Is Everton the best place for David Moyes?

David Moyes should think carefully when considering his future at the end of the season. If Moyes’s ambition is to move to a bigger club, there is nowhere in the Premier League for him to go at present. Moyes has grown to be extremely well respected and favoured at Everton, and that is not something to throw away lightly.

He's tailor made for Leeds United. Get them back into the Premier League within 3 years and keep them from relegation for ever. Will they ever win anything - never! - but that's an improvement from where they are now.

There are no clubs in top flight who give managers much time to get it right on the field. Moyes is a good manager, when given time. He does have the knack of turning half decent players into very good ones such as Coleman and Jags. And turning good players into very good players such as Baines, Fellaini and Arteta. IMO, Moyes is suited to Everton and vice versa. He once called Everton the people's club because Everton and Everton fans remind him of his beloved club, Celtic.

It's just a pity he didn't realise that like Celtic we are unwilling to accept meek capitulations to our local rivals.

There is only one word to describe David Moyes, and that is "average". He isn't good enough to manage at a higher level than Everton.

If Martin O'Neill, a man with a great record with plenty of silverware in his career had to wait for more than two years before taking the Sunderland job last year, then can you imagine how long it will take David Moyes, a clueless, inept idiot with a record of winning next to nothing in a 13-year management career with numerous occasions of choking in big games and underachieving, to find another job? Could you imagine him managing Man Utd? Or Chelsea?

No.

The only job he would realistically get is either Celtic or Scotland, he is not made out for the Bundesliga and is definitely NOT a man cut out for Europe. If he went anywhere else, he won't get another idiot like Kenwright protecting him for 11 years of failure again and failing on the big occasion. In fact, I hope he goes to a Top 4 club next year like Chelsea because the media would finally realise how clueless Moyes is.

I agree with Phil, Leeds might be good for him but would he drop to the Championship? Absolutely not. He believes in the hype and praise he receives from the media and he probably thinks he can manage a club like Chelsea, but in reality he can't. I think he is two or three years too late unfortunately. If he would have quit 2 or 3 years ago, he might have got the Spurs or Villa but he chose to stay.

Unless BK goes with him (I think we will all hope and pray for that), I can't see him getting the same support and security again. If we would have had a man in charge with more dosh and ambition, Gollum would have been sacked years ago. He has been fortunate to have support from our shambles of a board for 11 years.

A bigger club would totally discredit his "reputation" from the media and demonstrate the fact that he is clueless. Moyes, I'm sorry to say, but you've missed the boat.

Ross, you know he's better than just average. His record at Everton shows him to be among the very best managers of any club outside the Sky 4 throughout the Premier League era. Surely the fact that Everton have won nothing in his years here is more a condemnation of the Board he works for than the man himself.

Perhaps you would like to name all those managers with similar resources who have consistently made him look so `average`.

Richard
If he is better than average why is he still here?
You could say Laudrup has had similar resources to Moyes at Swansea, in the top half and has WON a trophy, in his first year in England.
O'Neill at Villa, Lerner didn't give him much to spend, and he had players like Milner and Barry sold, consecutive Top 6 finishes.
Martinez, Wigan spend less than we do, went to Goodison and wiped us off the pitch 3-0 and could have won 5 or 6.
Hodgson at Fulham, got to the Europa final in the same year Moyes choked at Sporting Lisbon. Now manager of England.
I do admit however that due to Kenwright being the poverty stricken drama queen he is, Moyes POSSIBLY might have done better, but does BK choose tactics, or pick the team?
No, it is the responsibility of the manager and the fact we have won nothing in 11 years is mostly down to him.

Apparently we are getting investment so he will be staying: http://www.everton.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=314631

Having beeen prewarned of the impeding doom that is next years season ticket sales. BK cooked up the following plan: Apparently in-between conversation with his wife on the phone about a trip to a leading household supplier, apparently at the point of Mrs K describing that she needed a new bath mat, BK had a eureka moment.

Ross- Average? What nonsense.

He's done wonders for this club. Turned us into relegation fodder into European contenders.
But you're probably one of those fans who think that silverware is the only way of progressing.

Under the current regime, he has plucked some gems out of the Championship and turned them into internationals.

Could some other manager do the same job Moyes has done? I'd be saying no, if it was me. If we had more resources to buy a bigger squad then yes we would be challenging in Europe, but that's something that a lot of 'poorer' teams struggle with- depth of squad.

We have a first team capable of beating any team in the PL, I thank Moyes for gathering a squad good enough to do that.

He ain't perfect but for what little he has been given he generally does very well with it.

I still think it's the best place for him, he knows the club inside out, and I hope he does stay.

Edward

We obviously agree to differ on our opinions but I believe that, for the players we have had and the big games we have been in (Wigan, Liverpool in the Semi, Cup Final v Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon etc), he simply hasn't delivered and he would have been sacked years ago if we had an Abramovich type owner.

He isn't good enough and hasn't got the CV to walk into a big job like Chelsea; if he does move on, he won't get another idiot like BK to protect and support him for as long as he has been here.

You want him to stay and I respect your opinion but I think a change is needed if we are to progress after 11 years of stability.

Rijkaard in.
