Moyes thinks big clubs need help with fixtures

, Daily Star , 10 February, 32comments  |  Jump to most recent
David Moyes says Premier League chiefs should bend over backwards by rearranging fixtures to help big clubs fly the flag in the Champions League.

He said: “You would think the Premier League would try to help the teams in these competitions because it's good for the league.

“I'd be supportive of any of the teams who need their games to be played at the right time.”

Why does Moyes care about CL Clubs, Oh yeah, maybe he thinks he will be at one next season.

Why should the Premier League help them when they have the likes of Moyes waving the white flag in big games before a ball is kicked.

With his inflated wages should be concentrating on us achieving something instead of worrying about Utds midweek game.

David they do get the help already, they take advantage of their CL place, by earning more money from being on TV every weekend and therefore having a bigger squad than little old non-CL us. If we give them any more help we might as well just pack it all in.

Would he be happy if it was postponed yesterday and re arranged the Wednesday before cup final day if we got there?

Another favour off him for Fergusson.Maybe he's daft enough to think he will be offered Fergies job.

Big clubs already hold sway with advantages over smaller clubs. They have a much bigger turnover so can afford to have a larger squad of quality players. No matter if the bigger clubs have a CL match the following 3 or 4 days, they can still field a strong enough team for an EPL match.

Moyes isn't good enough in this league to be affected by this so it's a waste of breath him demanding it unless he's delusional enough to think he will be snapped up by a CL team, yesterday's dross is more to form than other games. Also as mentioned above, these teams have the dosh to have a big and good enough squad to cope with the games.

David Moyes speaking at post-match press conference about tiredness reported in David Prentice's column in the Echo.

'I’ve always said maybe it’s because the numbers that

we’ve got only allow us to have maybe a good half season, not a full one, because we’re asking a small number of players to do that for a full season. I hope I’m wrong'.

I hope you're wrong as well Mr Moyes, supporters don't pay good money to watch half-a-season, and Everton FC don't pay you to produce a team that can only play for half the games they participate in.

I do have a suggestion though, why not play a team full of 2nd stringers at the sky4 ,City and Spurs, that would take away 6 fixtures and reduce the burn-out with the first team squad playing a maximum of 32 PL games. I wonder if these highly paid athletes can manage that? It would hardly make an impact on our points tally.

What a surprise!

I wonder if he writes it down or records what fergie tells him to do on his phone so he doesn't forget amidst the back slapping.

Servile with the brains of a root vegetable - roll on the announcement.

No need to bother changing the dates of the fixtures - all that needs to be done is ensure that the top clubs play Everton immediately before a European tie. We roll over like we normally do - especially at their grounds - and its the same as having a day off.

I doubt you would find many people involved in the game that had a different opinion.

Basically its saying that the P.L should take into consideration the fact one, or some, of their members may have a European game in midweek and to schedule the weekend game accordingly.

Any club in question will have spent the whole of the previous season qualifying and P.L also likes to make a big deal of any clubs progressing far in the competition. Good for their kudos and all that. I don’t care about that, but they do play on it if there is a heavy P.L presence in the latter stages. Perhaps some of the managers feel that it’s a bit of a one way street?

England international games used to be played on the Weds after games on the weekend. People moaned about the change to have a free week so the manager could get more time with the players and they were fresher etc. But I would say it’s widely acknowledged the old system was ridiculous.

I’m not saying that should happen with champions league clubs. But, if you are in the P.L and you have a tough champion’s league fixture on the Weds, is it too much to ask your league, your league, to give you a Saturday game so you have the maximum time to prepare??

No.

United played Sunday. Todays Monday. One day of proper preparation and the game on Wednesday? Bit much? If it was us there would be hundreds of us on here going ape shit.

Nothing wrong with what Moyes has said here. Ask all the managers and you would most likely get the same reply. No doubt the reactionary bullshit will follow however.

No Shane, you can't see it with neutral/sane eyes, you have to go all Waterboy's mother on him....He's the "Debil" don't you know.

"Everton FC don't pay you to produce a team that can only play for half the games they participate in" - No, they also pay the players who shit themselves against better teams and don't turn up. Pienaar, Baines, Fellaini, Mirallas, all of them were gash yesterday, along with the usual suspects.

Here's a tip for the players....when your forward is heading towards goal, pass the ball in front of him, not behind him, so he can have a shot....... yes I'm looking at you Mirallas.

Did Anichebe control a ball all afternoon?

These are disgraceful comments.

The rich clubs moan that the Euro Cup format gives them too little money and they want a league. They get their league and with it untold millions, and they complain that they play too many games.

The Champions League is a scam designed to keep the rich clubs rich. Smash the champions league, bring back the Euro Cup format and spread the wealth more evenly and equitably.

The Rich Clubs have all the cards stacked in their favour. Even the more-than-doubling of the number of named substitutes is a scam to favour the richer clubs with the largest squads. They don't need any help. Davey, I am very disapppointed.

Moyes makes my blood boil. Michael Laudrup — what a quality manager he is... and we have sad man Dithering Dave. Please Man City or Chelsea come and get him!l Like Spurs, I don't think their fans will want him.

I hate looking at the fixture list when we play Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea away. Dave Prentice will tell us Evertonians " be careful what you wish for" while telling the gobshites "what a fab club you have".

Why doesn't he focus his thoughts 100% on the club that pays him a huge sum of money for 10 trophyless years. By my reckoning he has had £30 Million + in salary over that time span and yet he feels the pain of the CL clubs? Tosser.
