Star left back wins award for the second time
Leighton Baines was the winner of the Players' Player of the Season award for the second time at Everton's 2012-13 End of Season Awards last night.

The England international, who has played every minute of every League game for the Blues so far this season, was the near-unanimous choice.

Departing manager David Moyes was given another rousing send-off from the assembled guests and was also awarded the Chairman's Blueblood award. Phil Neville was the recipient of the Howard Kendall Award.

Ross Barkley was named Young Player of the Season, Chris Long the Academy Player of the Season, while Kevin Mirallas won Goal of the Season for his mazy solo run and strike against Stoke City.

Well deserved. Had a fair old blip these last couple of months, but first half of the season he was superb. Lets hope he stays with us!

As an aside - I can't believe Barkley won Young Player. Don't know if Coleman was eligible, but Ross has hardly played a bloody game!

Says a lot when our young player of the year has hardly played. Whatever happened to the days of integrating young players into the first team squad?

It seems 'young players' have to be in early twenties before they get a good crack at establishing themselves. McManaman illustrates this at Wigan.

I guess Duffy could be looking at a breakthrough season.

Great season, great player.

Couldn't argue with the choices really, although Baines had a shout for goal of the season with that free kick at Newcastle.

Coleman must have been ineligible for young award cuz he was brilliant after new year.

Phil - I agree Barkley has hardly played but hasn't he played more this season, than when Velios won the same award last year? This award is becoming a joke!

Played Bainsey. Great player & model professional.

Good point. It pretty emphatically dispels the myth that Moyes 'gives youth a chance' when the winner of Young Player goes to a lad who hasn't been at the club half the year - and the other half he's spent on the bench.

Well deserved Bainsey. I had to laugh about Barkley's award. What did he play? Like 20 minutes this season?

Just out the pit after a long night. It was one long love fest for whatshisname and the queer fella.

Am I the only one who thinks this has all gone on a bit too long? It all reminded me of a returning Roman Emperor who had conquered far away lands, in the end I just zoned out when the blue rinse was waffling for half an hour.

There is no player, or employee of the club who has a clue who is coming in, so no decision there yet.

A good night, but couldn't really cheer for the new Man Utd boss – and a few others were starting to think that way as well.

Mirallas for me.

Colin, I think Ross' award isn't for the best young player in the first team, but in the club overall. So he played more than 20 mins. But not all season given his loan periods! (that sounds as if only he had periods?! you know what I mean).

I'm amazed its only the second time he's won it, just shows you can still be under-rated even when your the best left back in the world.

Baines has had a great season, he has gotten tired towards the end, but I feel this is not the right man to get player of the season.

Leon Osman has had a magnificent season for us, he has my vote (Even though its too late now).

Liam, I think you've opened the floodgates there, mate. Get your life jacket on, mate.

Aye Kevin, how many leaving do's can you have?

It's time to focus on our new leader. I'm firmly for Senor Hector Pequeno Zapatos, manager of FC Paella.

Foreign managers just smell different.

What no Osman in the Ennnnggggeerrrrrllaaannnnddddd squad?

Liam (868) no. Did you also spot how under par Prarbolds finest was in the final third of the season, how knackered he was in the final quarter of games, and how light he is in tackles.

That said, I do agree with you that LB's form slumped as the season dragged on. I might have out a shout in for Jags.

Anyone know the name of the only outfield player to play in every minute of every game this season?

Distin?

Distin or Baines?

Was it Barkley?

Ha, it was Baines, with Osman not far behind.

Bainsey thoroughly deserves this
It really proves just how class he is when we may be a shade disappointed that his form may have dipped below "exceptional" for a handful of games in a season during which he started every game

Plus
Isn't he just the kind of Blue that you want pulling on the Royal Blue Jersey

EVERTON FC Style & Dignity since 1878
Leighton Baines, he understands . . . . .
