from grace hasn't he??I would rather we shipped out Anichebe if anybody Kevin Day 6 Posted 14/12/2012 at 18:48:12 Heitinga is a waste Kunal in the sense of not being played, he was our player of the season last year over Baines, he's too good to be just a bit part player, central defence is an area where we aren't really short. If we can sell him and Vic then the money could defo be put to better use. Edward Simpson 7 Posted 15/12/2012 at 00:52:25 Yeh, Heitinga is getting a lot of stick. The sort of player we need to keep in my opinion, but Anichebe needs to go, far too injury prone and with what money we get for him it could go towards another striker. Vijay Badhan 8 Posted 15/12/2012 at 03:16:19 Victor Anichebe IMO has never been, and never will be good enough for Everton. The guy is 24 years old and has 14 goals in 110 appearance which speaks for itself, Get rid of the clown — he has cost us enough time and money. Gavin Ramejkis 9 Posted 15/12/2012 at 06:55:27 Heitinga isn't a bad player overnight, simply a player still worth a few quid in a position we have cover for, the buy to survive business model created by our shite board hasn't suddenly disappeared and the end of year finances must be due to be publicised very soon. Anichebe is just gash and isn't going to get any better, at 24 he's had enough time and chances. Mark Tanton 10 Posted 15/12/2012 at 07:39:48 This January is a real test for the Everton board. Here we are, sitting in forth going into Christmas, and looking forward to the second half of the season. In previous years we have been reactive, desperately trying to arrest a disasterous season by bringing in anyone cheap enough. Will Kenwright find the money (even just a little)? Can we afford the wages? Does Moyes have cheap reinforcements in mind already? This a huge 'push on or die' moment for the club, and the last time that happened we failed to capitalise after Champions' League qualification. We're standing at the crossroads here, I hope we go in the right direction. Ian Bennett 11 Posted 15/12/2012 at 08:08:45 The French striker hoarau is a good possibility. Linked before, out of contract in the summer, small fee involved, is not playing regularly. Drew O'Neall 12 Posted 15/12/2012 at 14:50:09 I'd like to see Heitinga shipped out. He's too good to sit on the bench but not good enough to displace Distin and probably not a centre back suited to the Premier League in truth as he has no pace and isn't big and strong.Don't forget we've got Distin's contract running down in the background so Moyes has to play that a bit cute as well. We have a better bargaining position with Distin while we have Heitinga on the books so the order of events should be Distin Contract > Player in on the Cheap > Heitinga Out to balance the books. Andy Meighan 13 Posted 15/12/2012 at 20:59:49 Heitinga is still a quality player and don't forget was our player of the season last season. It would be folly to get shot. Distin is getting on now but the last few games he has looked like the Distin of old. I do think this an area that needs strenghtening because Moyes doesn't seem to trust Duffy — god knows why, because the lad looks a cracker to me... Maybe that's why the Lescott rumours could have some credence, but still I wouldn't like to see Heitinga go. Bjrn-Ivar Pedersen 14 Posted 15/12/2012 at 21:39:37 Anichebe has been a goner for me for many years now, so maybe it's time to cash in....but the teams out there he can go to and make the team stronger, do not have a decent amount of money to pay us.Or we could ship him of to Norwich for a bargain prize as we do with most of our out of favors. I have not been Howard's biggest fan, but he have in spite sloppy work sometimes saved us a point. So after considered many opinions from you guys about him let's replace him with Rene Adler aus Leverkusen, in my opinion the goalie uber alles. If you guys look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpIch4M71EUWon't you say he remind you a little bit about Big Nev? Same reflexes, same awareness to the oncoming opponent, at all same BIG?Let's ship away Anichebe, Howard, Heitinga and Fellaini, then we could sign the best goalie in the world...if he want to come to England thou, and with the rest get that young Belgian we tried to loan back in august, and make the deal with Forren go through. that is the receipt to 4. Bjrn-Ivar Pedersen 15 Posted 15/12/2012 at 22:42:18 Sorry lads...I wish here was a edit button, Rene is no longer with Leverkusen...he is actually playing for HSV....and therefor this opens up a good opportunity, HSV is know in Germany for being the club who ship more players to England than any other club in Germany, remember we got Gravesen from them...and they are a club who do not overprice their players....so I actually think Rene is in our reach...if HE want to come. Noel Early 16 Posted 16/12/2012 at 01:23:57 I want Jack Butland. I can live with a youngster making the odd mistake he will be quality in years to come. Howard, as I've already stated for the last 4 years, is a joke and I think Moyes is finally thinking the same. David Stewart 17 Posted 16/12/2012 at 14:20:06 Well, if he doesn't sell anyone then I'm afraid he won't be doing the transfer business he wants to do in January, unless that business is a couple of half-arsed loans or some dodgy journeyman. We all know there's no money at this club and I'm afraid Mr Moyes will be let down again by the pathetic attempts of the people who run this club. I expect at least Arsenal and Spurs to improve their squads; we I'm afraid will be hoping for no more injuries or suspensions to an already undersized squad. Could someone please inform the board that Mr Moyes's main occupation is football manager and not fucking magician? I'm afraid that the top-hat will be running out of rabbits very soon. Thomas Windsor 18 Posted 17/12/2012 at 08:09:52 I couldn't see anybody being interested in Victor — only Championship teams... so a very low fee. Unless Kenwright comes up with a few bob, this is our squad for the season. Kieran Fitzgerald 19 Posted 17/12/2012 at 11:30:43 For all our success in recent transfer windows we still seem short on quality. I think Moyes can see the what we can see in terms of being in with a chance of a CL place. This may be the best chance he will get at Everton to qualify for the CL in the near future, given how strong our rivals are, and the money they have to spend. Whether he is willing to admit it or not, Moyes will need to bring players in during the January window to keep the season going. That will mean wheeling and dealing. Despite our improvement this season, we are not gone beyond that.
