Season › 2012-13 › News Everton: A Decent Club In An Indecent League Michael Kenrick , 13 January, 7comments | Jump to most recent Everton’s comparison to the halcyon days of the labour movement is tellingly apt because, whilst other clubs are frantically dismantling their connections to the past, Everton make it a matter of honour to retain their sense of identity and continue to acknowledge those that have gone before. Everton, for instance, continue to emerge from the tunnel on home matchdays to the theme tune of Z-Cars. » Read the full article at Dispatches from a Football Sofa Reader Comments (7) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Patrick Murphy 3 Posted 14/01/2013 at 06:33:50 Just heard that Spurs, Arsenal, Man Utd and LFC are in or have been in 'secret' talks about stopping the Juggernauts of Chelsea and Man City by banding together to ensure fair play. Pity they didn't do this at the inception of the PL, these four clubs along with the FA allowed a Wild West environment to evolve, so they can hardly complain when a faster gun comes to town and starts shooting them. How many of them four clubs sympathized with Everton's financial plight or Man City's demise during the 90s? I rather think they danced with joy as the way was left clear for them to dominate the English Game. With the exception of perhaps Spurs these clubs have no moral compass and reflect all that is bad about the modern game, they want to win but they really don't care about how they win. IMHO these four clubs are as much to blame for the current financial situation of English Football as the New Kids on the Block of Chelsea and Man City. Richard Jones 4 Posted 14/01/2013 at 09:05:03 When you consider it wall Bill who attempted to put us in a super market car park in Kirkby purely to gain £54 million on the value of his share,s I think this guy needs to understand the politics at Everton a little better. Mike Powell 5 Posted 14/01/2013 at 12:23:20 Spot on, Patrick — Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs, Arsenal and even Blackburn were buying players for the fun off it. Now they are getting left behind by Man City and Chelsea they don't like it. Colin Fitzpatrick 6 Posted 14/01/2013 at 23:56:34 As Richard points, whilst the historic "value" of the club, and indeed the stadium, is of value to decent Evertonians, and if you had any commercial acumen you'd realise that this could be developed into Everton's USP, a tangible asset if there ever was one, but not in the mind of a mere accountant; it isn't a matter of honour for the directors led by Bill Kenwright who were more than happy to relocate to a supermarket car park whilst misleading the fans over the supposed £52m funding that didn't exist whilst questioning the structural integrity of Goodison, in that it was about to fail a safety certificate. The culture of the modern Everton is the one that comes from the top; think of all those boys pen, holes in shoes and socks soaked in piss, riding along resplendent on uncle Cyril's handlebars stories, think about them then take a look at the family home that's up for sale in that Liverpool ghetto Mossley Hill, http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-25065624.html and you'll understand three things, one, those stories are only the tip of the iceberg, two, you'll understand where the culture of the Goodison fantasy world originates from and thirdly you begin to appreciate why so many people are just rightly pissed off with being treated like imbeciles; some of course welcome it, it's the way of the world; Mars Bar anyone? Robby Daniels 7 Posted 15/01/2013 at 09:13:02 Working class hero... bollocks! It's not a working class house now and never was. Holes in his shoes... don't make me laugh.I drive past that house everyday, it's up for over half a million, and even 60 years ago was something the average man could only dream about. You know, two up and two down terrace in Wavertree etc. The man's the biggest lying fraud on the planet. Boys pen my arse...
