The Blues' manager told the Liverpool Echo that any reports of United returning with a higher offer for the 28-year-old since then has been pure speculation as Everton consider the matter closed. CEO Robert Elstone said as much at the first supporter event in San Francisco and Martinez has reiterated the Blues' stance that the focus with regard to Baines is very much now on preparing for the coming season. “Before we went to Austria one club officially contacted ourselves with an offer and it was a final offer," he said. “They put something over and the valuation wasn't anywhere near the quality of Leighton Baines. That was the end of it but since then there's been all the speculation, which has been part of what the transfer window is. “There's never been another club or anyone else putting in an offer for Leighton. Since then we've moved on and we're continuing to focus on the start of the season.” Quotes or other material sourced from Liverpool Echo Update: Daily Mail pushes Baines for transfer request About these ads © ToffeeWeb
