Season › 2012-13 › News Barnsley would welcome Stones loan Lyndon Lloyd , 7 February, 25comments | Jump to most recent Barnsley could approach Everton about taking new signing John Stones on loan for part of the remainder of the season. The Tykes' boss, David Flitcroft, admitted it was a wrench to let go of a player he regards as the best young fullback in the country and he may explore the possibility of loaning the 18 year-old back. Everton signed Stones on transfer deadline day for a fee that could eventually rise to £3m, a move that David Moyes admits is one "for the future." That could leave the door open for the England U19s defender to return to his boyhood club to complete what Flitcroft called "some unfinished business" at the Championship side. "John was in today saying goodbye to the lads and it would be something we'd love to explore," Flitcroft is quoted by BBC Sport. "It wasn't part of the deal at the time that he'd come back here. I think David Moyes would like to assess him and see where he's at. "I'd say there's a chance, not a good chance," Flitcroft told BBC Radio Sheffield. "Remember, Everton paid good money for him." Disclaimer Colin Glassar 1 Posted 07/02/2013 at 22:14:53 He may as well go back or he'll end up just like Barkley, Duffy, Vellios, Baxter etc.... Ian Bennett 2 Posted 07/02/2013 at 22:17:10 I'd prefer Duffy went out on loan, he needs the real game time. James Morgan 3 Posted 07/02/2013 at 22:20:05 Keep him with us, how else will he learn how to point and 'float' passes in to the box a la Phil Neville? Jay Harris 4 Posted 07/02/2013 at 22:30:25 I get the feeling this transfer was an attempted sop to Moyes after failing to land anyone else. Brendan McLaughlin 5 Posted 07/02/2013 at 22:35:30 Jay #468Don't think Moyes does sops Patrick Murphy 6 Posted 07/02/2013 at 22:47:23 If the lad is as good as some think he is, get him in our team or at least have as an option on the bench. We paid good money for him, why should we loan him out to Barnsley? Tom Dodds 7 Posted 07/02/2013 at 23:03:12 P Murphy: "Get him on our team"..?? In 2020. Surely? Steavey Buckley 8 Posted 07/02/2013 at 23:21:46 According the Barnsley manager, Stones is the best right back in the country. He should tell that to Moyes, who did not even include him on the bench against Aston Villa, while Jags had a diificult game at right back and Heitinga had a nightmare in Jags accustomed position. If Moyes does not loan him back to Barnsley, is Stones destined for the academy? And what a waste that would be. Him going from a proper club called Barnsley to a kick about in the academy. Steve Jones 9 Posted 07/02/2013 at 23:30:48 He's pushed Tyias Browning down the right back list so why not send him out on loan instead ? After all Tyias was an unused first team sub and they are exactly the same age. Then Stones can train with the firsts and maybe get a run out. Win win . Brendan McLaughlin 10 Posted 07/02/2013 at 23:33:23 Steavey #478"According to the Barnsley manager".....no further comment needed. Steve Carter 11 Posted 08/02/2013 at 01:42:42 I would like to see John on the bench and brought on with 5-10 to go. Yes, there's a gulf between the PL and the Championship, but there's wraps on him and with seasoned pros around him not much can go wrong...can it? Paul Momber 12 Posted 08/02/2013 at 03:10:26 Yeah right... let him learn from Johnny. Sam Hoare 13 Posted 08/02/2013 at 03:10:03 Have a look at him and then either put him in the squad or send him back. He'll learn more getting first team in the championship than in our reserve team. Also good to remember that we actually only paid 500k for him. The rest is dependent on his progress. Paul Ward 14 Posted 08/02/2013 at 03:44:45 How ever good Stones is, he will end up as (Colin Glassar 464) said. One day one of these good young players will get a chance, maybe when one of our over thirty fives drops dead on the pitch. There is no sign Neville, Distin or the useless Howard are going to be replaced any time soon. Moyes is too scared to give youth a chance. Anto Byrne 15 Posted 08/02/2013 at 04:58:11 He should have gone to Wigan if he wants a sniff of first team football. He can join the queue of hopefuls behind Barkley, Duffy et al. One for the the future... don't make me laugh. I could be wrong but tell me how many kids have come through in the last 10 years. Rodwell... Big Vic and maybe one or two others but I'm scratching my head to think whom? Oh yeah, Rooney, of course. Harold Matthews 16 Posted 08/02/2013 at 06:50:34 He might get a game next season when the new manager takes over. Paul Andrews 17 Posted 08/02/2013 at 06:56:35 We should at least get him on the bench, give him 20 minutes, see what he has got. If you're good enough, you're old enough James Stewart 18 Posted 08/02/2013 at 07:13:25 So that would make our january dealings minus 1. This with already having the thinnest squad in the league. Disgrace. Nick Entwistle 19 Posted 08/02/2013 at 09:21:01 Anto,he has been bought, rather than brought through. And cost a considerable more sum than Moyes' punts on Vellios etc.The way people go on about players Moyes has brought through you'd think half the players lining up across the country on Saturdays... Sundays... Mondays are with their boyhood club. Sam Hoare 20 Posted 08/02/2013 at 09:33:43 The fact is that Moyes likes to keep a fairly stable squad which doesn't mean alot of openings however. Of our starting 16 or so players, 4(ish) are homegrown in Hibbert, Osman, Big Vic and Coleman (he's the ish) with Duffy, Vellios, Mcaleny, Gueye and Barkley all getting some game time too over the last seasons I really don't see what all the moaning is about. Tony Dove 21 Posted 08/02/2013 at 10:53:09 I think we have been on a bit of a downward spiral for the past couple of months. This is due to the loss of form of some players,a few injuries, and some poor selections by Moyes. The attacking style of early season has long gone. The other clubs competing for fourth are about to be distracted by Europe so it is basically now or never. Therefore anything that can give us a shot in the arm is welcome.Stones may just help to get us rolling! Of course we all know he wont be given the opportunity. Brian Waring 22 Posted 08/02/2013 at 11:13:24 Sam (#488) "also good to remember we actually only paid 500k for him. The rest is dependent on his progress" Probalby won't ever get above 500k then Sam. Steve Edwards 23 Posted 08/02/2013 at 15:12:15 Look at at it this way, if we had played him last week against Villa and he had a stinker. Say he was responsible for us conceding three goals, well, he'd have been no worst than Heitinga. Enough said. Moyes should have been fined by the club for picking Heitinga in central defence against a strong, fast centre forward. I wouldn't have done it and neither would anyone with more than half a brain. Thanks Mr.Moyes you were totally responsible for the lost of two points even before a ball was kicked. Colin Glassar 24 Posted 08/02/2013 at 16:12:15 Steve Edwards, Moyes wanted to play safe against the mighty Villa. Andy Meighan 25 Posted 08/02/2013 at 20:52:28 I'm with Patrick (#471) on this. We paid £3 mil for him. Big money for us. So get him in and around the first team. If you're good enough you're old enough. Or hasn't Moyes heard that old adage? Er... NO!
