Season › 2012-13 › News Gibson will need an op this summer , ESPN , 15 April, 11comments | Jump to most recent Darron Gibson is likely to need a summer operation to rectify a thigh problem, David Moyes has revealed. He was ruled out for three months with a torn thigh muscle suffered during the early stages of a 2-0 defeat at West Brom on September 1. Although he returned in late November, the problem forced him to miss most of January as well. Moyes said: "After the game on Saturday, I was asked about Darron Gibson's goal and his shot. I think he could do it more and with more ferocity as well because he's got a great shot on him. "But he has got a bit of a problem at the top of his thigh which I think will need some form of operation at the end of the season." Gibson's influence for Everton is demonstrated by the fact that they have lost only three of the 29 league games in which he has played for them. Moyes added: "I think that what he's given us is that he's good on the ball. He's got a better range of passing than maybe some of the other midfielders we've got. He's a different type. "He can score from a shot and we're hoping that he can do that more regularly. That was one of the main reasons for bringing him in - to start to try and get some more goals from midfield." Kevin Jones 2 Posted 15/04/2013 at 17:04:17 If he's injured now, how goods he gonna be when he's fit. Still can't believe we got him for 1/2 Million. Biggest bargain since Peter Reid Gavin Ramejkis 3 Posted 15/04/2013 at 17:35:09 This came out months ago, some form of bony growth, recycled news Mark Frere 4 Posted 15/04/2013 at 17:52:11 Gibson's a class act; for me, he would always be the first name on the team sheet. Players like Fellaini are nowhere near as important to us. Gibson cost us £½ million, Fellaini cost us £15 million and we will probably sell him for £20-30 million. If we were to sell Gibson, we wouldn't get half as much for him even though he's a better passer, better dribbler and all round better footballer. I'ts funny how the media seem to sing the praise of Fellaini and never even give gibson a mention James Flynn 5 Posted 15/04/2013 at 22:09:16 Mark - Give the money thing a rest. Fella cost what he cost because many clubs were in for him. 5 years later, what player is most talked about to leave for major bucks? Fella. I hope he stays but doubt it, given our ownership. We'll make our money back+ if he's sold.I think we have to keep in mind that ManU is a talent warehouse. If Gibson didn't have that thigh problem, he wouldn't have been available to us or anyone. Fergy's in the position where he can simply extract Player A and insert Player B, C, or D. That's why the talented but not always available Gibson went on the market and we have Moyes stating Miralles has to play thru the pain. Mark Frere 6 Posted 15/04/2013 at 22:20:37 James Flynn 958Why do you hope he stays? The sale of Fella is the only way we are going to get much needed additions to our squad. In my opinion he's not that great anyway and with CL football or not, I think we would benefit from selling him. Why do you suggest I give the money thing a rest? Money is the main thing that dictates modern day football nowadays. James Flynn 7 Posted 15/04/2013 at 23:17:11 Mark - I don't want him to go because he's a good player. His sale will (hopefully) free up money for the manager, yes. But wouldn't we be better he stays and our owners make other monies available? Fella's a terrific player. Everything being equal, why sell him? It's about the owners, not Fella. How are we to keep him and Baines when players much less talented and influential (especially with Baines) are making so much more in salary? In fact, I wonder why so much attention is given to Fella leaving when the more obvious departure is Baines. We can put Fella wherever we want in a talent discussion. I rate him highly myself. But there can be no discussion of the best LB on earth without including Baines. And he's on what wage? How do we keep him?"Why do you suggest I give the money thing a rest"? Fair enough. I meant the money thing talking about Fella's and Gibson's cost. Many were in for Fella, no one for Gibson. We were fortunate that a player as good as Gibson cost way less than Jela, never mind Fella. A steal. He gets the surgery to fix his thigh? The steal of the last few years. Roman Sidey 8 Posted 16/04/2013 at 02:34:52 If he needs the surgery, if at some point before the last game we are as high in the table as we can mathematically get, cut him open and get it done. We don't want players coming back as the season starts, we need them to be ready to kick on day one. Ross Edwards 9 Posted 16/04/2013 at 13:25:51 We seem to play better without Fella than we do with him. We play good stuff when he isn't there, yet with him in the side we hoof the ball aimlessly towards him.If we should get a bid of £25-£30 million we should bite their hands off. We could get about 3 or 4 good players with that money. Harold Matthews 10 Posted 16/04/2013 at 15:05:16 Gibson is a fine player but his leg problem needs sorting out. With the ball, going forward, he is quite useful with a touch of class. Unfortunately, he, all too often, tracks back at walking pace and this has cost us on several occasions this season.Unlike most Gibson supporters Mr Moyes will be well aware of this and is probably getting a bit cheesed off with the leg excuse James Stewart 11 Posted 16/04/2013 at 16:09:36 @918 Spot on. I think most of the time when Fellaini plays we play worst. Certainly when he is thrown up front. I don't think he should be moved from CM/DM personally.
