Well no surprises there, we finish ahead of them but they get more money than us, same can be said for other clubs too. This is precisely why we need a known name as the next manager, somebody that will get the TV networks wanting to see how they can make us play. Expectation that's what we need to create.

It's not a glass ceiling its a 70" flat-screen TV. How can LFC be so close to Chelsea who finished 3rd got to the Semi's of the FA Cup and won the Europa cup. I don't know how many times the dark side were on but I know they seemed to have every match live on mainstream or satellite telly. The other thing that gets my goat is when we have a Saturday home game and they are away and they KO of at half-past five it really spoils my matchday experience when you can't get to the bar for Red-noses who've never been to Liverpool never mind the the ground.

It's all down to your media appeal, an area that we are big failure at.

Anyone know the difference between this year and last? Seemed like we were on the box a bit more this season.

No big mystery re them.

China, Thailand, Far-East, Middle-East etc - there are millions of 'Loyal Reds' in these places.

Partly because of their past EC/CL success and partly because their marketing men have (unlike the idle, hopeless amateur puddins we employ) done their jobs well.

In this area, they employ professionals and we......don't.

Bigger audience, more demand, more money.

Foreign markets bring in equal revenue for all, Eugene.

The difference comes in the domestic market where the number of live games will determine the differences above.

I'm just amazed anyone but filthy reds would want to watch them. Thank goodness their desire for the foreign market revenue dictated by audience share didn't happen.

I always watch them, at least until they score.

I can't watch them. I find 90+ minutes of willing a team to lose, preferably by a huge margin, far too negative an experience!

£50m So go out and get the Porto guy Vitor Pereira now we can show him we have £50 million before the bank snatches it. As long as he thinks we have money he might just come here, he fits the bill completely should be favorite but people are not looking far enough or don't have enough ambition.

Bill Kenwright needs to grow some balls and be brave for once and go out and get this guy before he goes elsewhere.... Yeah wishful thinking, too, I know.

Can you really see the foreign fickle punters supporting that club that bottled it each time they get close to silverware? If we want to be on TV more, we need to play like we fucking deserve to win stuff. Remember when the RS were near the bottom of the league. Did Rodgers talk about 40 pts? No, because they have belief that they are better than they are. Same as the top sides who actually win stuff; the opposition are already (mentally)beat before the match kicks off.

Moyes constant belittling of our club such as his various speeches about how little he had to work with and how good a job he was doing, or his "lets get to 40 points" soundbites when we were pushing for a CL spot earlier this season has an effect on the perception of the club by outsiders, including fans and the media. His propensity to play defenders in midfield to defend a draw, which so often backfires also makes us appear very unattractive to the neutrals.

If we can now get a coach with backbone, who believes that your bank balance doesn't determine whether you can win a game of football. A coach who starts talking us up when we win....perhaps then people might start to sit up and take notice and perhaps the players will start to believe we can win games no matter who we play, and then we'll probably find ourselves on TV a bit more.

I also think our Marketing is awful. Even in this country its difficult to buy the kits from shops.

To answer an earlier post in this thread (Robert @ 734), a quick check on the Premier League website shows broadcast payments for last season (2011/2012) were 48.9 Million, so we're up nearly 3 Million this season.

It certainly felt that we were the live game plenty more times this season, possibly on the back of the 4-4 result at Old Trafford at the end of last season, and our "easy on the eye" attacking style early this season.

Our average home attendances also increased this season, to 36,355, from 33,228 in season 2011/2012. again, the improved product on the pitch must account for this hike.

Wayne 892, does it really work like that? Teams like Holloways Blackpool or Martinez's Wigan who seem fearless but in reality concede more than they score, are they on the TV more? The answer is no, both are in the Championship now. So the logic does not seem to stack up. Unless of course you concede the reason they cannot compete is because their bank balance dictates how many games they win or lose. Which contradicts everything you say. So I look forward to your reasoning why these teams are not in the top league, if its not about finance.

My understanding of broadcasting revenue, is the higher up the league you finish, the more likely you are to be shown in more football matches on the TV. I don't see anything to do what your manager says, how you approach games, or if you have eleven defenders on the pitch.

Bear in mind that the prize money for the final placement in the Premier League is included in this. Overseas money is treated separately, and split evenly between all 20 clubs, as pointed out by Nick above.

The domestic TV money is split 50% shared equally between all clubs, 25% in merit (final league placing) and 25% facility fee - live broadcast.

The near 3 million increase on last season is mainly down to being on live more, and a slightly better league finish. The season prior we banked £50.2m, £1.5m less than this season.

Wayne is right though Jon when he say's our marketing is awful. We are marketed like we are some bottom half of the table club, not a top 6 club and one of the most successful clubs in history.

So an increase of 3 million.......therefore we only need to find another 2 million (reduction in Moyes wages I assume for the new man) for us to breakeven - if the figure is still right that we need to find 5 million a year to break even. So the new manager will get sweet fa unless we a) sell an asset - fellani being the likeliest or b)take on more debt or even more unlikely 3) find an investor. What joys of joys. Who would want to sign as a manager on those terms?

I imagine a scene from Father Ted.
The money is just "resting" in Father Bill's account.

But seriously, get Pereira in and send him shopping ASAP.

I think Wayne talks some sense regarding Moyes's comments, outside the borders, managers would view what he says as we're a club struggling to stay in the league.

Liverpool market themselves better than we do. They have more profile abd appeal, therefore they get more games.

Still, the issue we have isn't the 3M less in TV money, it's the huge difference in other income. The TV money is the least of our worries.

Simon #164, the loss last year, after sales of assets, was 9 million.

Without asset sales it's more like 20 million.

The shite are owned by yanks and get a lot of ESPN coverage, not rocket science. Our TV money wasn't down to marketing as the club are piss poor at every branch of business and I suggest our figure was linked to our short burst in the FA cup and our league position, imagine if we could get a marketing staff employed who actually earn their salary.

Watching the Prem over here in Asia we get very few Everton games but almost ALL Red Shite games on TV. Our clubs pathetic Marketing Team is the reason behind that. Even in Thailand where our sponsors Chang , the peasants beer, are based we get little or no coverage outside the games on TV.

Not sure I agree that poor marketting is the reason for lack of game coverage.
In North America I got to see most of Everton's games live if not ESPN then Fox Soccer channnels and maybe that's down to having Tim Howard and a dose of Donovan for 2 seasons.
Liverpool are still living off the back of success from many seasons past and even though American money people are backing them I don't see them covered any more than the Blues these days.

Wayne Smith#892, spot on mate. Moyes was the epitome of negativity. Always talked up the opposition before games, always complained of his resources, or lack of, was chuffed when we got to 40 points etc... He wasnt ambitious IMO and was a dull, negative, boring manager. I wonder if he lasts a season at OT?
