David Moyes has tight transfer budget

, 1 January, 19comments  |  Jump to most recent
It seems journalists never tire of finding different ways to have David Moyes say basically the same thing when it comes to the January transfer window: no big signings, coz there's very little money... perhaps enough for some loan deals.

“People know our situation here. There's no point me asking for something that we have not got so I wouldn't do it,” said Moyes.

“If you don't have it, that's it. We don't have it. The chief executive has come out and said there is a very small amount available and that is what I am saying. Maybe we can do a couple of loans.”

I just hope we can get quality cover in for midfield whether it be on loan or not. I have a terrible feeling we won't be seeing much more of Gibson this season, never mind out for another month.

Surely the Ofoe deal will be our first piece of business in January. Everything had been agreed it was just a couple of hours late for the deadline.

That was then though Andy, this is now.

Club Brugge may have changed their minds, the player may have changed his, another club may have come in and made their interest known, we may want different terms now he is presumably closer to running down his contract.

Doubt we can just assume that everything is just waiting to be rubber-stamped.

It will be frustrating, though nothing new to see Spurs and Liverpool spend a small fortune and Swansea, Stoke and Reading do more business than us. Hull City will spend more than us this window when they buy their Sunderland loanee for £1.5m on top of a lay out of several million quid already in the summer.

Has Billy bullshit had anything tangible to offer around transfer money in parts 1,2,3 or 4 of his interview on the OS or just more gushing self indulgence for the happy clappers to swallow?

Mark @470, it is frustrating in the extreme when you see a club like Spurs pulling away from us simply by opening the cheque book. With the RS, they will always have the capability to just spend their way out of a tight corner. It doesn't matter what we do, they will always have cash. They can still produce 12m quid for Sturridge and that is them being conservative. It doesn't matter what Moyes does, or how much greater our squad is than the sum of it's parts. Spurs and Liverpool can just splash the cash.

We talk about having to sell Baines or Felliani just to have a pot of cash. Imagine telling Spurs fans they would have to consider selling Bale, or telling Liverpool fans they would have to sell rat face just to have a decent transfer kitty. They would laugh at you.

Anyway, that's my whinge over with. I say sell Hetinga as early as possible and then see what we have to play with cash wise. For me, I would like to see cover for Gibson and someone who will score goals. If we can't get both then just someone with goals in them.

You can wheel and deal as much as you like but the fact is that usually the best players cost cash and if you have lots of cash you invariably end up having good players and therefore winning things.

Moyes has done very well at building good teams with no cash but with at least 6 or 7 other teams in the league now able to spend £15m at least per transfer window while we scratch around for loans then its going to be hard to keep up.

However our team at present is as strong as its ever been and if Moyes can bring in 3 or so new faces with talent then who knows...every now and then someone crashes the party so why not us.

That auld chestnut 'modest transfer budget". Absolutely sickening. How can teams that have only been in the league 5 minutes outspend an established top flight institution like ours? We badly need players but doesn't look like we're going to get anyone in. I fucking hate this board and seeing the cabbage patch dolls crying kite on telly during the Chelsea game made me retch. Let's just hope there's a good result at Newcastle for me to enjoy the rest of my holiday.

We need to really hurry up and get cover for Gibson, we would look really good when that happens.

Mirallas will be like a new signing when he comes back, I think we've missed him.

I noticed Wigan have just made their first loan signing from Man. Utd. Just wish we could get business done that quick. I always presume deals are being made in December ready to conclude in January. I understand that when you are making a permanent deal how complicated it can be but we are only going to do loan signings and that should be a lot less complex.

Please Moyes look at Knockeart from Leicester. This lad 21 years old and he is better than Barkley. The Wenger boy has been interested so would need to be quick. Its not just the goals you see its his overall technical ability.

We need investment. The glass ceiling looks ominously closer and closer. Look how thin our squad is when just a few injuries hit. If we are serious about breaking into the top 4 then 15m-20m needs to be found for moyes to do business. If we not them we need to get real and start dealing with the debt. No point having top 4 players like Baines and Fellaini if we harbour no ambition to bring in players of similar quality.

I agree James. We are running on fumes right now and need to fill up the tank. I hate to be negative when we are doing ok right now but the reality is the January window could see major moves for all above us. The RS will build on their squad and probably leap frog us because they will invest. I don't just blame BK for this, it is the responsibility of the board who, if researched, are capable of accessing funds from their other business ventures. I fear this will be the last season, without new owners, that a top 4 spot could happen.

My question is who would you like to see Everton pursue in January, taking into consideration we have a tight transfer budget?

Everton need loan signings now. Wait too long, 7th will be best position come the end of the season. With another "maybe, next season' to look forward too.

Andy #540 we've been on fumes for the majority of BK's ownership and only ever bought after selling for years. Whilst he and his board remain its the way it will always be.

Not really sure why anyone is surprised that we wont have much cash come January – we're skint and have been skint for a very long time, it has been the same with every transfer window for a few years now. Our current income simply does not cover all our expenses so without selling players, the only way to get cash in the short term for transfers is new debt – which none of us (hopefully) actually promotes.

To buy we need to sell – same as most clubs. In the last 2 transfer windows we got good money for Rodwell and finally got shot of Bily – Moyes then reinvested the funds well. We need to do the same again this Jan and Johnny is the obvious high value/under used player that should be shipped out. Every month of him sitting on our bench sees his value go down, nevermind the £50k a week he is supposedly on. If we can sell him for anything over £5M then Moyes will have cash to bring in a new face or two.

I hope for a another January miracle like last January ...

Vadis will be a permanent signing, Hetinga and Hitz being moved on. 2 more loans in as well. Interesting.

If we were going to sign Vadis, it would have happened by now.
