I was curious about how much revenue a live game generates, according to a report I read today, it said that Southampton's failure to install undersoil heating may cost the club circa £485k, I didn't know if this meant for each club or for both of them.

Having dug a little deeper I came across the following information. I hadn't quite realised that the figures per season were so high.

Looking at those figures (thanks Patrick) it shows how important attracting the cameras can be (playing well and being at the top of the table?).

2010-11 there is a gap to the team above us in the earnings (Spurs) of about £3.4 million. This also seems to be the biggest single gap between any of the teams.

2011-12 and the gap has widened to about £5.4 million between us and Newcastle (the Barcodes increased their revenue by about £7 million from 2010-11, Spurs had gone up by £4 million, and ours dropped by about £700k).

Hopefully our performance throughout 2012 will enable us to break the £50 million 'barrier' and closed the gap on the 'elite' group.

On the thread about the increased attendances someone pointed out how little that positive news contributed by way of extra cash (though more fans present equals less empty spaces and more voices to 'inspire' the team). This, however, shows that there are real bonuses to being attractive to the media.

Interesting one for ESPN to pick (the RS playing on Sunday?). Maybe they have some UFC stuff coming up that night and wanted to preview it with the Fellaini v Shawcross rematch.

Patrick, does that mean the game on Monday night could be called off? I hope they make an early decision, the weather looks pants for the next few days.

I thought a prerequisite of being in the Premier League or Championship was under-soil heating or some form of protection against bad weather? Hopefully someone can answer that for me.

Weather report from Brighton — it's grim down south! I have tickets for Monday but I'm not counting my chickens about the game being on. We don't deal with proper weather down here very well.

Martin there were rumours about possible call-off but I would think it is unlikely as the weather temperature wise should improve as the week-end progresses. Under-soil is supposed to be part of the regulations but Southampton have some other form (sounded antiquated but I can't remember exactly what it was — I think it was a Blanket and an Alex Ferguson Hair-dryer!) which was adequate if not ideal.

Almost a million extra quid to be spent on the black hole that is "other costs".

Patrick #682, cheers buddy. An old army mate of mine lives that way and works for Sky; he texted me to say they've already got a back-up plan (wrestling I think) just in case. He seemed to think its 60/40 to go ahead.

He also reckons the ground may only be half-full because of Nigel Adkins's sacking — the local radio was having to use the delay button on the phone-in all day!
