Odds on Moyes to Man Utd slashed

Bookmakers Paddy Power have slashed odds on David Moyes joining Manchester United in the summer. The Everton manager is out of contract at the end of the season and the odds on him becoming the next Manchester United manager were slashed from 7/2 to 1/2 favourite after what they called a "flood of overnight bets."

Moyes to be Sir Alex's No 2 next season.... Possible, though more likely the bookies have made some quick cash this morning.

No, that's not happening, bet he stays with us

Past caring. He's done us no favours this season with his contract prevarication. If he can't say now what his intentions are with the season effectively over, then I hope (but don't expect) that The Dear Leader tells him to do one and start the search for his successor.

Another odds on fave bites the dust. Stewards inquiry... lol. Maybe they are getting confused with FC United.

Seems to be a few bookies giving around 10/1 on the current Porto coach, Vitor Pereira. After Martinez they don't seem to have a clue.

Moyes to Man Utd, initially as No 2. Mourinho to Chelsea and Rafa to Goodison. You heard it here first!

It was the same with the Spuds job until they revealed AVB......just bookies hedging their bets and going where the money is. Nothing to see here.

Odds on Moyes to Man Utd slashed.

Odds on me slashing myself if it happens, slashed.

Odds on Dodd and Entwistle slashing their wrists, slashed.

Could be temporary manager whilst SAF has his hip surgery and then revert to number two when he returns until he retires. Possible I suppose.

Like all things Moyes — pure guesswork.

Truly shocking a few games to go and as usual nothing of any importance to play for and the smug git is swanning around like King Tut. Doubtless chuffed with this latest nonsense.

How fans think he is anything but self-centred is beyond me - can't wait for the day we get someone interested in the club managing.

I think DM could announce his departure this week so he can say goodbye to the fans after the West Ham game on Sunday.

So does Davey `bemoan` (see previous news thread) or covet Manchester moneybags?

Has Ross Edwards bribed United to take him?

Answers, please!

I don't think announcing he's leaving so he can say goodbye to the fans at the West Ham game is his style.

But that raised an image in my mind of a post-season open top bus parade through the streets of Liverpool. Blues cheering, on tip toes just to get a look... Just Moyes on top deck, at the front - no trophy.

Moyes as a Number 2?????? Makes perfect sense to me, he's proved that's his level. :)

Erm Nick, either you have invented a whole new level of sarcasm that is way beyond my limited intellect, or you've changed your tune, I'm really really confused, but not for the first time on ToffeeWeb.

Stop playing with my simple mind, that's not funny!

I think it's the right time for Moyes to let everybody know what his decision is but he wants to wait till the end season. Why?

Isn't he best mates with Ferguson? I think Ferguson has definitely asked Moyes to be his assistant and then take over. Is Martinez the right man to take over Everton? I think so.

Steve Pugh

Barry, your bitterness is showing through, everyone connected with the club, even those that have left, agree that Moyes is Everton through and through, and is most certainly not self-centred. In fact he is quite unassuming.

Criticise him for his dodgy substitutions, slate his tactical ineptitude, but don't make up rubbish just to get in a little dig.

Ross Edwards

Doddy — "Has Ross Edwards bribed United to take him?"

Well, I did have a small chin-wag with Sir Alex and I persuaded him to take on an apprentice, I said you could have him on board as Number Two for a year to learn the ropes then he can take over. He accepted.

Nick — That's it, mate, join the MOB, all we need now is Doddy to have a mental breakdown and change sides and our work will be complete!

It's time for Moyes to end all the speculation over his future with us. EFC have never considered the fans' feelings re the club or its policies: DM has done brilliantly to keep the club going forward on a poverty-stricken budget so every Evertonian knows what he could achieve with the finances available to the 'big spenders' of the Premier League...

In effect, he MUST stay as long as those finances are made available. There is not one manager available with the foresight and ability he has who could replace him.

No chance, Ross, of me having a mental breakdown but I will say this: If Davey decides to move on, I will be very disappointed but wish him all the best.

I've always been worried about BK's ability to find the right guy to at least maintain the high standard Davey has set. But, whoever he chooses, he will have my support for as long as he reaches that very searching goal.

I do not believe Everton will ever win the Prem in my time on earth but Moyes's regular 'seventhish' is the level we should expect as the norm.

From my understanding off online gambling, companies betting IT systems, the (hard and software) they use rely on sophisticated algorithms to monitor all betting activity to search for suspicious betting patterns, eg, everyone randomly betting on the 3rd favourite horse at Haydock an hour before the race. This then 'red flags' in the company and allows them to make an informed decision: (1) Is something corrupt taking place? Or (2) Do customers have insider knowledge?

They also use IP addresses and other data to establish locality of the bets. It is likely that such a 'niche' bet within a short timeframe and confined locality would 'red flag' with a relatively low volume of bets being placed compared to a major event such as the Grand National. They will also consider the size of bet.

So, in short, I believe a relatively low number of high-value bets would be 'red flagged' causing them to slash their odds. In that case, why would someone be putting large bets on this happening? A strong rumour or strong beer could induce this behaviour.

Personally, I doubt this story – I could be wrong though. However, I also remember that before Moyes joined us he had the option to be Number Two at Old Trafford and turned it down as he wanted to be his own boss.

Chris, speaking on Talksport yesterday, Paddy Power said the odds had been trimmed "because of a string of small bets across the region rather than someone coming in with a £10,000 wager."

I guess we should only get concerned when betting is suspended as it was on Redknapp going to QPR!

11 years he has had at Everton to build a team and what do we get? Victor Anichebe and Fellaini up front.

Time for you to go after the Chelsea game — your tactics are crap and boring... and take that dopey Kenwright with you. He was celebrating getting a point against a shit Liverpool team, arsehole.

Chris Regan

Richard, that'll be one of there algorithyms kicking in and 'red-flagging' these bets. Richard I would be even more worried if they stopped taking bets on Redknapp to Everton.

Small bets to me would suggest no one sticking their necks on the line. I would think those closest to Moyes or Ferguson would find a ibt more bunce to wager as they would be 'in-the-know' and likely to re-coup the bet.

I just hope we have decent shortlist and that people have been sounded out. When MArtinez was linkd to Liverpool, Dave Whelan practically took to the streets with a megaphone. So it could be that we have not contacted them if he is a target.

Steve Pugh, I think you'll find Moyes is very self-centred.

Blackmailing the club about his contract. First it was the january transfer window, then the europe qualification, now probably more like if a better job offer comes along. He obviously think's he's outgrown us.

Then there is the constant carping on to the media about how he's achieving miracles with such a small amount of cash. Knives and gunfights and complaining that others can shop at harrods...

He also wants to be paid more than any of the players, I believe.

Incase you didn't notice, it's all about Moyes. He's a very ambitious man, after all. Its about what HE can get and about how the club is holding HIM back. Its a complete u-turn from his first few years at the club, and I think that all the media adulation(some of which is justified), has gone to his head, which is getting bigger by the week.

Honestly, I'll be more than happy to see him go. I'd be delighted to see him move to somewhere like Man U or Chelsea then we can watch the train wreck as he falls out with some of their very overpaid ego's and finds out what pressure is really like when he gets the boot after 10 games, from a chairman with a backbone.

Steve Pugh, "everyone connected with the club"!!!

It's bollocks like this proported as gospel that gets my goat - not only are you factually wrong but to suggest 100% of anything is just dull.

To ignore Moyes bullshit about sorting it after xmas/january etc and letting him call the tune into the summer is just poor - it damages prep for next year.

Not that it matters this is Moyes FC.

The other comments are all crap as well but at least they simply reflect Wayne's almost extreme fundamentalist interpretation of all things Moyes. The "more money than the players" totally fabricated bollocks on the other hand is something peculiarly unique to Waynes world.

Wayne, Barry, spot on.
If we went into financial meltdown and into League Two next season he wouldn't even bat an eyelid. He gets £2.9million per year for getting to 40 points and dismal failures in the league and cups every year.
This is one of my bugging issues with the Doddists. They always think that Moyes is loyal and cares about the club. They also run around screaming that there will be impending doom the minute he walks out that door.
This is not Moyes FC, this is Everton. This man will not have a legacy and will not be remembered in a decade's time.

Rumours circulating in Manchester seem to see Moyes taking a year's hiatus and then coming into Old Trafford as Fergies number 2. Obviously taking the reigns when Fergies retires. This rumour supposedly comes from ex blue Mark Ward who has some connections in the Oldham area. Personally I think it's crap myself why be anyone's number 2, wound'nt this be a backwards step in Moyes career or do you think it's worth his gamble to become the Manager of one of he biggest clubs around.
Ross Edwards

," wound'nt this be a backwards step in Moyes career "
No, it is a step forward. He is more a number 2. Those with no personality and being a yes man like Phil Neal are suited to being a number two. DM suits that description personally as anyone with a brain and some balls would have told Bill where to go years ago.
Denis Richardson
37 Posted 07/05/2013 at 21:35:22
If it did happen, would be the best thing to happen in the league in decades.

Manure would finally be cut down to size. Would then love to hear Moyes' 'knives to a gun fight crap' post match crap as the Blues destroy his Manure side at GP! Barkley and McAleny running rings around their 6 man midfield....

Oh to dream.....

Just heard r5l report on this story as part of their 10.30pm sports bulletin.

I'd be surprised myself from mufc's perspective.

Maybe a crossroads summer coming up for the mighty blues. No obvious candidates for me.

Patrick Murphy
39 Posted 07/05/2013 at 22:48:23
Mike that is the truth of the matter there are no obvious replacements, however DM when he arrived was not an obvious choice either. If DM does end up at MUFC I will be happy for him annoyed with him as well, as he may have been working to MUFC's timetable and not Everton's. This is understandable considering MUFC's need to inform the NYSE about any managerial changes,

I'm still unsure about Martinez and would probably prefer Zola or Poyet who at least manage teams who are used to winning albeit in a lower division. But what I don't want is a Mcleish, or McClaren type who have flattered to deceive at other PL clubs. Someone fresh and daring is what we should be looking for but whoever it is will have a difficult job keeping us in the top 8 of the league, I even think if DM decided to stay he too would have a difficult job to maintain our top 8 place next season.

Just go now please, for the love of Christ. Stop fucking around, make up your mind and go. 11 years of what could have been. We need a fresh start, a young daring manager who will not reproduce the shite from Sunday and send us crashing out of cup ties to teams we should batter.

Give youth it's chance, use all of your squad and let's start to play some entertaining stuff for once and maybe then we can dream of winning some trophies and start over to maintain our rightful place in Europe once again. Oh for those glory nights!

We're talking here about the man who sued Rooney for spouting lies about him, and when he won substantial damages.... gave them all the the Blue Blood foundation.

He's got more balls and integrity than most people on this site. Ingrates.
