Osman keeps place for Brazil friendly

Leon Osman has been called up to the England squad for a second time as reward for his form for Everton and his impressive international debut against Sweden last November. Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines are also included.

All three have been selected by Roy Hodgson for the upcoming friendly against Brazil.

I'll be honest, I'm a fan of Ossie, but he's been below average for us of late.

He's at his normal level which is below average.

Good for Ossie. Some recent games not his best but his overall form this season has been good.

Another round of useless international matches that for sure will interrupt Everton plans for their next game. Which usually does. After the last international matches, Everton lost to Reading 1:2. And Reading had few if none players away on international duty, while Everton had at least 7. And ran out of steam in the second half and conceded 2 goals.

Below average is an understatement.

Amen Steavey. Pointless friendlies, just a way of Wembley getting some more money back for its extortionate cost

I wonder what he'll do if he gets in an open goal?

What's the point, he won't be going to the World Cup. It's another Nugent and Kevin Davies.
Steve (100) good point.

Thats three of our over used, tired players given extra game time in which one or two may well pick up injuries.

After the transfer window debacle its sods law !!

Well, I'm an Everton fan AND an England fan, so I'm pleased. COYW!

I'm with you Kev. It adds something when a Blue is playing. If Cole gets the nod over Baines it'll be a sickener.

For God's sake - everyone goes on about players getting tired. How can you be tired playing footy, pulling girls and getting paid a fortune? The only worry to me is them collecting an injury (all that bed hopping can get dangerous).

I don't complain when I'm talking non stop about footy - and neither should they for playing 2 games a week.

Bit harsh on Ossie, been his best season for us, great pass for Baines' first goal, shown great feet around the box and also good link up play at times. Having said that would have loved him to knock in that sitter at WBA had him in a double as anytime goal scorer with Everton win. Hope he gets some game time against Brazil, only time I really am interested in England is when there are a few Blues involved.

@Jim (659) - Best be prepared for a sickener, then. There's no likelihood of Baines starting ahead of Cashley - Woy is already going on about how important it is that the crowd acknowledge Cole's 100th cap.

Some manager, that Woy Hodgson... really knows his onions. Just look at the amazing job he did at Anfield. What a masterstroke – picking a lame duck like Osman as well.

Them Kopites can see a dud a mile off and chased Woy out of town within months. Now here he is selecting, Everton's worst midfielder in living memory for England. WTF's happening with football???

I do have a concern about injuries etc, but does anyone think that the experience our lads get from playing against Brazil's best might have a positive on them? Personally I would have thought so.

When Ossie was originally selected he was playing better than we've seen him. In the last few games he's looked slow and hesitant, in fact pretty ordinary really. Not sure he's up to required standard for the England team.

Like a good number of our players, he's been looking tired. I thought we showed some improvement against West Brom. Just hope the management and coaching staff can fire them all up again. 14 PL games to go and plenty of points there for the taking.

Tony Marsh:
'Everton's worst midfielder in living memory for England. WTF's happening with football???'

One of the things happening to football Tony is that there are too many people prone to making ridiculous statements which they then repeat ad nauseum. It tends to mean that the people making them end up having little or no credibility and aren't taken seriously by the vast majority of other people anymore as a result.

Tony Marsh: Some sense at last about the hideously overrated Osman, thank you.

Osman isn't good enough to be in the current squad, let alone the team. The fact that he starts every week is staggering. he's an utter liability. His selection for England speaks ill of (the almost equally overrated and mediocre) Hodgson.

We will win more games and play better football without Osman.

Chris Leyland: repeating good sense does not undermine anyone's credibility. And disagreeing with you doesn't make a comment ridiculous either.

It's a game of opinions - though it baffles me how many apparently sane Evertonians rate our midfield mediocrity.

Paul, even if you don't rate Osman, to say he is everton's worst ever midfielder is , as Chris pointed out, ridiculous. It's to be expected though given the source.

Hodgson has stated that he now sees Baines and Cole as equal. It sounds like it's a bit of a toss up then? Of course, on TW we know who's the best.

I rate Ossie and I hope he gets a game. As Laurie @ 844 says, it can only benefit our players to play for their country.

Jags is going to have his work cut out handling Neymar & Co, that's for sure. I just hope he doesn't get shunted to RB!

Come on England!
