Season › 2012-13 › News Kenwright caught off guard by United move for Moyes Kevin McCauley, The Guardian , 8 May, 45comments | Jump to most recent Manchester United's desire to secure David Moyes took Everton by surprise with the Merseyside club feeling aggrieved that they did not receive the courtesy of an official approach from the champions. However, as Moyes's contract with Everton expires on 30 June, Man Utd were not required to do so. The news had been so unexpected at Goodison Park that until 2pm on Wednesday, four hours after Ferguson made his decision public, Everton's chairman, Bill Kenwright, had no idea that Moyes was wanted by United. » Read the full article at The Guardian Reader Comments (45) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Nick Entwistle 3 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:08:10 Double Bullshit. Colin Wainwright 4 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:10:52 Makes fuckin' perfect sense to me.*chuckles* Patrick Murphy 5 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:09:10 John, Agreed and I think that this may be the start of the United press starting to heap a pile of manure in our direction and ensuring that DM is seen as a miracle worker who kept a badly-run small club in the PL. Stand by for lots and lots of drivel written in the media for the whole of this summer and beyond.I hope whoever comes in galvanises the players and supporters to try and achieve what we did when Rooney left for United. Brendan McLaughlin 6 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:13:24 Well maybe Bill read ToffeeWeb & believed all the experts on here who have been saying no big club would ever come in for Moyes...so maybe Bill's not the only fool? Colin Glassar 7 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:19:40 Apparently, Billy Liar has grown a pair and has insisted on Moyes remaining for at least the West Ham game as the Ginger One is ready to walk tomorrow. Danny Broderick 8 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:20:22 There could be some truth in this, although I think it has been tilted to have a go at Kenwright. I'm sure I read something from Paul Tyrrell stating that as yet they had received no official approach from United and that, such is the relationship between the clubs, he was expecting contact if they did want Moyes. Why on earth they expected to be consulted about what Moyes will do AFTER his contract has expired seems foolish and amateurish, but sadly I think there may be some truth in this... Nick Armitage 9 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:27:06 Yeah, and Moyes was shocked as well.Kenwright has known that Moyes was Old Trafford bound for years. Danny Broderick 10 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:29:03 I did a google search and this came up on the Sun website:"Paul Tyrell, the Merseyside clubs director of communications, said: “There has been no approach by Manchester United to Everton regarding manager David Moyes.“The relationship is such between both clubs that any contact would be made officially through the club.“David is still under contract at Everton and so any approach would be official.” Clive Lewis 11 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:31:42 Kenwright interview coming up Sky Sports News... Paul Andrews 12 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:32:34 It`s not astonishing to me.Bill has been clueless for years Michael Kenrick 13 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:38:34 Danny, that is so classic. Talk about heads in the sand. I wonder if he actually knows Moyes's contract is expiring... Peter Laing 14 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:37:35 Kenwright says Moyes in charge of Everton on Sunday yawn James Carlisle 15 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:34:23 Bill kenwright? Clueless? Nooo. Everyone brace yourselves, there's bound to be a cheesey statement in the coming days from chairman bill throwing out his usual superlatives to describe Moyes and their cringey homo erotic relationship. Oh and their will be waterworks, big fake waterworks, I can promise you that.Chairman bill, may you live for a thousand years! Paul Andrews 16 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:40:29 What a magnificent leader of our club this man is.Voice trembling...heartbreaking deep breath pause before answering... and then..."I just want to go home, have a cup of tea see the dogs and go to bed"Any potential managerial targets will be queuing around the block to be employed by a general such as this. Clive Lewis 17 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:43:44 BK says his contract is up in 6 weeks. Patrick Murphy 18 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:42:18 Michael that report in the Sun was from late afternoon /early evening I referred to it at the time, but not exactly sure of the time. Colin Glassar 19 Posted 08/05/2013 at 23:42:22 BK will give Moyes a farewell address to an empty Gwladys St next week. Only sideshow bob elstone, the media and BIlly Liar's dogs are invited. BK doesn't want any scummy fans or shareholders ruining his moment in the sun. Harold Matthews 20 Posted 09/05/2013 at 00:24:09 BK close to tears. Stephen Graham 21 Posted 09/05/2013 at 00:50:17 BK quoted as saying "I'm shocked. Shocked" Richard Dodd 22 Posted 09/05/2013 at 00:51:27 `A source at Old Trafford told us this evening that Ross Edwards gave the club permission to speak to Moyes some weeks ago together eith a firm recommendation to appoint him to the post`. Tony Stanley 23 Posted 09/05/2013 at 01:12:59 Is that an insult to our collective intelligence or what? James Flynn 24 Posted 09/05/2013 at 01:55:45 Oh, take it easy.Kenright will wish Moyes the best, correctly, and focus on who next in for us, not the future of ManU's new manager.I'm an all-in Moyesist. Hate he's leaving. But once he leaves my only interest is who our next manager will be, God help us.On the other hand!! Fella and Baines gone (and they are) will give the new guy in a lot of dosh to spend. Kenright and them HAVE to make the money available. They do, don't they? James Flynn 25 Posted 09/05/2013 at 02:04:56 Richard - Whatever folks say to you, they acknowledge and respect you as real. A touchstone, even.Ross is a WUM and knows it. 2 different things. Respond to others. Not him. He's not in your league. John Keating 26 Posted 09/05/2013 at 05:25:51 Believe me, Alex Ferguson didn't wake up a couple of days ago and just decide to retire. This has been well in the planning for both Ferguson and Moyes. We and the Club move on and I don't think it's that which pisses me off a bit. What I find distasteful is Moyes past history in telling everyone "the correct way of doing things". Regardless of what he might say, his reluctance/refusal to sign a contract and leave it to the end of the season definitely affected the players.Secondly, and more important, we still have two fucking games to play!! What happened to the "let's leave it to the end of the season" shite?! Let Man Utd announce Ferguson's retirement whenever they want as it's their business. Moyes could have and should have had the decency to leave it a couple of weeks. As for Kenwright, he really is the prick a lot of people say he is. Possibly, if he and his shit Board had backed Moyes up over the years, he wouldn't be embarrassing himself and the Club on telly!!! Norman Merrill 27 Posted 09/05/2013 at 06:56:41 I have my doubts on who will replace Moyes, just can't see some of the names being banded about, being interested. No cash worth talking about, a very high expectancy, and a invisible board. No doubt, when the time comes, and the new man is chosen & named, this site will be snowed under with those for & against. The summer is going to be hotter than usual. James McGarry 28 Posted 09/05/2013 at 07:11:29 Billy fucking Liar is at it again. He's gonna use this excuse to drag his fucking feet on a replacement and end up with a loser like Hughes or O'Neill. Why don't you pack your fucking bags and go too, Kenwright — you're a bigger loser than Moyes was. How can this man be allowed to run our club. I truly fear for us next season; we will lose our best players in the transfer window and get another yes-man who will manage with what he's got just to get the fucking job. Everything is playing into Kenwright and the board's hands. Wake up and smell the coffee. Gavin Ramejkis 29 Posted 09/05/2013 at 07:15:32 Gullible gobshites, there's not a fucking hope that a £2.3Bn company takes an overnight punt on a new manager, this has been lined up for months probably only awaiting the Grinch to win one final league title. Billy Bullshitter will be spinning some cock and bullshit to move any blame away from himself as per usual and the sheep will mop it up. James McGarry 31 Posted 09/05/2013 at 07:18:28 Kenwright spinning yarns again and people taking it in fuck me he's been playing this shit since he took over the club. Wake up. Watch him now try and get the sympathy vote crying He's a bigger joke than Moyes. He will fuck up the appointment of the next manager in fact the next manager won't be in place unti the week before the new season starts giving no time to get new players in. This is classic Kenwright it's all been scripted by Kenwright and Moyes not to upset season ticket sales. He's pulled h wool over your eyes again or let's say he's pulled the flock over shall we. Richard Dodd 32 Posted 09/05/2013 at 07:40:49 Why couldn`t he come on and sound like a fecking businessman? All that sentimental luvvie shite achieves nothing. He should have said that `obviously the Board have planned ahead for this eventuality and have a shortlist of targets in mind.`But he`s Kenwright so tears is all we can expect !Just hope they won`t be in our eyes next season! Eugene Ruane 33 Posted 09/05/2013 at 07:35:24 It's a good question. Why HAS this all happened with two games to go?Why could all yesterday's events not have happened a day after the last game?In other words nobody says anything until the season is over, then Fergie retires and Moyes is named successor. The only reason I can think of is so the managers get their farewells.Fine for Fergie but means in effect, we get the following situation. The manager of another team will be in charge of Everton for the last couple of games. Mike Green 34 Posted 09/05/2013 at 07:47:02 Eugene #676 - I would expect Fergie has decided wants one last trot around Old Trafford as manager and soak up the adulation, and no ones going to stop him - it's a bit like being able to attend your own funeral! And to an extent that says it all, he and Man Utd have worked their way into a position where they can call the shots and everyone else falls in line. It'll be interesting to see if Moyes carries on in the dugout for our final two games, it'll be a bit of a odd if he does, bit odd if he doesn't. Stuart Gray 35 Posted 09/05/2013 at 07:54:51 In January I said to a mate who is a Utd fan that I thought the reason Moyes hadn't signed a contract at Everton was because his good friend Fergie had told him that he was going to retire at the end of the season.I still believe this, I think Moyes knew and I think BK probably knew as well. Now, maybe, BK was trying to get Moyes to sign a contract and Moyes told Fergie "I need to know now what's happening" which is why the news came out sooner that Ferguson wanted. Basically Moyes forced their hand. And what this means is that Moyes has pretty much shafted us. He knows better than anyone our financial situation and now he can walk away for free. No compensation at all.Which in turn means we'll be picking up one of the free agents ourself. Look out for Oneill or Hughes. Or McClaren. We are screwed. Kevin Tully 36 Posted 09/05/2013 at 08:00:14 Well that's not a good start is it?Rooney wants out already! Derek Williams 37 Posted 09/05/2013 at 08:01:25 I'll be very sorry to see Moyesy go if and when that happens but this has, presumably, been on the cards for ages. Which explains why he kept his options open and wouldn't sign a new contract - it's not hard to imagine a conversation between Whiskey Nose and DM along the lines of "I'm approaching 73, if I can get yet another Premiership title under my belt and/or another Champions League I'm inclined to pack it in in the summer of 2013 ... you're my chosen successor Davie son, don't be signing any long term contracts at Everton, we'll see where we are in May and if I change my mind you can do what's best for yourself then".So to say Blue Bill had no idea is plain daft, he must have realised something was happening with DM's apparent indecision, what was bulllshit was DM insisting that he wanted to see where Everton were at this stage, in reality he meant where Sir WN was! Richard Dodd 38 Posted 09/05/2013 at 08:27:56 I just think Man U. had to wait on the Great Man`s word until he was certain he had put `the noisy neighbours` back in their cupboard. That`s why Davey was so adament that he could make no decision until the end of season. If Man U. hadn`t won the Prem,Fergie would have wanted another year and Davie would have insisted on a one year roll over contract.Kenwright has shed my tears,I`m just looking forward to `the next chapter` in the Everton story! Lloyd Farrell 39 Posted 09/05/2013 at 09:35:59 If Kenwright takes as long to find a replacement manager as he has finding investment, We are totally fooked & I mean TOTALLY... Hope all the Moyes haters will be happy when we are struggling next season. Guttered Ross Edwards 40 Posted 09/05/2013 at 10:46:18 Well, that was to be expected. Kenwright's Sky interview was pathetic. Actor right down to his boots.Richard`A source at Old Trafford told us this evening that Ross Edwards gave the club permission to speak to Moyes some weeks ago together eith a firm recommendation to appoint him to the post`.Well, I persuaded Fergie to retire, and convinced BK to let Moyes go.Success! Tony J Williams 41 Posted 09/05/2013 at 10:50:41 "Hope all the Moyes haters will be happy when we are struggling next season" - Fucks sake!!!! Where is the Piccard head slap gif when you need it.We will not struggle next season, we may slip a few places but who knows, we could move upwards too? Ross Edwards 42 Posted 09/05/2013 at 10:54:16 Well, the Moyes lovers can commit suicide then. Doom and Gloom, the end of the world is nigh, the Moyesiah is no more, pathetic!. when we get Jesus from Benfica we will be alright.De Boer for me. Callum McNab 44 Posted 09/05/2013 at 11:26:08 John (632) spot on mate. This has been going on since January ,that's why he wouldn't sign a new contract. He has played a blinder. He has joined the rest of the billy liars and treated us all like mushrooms. Keep us all in the dark, and feed us plenty of shit. Oliver Molloy 45 Posted 09/05/2013 at 13:00:43 Eugene @ 676Somebody somewhere on a golf course let the cat out of the bag on Monday. The press got hold of the rumour and everything snow balled.Utd had to come out and state what was going on.Although not confirmed as the new man u manager yet I do think Moyes obviously must have been sounded out some time ago about Ferguson retiring.P.Neville most likely would have known about the approach.W.Rooney asking for a move some weeks ago was another clue.I think Kenwright has to shoulder his responsibility as a chairman for not insisting Moyes sign a new contract ( even short term) or walk.He has again failed to protect the clubs financial interests.Moyes has proven himself to be "builder" of teams at the level Everton are at just now.It remains to be seen if he can do the job at Utd. Matt Traynor 47 Posted 26/06/2013 at 18:01:26 The Echo are live-streaming it! Would be interested to hear their version of events compared to others there. Patrick Murphy 48 Posted 26/06/2013 at 18:52:44 Robert Elston(RE)I hope he means merchandise and not Players! But really reading the live link on the Echo website and you can see that this man although well intended is seriously out of his depth. He is points out that RE:We've worked exceptionally hard to keep hold of Chang.RE: We are a club that is easy to buy from, we are working hard to achieve thatRE: The search for a brand new stadium goes on; we are in dialogue with Liverpool City Council and one plot of land discussed very seriously. It is obviously the holy grail as far as this board and management is concerned they want out of Goodison and that appears to be their only aim.
