Why David Moyes should just admit he's staying at Everton

David Anderson thinks it's time Moyes nailed his colours to the mast. Reading between the lines of his post-match quotes after Everton's win over Stoke, he clearly wants to stay at Goodison Park.

He could use the announcement that he is staying to give their run-in one final push if he made it over the next week or two. That would be smart management. But I would not understand his thinking if he left the issue hanging in the air, causing nothing but uncertainty at Goodison, until the summer.

I think the penny is dropping with all the nonsense Moyes has been spouting over the last few months... "I will see where we finish before signing" ... "I will see what the budget is before signing" .... etc etc.

He was always going to sign. And soon will do.

In the same article, the author says that BK gives every available penny to the Manager and that "It is said he was even prepared to bankroll Leroy Fer's signing in January, despite the problems with the Dutch midfielder's medical, and it was Moyes who urged caution."

And he says, "I know you'll always hear the odd malcontent coming out with such nonsense as they did after the Wigan defeat that Moyes has taken the club as far as he can, but the majority of fans are solidly behind him."

So, given that the board, the players and the supporters all back him, why can't Moyes come out and say he is staying?

Did BK and his PR machine have anything to do with this article or are they just softening us up to say business as usual?

It's started Patrick. Ask Rooney. Ask Gregg.

The preverbial step back/down is going into full swing.

"Always wanted to stay", "best chairman in the world", "gives me every penny", "club is run like a very tight ship", blah, blah, fucking blah.

"Sorry 'bout that, Bill, couldn't get a better offer so let's talk, you giving me another £4m a year? Keep schtum about everything else? No problem, where do I sign?"

"I'll give my bro a call about sorting some loans out from Guatemala – should keep those pesky Blue Union knobs at bay for another year or so..."

Strange how people didn't see this coming 6 months ago when Moyes was on his way out....

Ian # 334, what is on offer is obviously a new contract with the 20% reduction he advocated for everyone. I assume he will, as a man of integrity, practise what he has preached.

Exactly, Andy. I said it when he came out with that quote, and I'll stick to it now. If he signs (which he will) for anything more than 20% less than his current salary, he's a liar and a theif.

Say you won't leave me no more
I'll take you back again
No more excuses no, no
'Cos I've heard them all before
A hundred times or more

I'll forgive and forget
If you say you'll never go
'Cos its true what they say
It's better the devil you know

Our love wasn't perfect I know
I think I know the score
If you say you love me, oh boy
I can't ask for more
I'll come if you should call

I'll be here every day
Waiting for your love to show
Yes it's true what they say
It's better the devil you know

He'll sign because no other richer team will touch him. Which team regularly chasing trophies and success would employ someone who always bottles as soon as the chance of silverware is on offer?

Kenwright will keep offering him an extension because it keeps him in charge of his trainset. The fools are the fans that believe that Moyes staying will be good for the club. The guy is demanding the club take on further borrowing so he can shop with the rich kids....and I'm worried that Kenwright will give it to him and in a few years time EFC will be in administration.

There must come a time when owners of Everton Football Club must realise you can't own EFC without putting more cash into the club. Just paying the bills from expected income is not good enough in the Premier League, with the likes of second to bottom, QPR still able to pay Samba £100,000 a week as he is directly responsible for 2 goals conceded against Fulham last night.

That article might as well have been dictated at gunpoint by Kenwright.

Wayne:

"Kenwright will keep offering him an extension because it keeps him in charge of his trainset. The fools are the fans that believe that Moyes staying will be good for the club..."

Can't you see the contradiction in these two sentences? Why would Kenwright offer Moyes an extension unless he thought he was "good for the club"? Moyes has been Kenwright's human shield for years; when the former leaves.. (The only fools amongst the fans are the ones who think that Kenwright staying will be good for the Club.)

"The guy is demanding the club take on further borrowing so he can shop with the rich kids"

Not true. Moyes wants assurances that he will gain access to some of the increase in TV money next season.
