Disclaimer Dave Abrahams 1 Posted 12/02/2022 at 20:08:16 Watching two games tonight on replay and two penalty incidents: one Brentford v Crystal Palace and the penalty refused by the ref and then VAR.The next game, Norwich v Man City, penalty given straight away to City.I think if the penalty refused to Palace had happened to City, it would have been given. If the penalty given to City had been at the other end of the field, Norwich wouldn't have been awarded it.There is something absolutely bent about Premier League football and TV has got something to do with it along with money and poor referees under the influence of not necessarily drink. The stench is rotten and the sight is visible to everyone. Michael Kenrick 2 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:20:26 Sounds like I should be watching Spurs - Wolves rather than Toon - Villa.Wolves 2-0 up inside 20 minutes. Jeff Armstrong 3 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:29:43 Burnley V R/S … tough call Any opinions? Leaning to Burnley as I think we'll be ok Brian Murray 4 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:35:43 On a cold day if the shiesters come unstuck it gives a warm fuzzy feeling more than the ready brek adverts but that's on the proviso we are climbing the table and don't have to worry about Burnley etc. Michael Kenrick 5 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:36:20 Another wicked free-kick from Trippier. Danny Baily 6 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:39:26 We're still looking over our shoulder in my opinion, so I'd prefer a loss for Burnley. Hoping Villa can pull off a comeback as well. Barry Hesketh 7 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:40:57 The commentator and Gary Neville trying to convince the watching audience that the Barcodes are a team transformed. Villa are awful and Newcastle only slightly better, but come on Sky be honest and stop this fawning over a very ordinary game of football. Jeff Armstrong 8 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:41:26 Draw it is then, City gain 2 points on the R/S, we gain 2 on Burnley. Dale Self 9 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:51:22 I like Dyche, honorable chap. Fuck the Red Shite for all three. Not a problem, not going down. Dale Self 10 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:53:50 And fuck Spurs as well. UTFT! Tony Hill 11 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:55:46 That fella at Wolves is doing an excellent job. They've got an outside shout for top 4. Of course, we're playing them in a few weeks. Rob Halligan 12 Posted 13/02/2022 at 14:56:00 Barry # 7. If we'd have played like we did yesterday against the skunks, we would have steamrolled them. Obviously with yesterdays team as well, except maybe Demarai Gray for Iwobi, but couldn't fault Iwobi at all yesterday. Still waiting to see a positive post from Colin about him. Has Colin posted anything about Iwobi, as I've not seen one? Jeff Armstrong 13 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:18:31 Rob, Colin went full Arsene Wenger, he didn't see it. Joe McMahon 14 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:20:54 Jeff, I just spat my drink out, Brilliant! Michael Lynch 15 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:27:30 Very marginal offside against Villa there. I'd love to see the Saudi Geordies go down Rob Halligan 16 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:27:35 Jeff, 😂😂😂😂 Simon Dalzell 17 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:28:18 Watkins toe nail offside. I thought that sort of thing was finished. Anthony Murphy 18 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:28:18 Fortunate N'castle Simon Dalzell 19 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:28:25 Watkins toe nail offside. I thought that sort of thing was finished. Andrew Ellams 20 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:56:54 How irritating is it that West Ham are 4th and Wolves will catch them if they win their game in hand? It's there for the taking and we keep on shooting ourselves in the foot. Michael Lynch 21 Posted 13/02/2022 at 15:59:13 Gerrard's new manager bounce seems to be losing its effect. Villa look a bit clueless.I reckon the Lampard effect might last longer. Fingers crossed. John Atkins 22 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:02:05 I think we'll finish above Villa; had Frankie been in charge of this team, then no fucking chance they'd have beaten us the other week I'd have taken us winning yesterday and the bottom 3 losing to take the anxiety away. Chris Leyland 23 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:02:11 On Twitter, Villa fans seem to be saying that Digne is slow and defensively weak. Who'd have guessed? John Atkins 24 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:04:32 Chris, If we are all honest, Digne has been poor for a while... and, to me, no loss; it was just the circumstances with Rafa that wound us all up – and handled in true Everton style, very badly. Had Frank got rid of him, then not many would have had much of a gripe. Will Mabon 25 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:06:50 Simon, me too - it's pathetic. Trying to control football to three decimal places. Mike Gaynes 26 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:14:30 When Digne was suspended by Rafa, Godfrey played his position next game, and played it better than Digne had played it at any time this season.Jonjoe Kenny played left-back yesterday better than Digne played it at any time this season. We sold him at top value, and we'll know in a year if the two players we bought will be long-term contributors, but I'm convinced it was the right thing to do. Mike Gaynes 27 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:27:39 Tuned in now to Leicester vs Hammers. Should be a fun game. Rob Halligan 28 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:30:59 Kurt Zouma originally named to start for West Ham, then “Became ill†in the warm up! Yeah right... ban him for the rest of the season, the fucking gobshite. Paul Hewitt 29 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:32:59 Looking at the table, I would say Burnley Watford and Norwich look most in danger of going down. But Brentford could also be dragged into it. Joe McMahon 30 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:33:41 Mike & John, I agreed at the time and even more now. Digne has been poor for over 18 months; the correct decision to take £25 million was made. I'm suprised someone as savvy as Gerrard wanted him. Jeff Armstrong 31 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:34:23 Rob don't be so catty, Kurt is just a big soft pussy🱠Dale Self 32 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:49:01 Leicester joins the club. Still hoping Burnley gets a few wins with Wout. Watford, Norwich and Brentford would be my choices if Newcastle continue their form. Shane Corcoran 33 Posted 13/02/2022 at 16:51:35 It would appear that I'm in a very small minority that thinks the whole Zouma incident is way, way out of proportion. Will Mabon 34 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:06:13 Shane, I'd say that's probably a minority. One may have no interest in animals/pets, even dislike or despise them. To cruelly hurt or risk hurting them is something altogether different. And to what end? Pointless animal cruelty is considered in professional circles as a marker of an unbalanced outlook. The incident aside, to then post it, or allow it to be posted for the world to see, oblivious to the consequences, indicates someone of incredible stupidity.I'd normally dismiss the didn't understand excuse by any functioning adult (and the laughably stupid courses and "Education" to correct thinking), but in this case, he might actually be thick enough for that to be possible. Mike Gaynes 35 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:06:36 Rob, that made me laugh out loud!I know what a cat person you are.And you know why I'm not ;-)) Jeff Armstrong 36 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:07:30 Shane, Although abhorrent what Zouma did, I get where you're coming from; after all, didn't Marcos Alonso kill somebody whilst drink-driving? Nobody boos him. Will Mabon 37 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:09:02 Jeff, I think the obvious difference is deliberate, considered intent. Mike Gaynes 38 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:12:18 Joe #30, No, it wasn't 18 months. It was 12. He was outstanding the first few months under Carlo, even earned the captain's armband, and then tore up that ankle in November 2020. When he came back last January he wasn't the same player, and he never was again. The "18-months" was a common commentary around the time he was sold, but it absolutely wasn't true. Neil Copeland 39 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:13:58 Jeff #36, We are a nation of animal lovers; good job it wasn't a fox or he would have been assassinated by now. Mike Gaynes 40 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:16:05 Will #37, drunk driving 70 in a 30 zone is the definition of deliberate intent. It requires multiple bad decisions over a period of time. It's a lot more deliberate than kicking a cat. Paul Smith 41 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:16:11 Kicking a small cat around your kitchen and putting it on social media is a piss-take. Maybe Zouma should be vollied round the changies by his team mates and have it posted on Instagram. Prick! And yes, I have two beautiful cats. Will Mabon 42 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:17:43 Neil, please don't add in the difficult factor of hypocrisy. :) Rob Halligan 43 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:23:45 Mike, we no longer have our cats unfortunately. I always said though, that if anyone ever so much as laid a finger on ours, I would not be held responsible for my actions. I would do to anyone what Zouma did to his, hopefully using their head as a football. Neil Copeland 44 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:24:01 Will #42 😬Paul #41, seems like a very appropriate punishment to me.Like others, I am astounded firstly by his actions and secondly that it was posted on social media. He must have some serious psychological issues IMO. The RSPCA taking his cats away is a good step but surely he will face some sort of criminal charge? Shane Corcoran 45 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:24:56 Will, I obviously don't agree with what he did but horses are whipped for sport every day of the week in these isles. I have two cats and spoil them rotten by the way. Football fans booing him. The same ones that verbally abuse human beings from the safety of the stand every week. Will Mabon 46 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:27:21 Mike, no it isn't. Drink driving might be a stupid or deliberate attempt to knowingly drive whilst impaired (as you actually say, bad decisions). It isn't a premeditated decision to deliberately harm (or murder).Kicking/slapping a cat for entertainment after chasing it down in an ostensibly normal mental state, is deliberate. The difference is intent.I'm obviously not commenting on the magnitude of the outcome here. Mike Gaynes 47 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:30:47 I'm sorry for your losses, Rob. Believe it or not, I was a cat lover as a kid before the allergies kicked in. Your projected reaction would be more than understandable. When an unleashed big dog went after my boy Rambo The Flying Pomeranian, I went after the dog first, then the owner. Rambo passed seven years ago. In about an hour, it will be the first time we're going to meet a puppy that could be our new family member. Will Mabon 48 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:33:52 Shane, I know. It's the nature of the beast alas. If Gerrard wears the Slippy tag forever, then Zouma is going to have a pretty bad future in that regard. As I said earlier, even if the moral aspect means nothing to him, the guy has to be pretty dumb to share this. Made his social media bed. Neil Copeland 49 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:35:53 Mike #47, I had a similar experience when another dog attacked and bit my Springer (Max), I dragged him off and gave the owner hell. Max was fine but that's not the point.Good to hear that you are getting another dog, don't know what I would do without mine. Will Mabon 50 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:39:33 Mike, seven years is a big gap to be without one. Good luck! Mike Gaynes 51 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:39:44 Will, swallowing those drinks is a premeditated decision -- you have plenty of time not to. Getting behind the wheel while polluted is a premeditated decision -- you have plenty of time not to. Putting people in your car and then putting that two-ton missile in motion at more than twice the speed limit on a wet street... all premeditated, deliberate decisions. What Zouma did was despicable. What Alonso did was, yes, murder. Whether murder was the intent is irrelevant in my opinion. But I'm kind of old-fashioned when it comes to things like criminality and responsibility. I accept that others are more liberal about the topic. Rob Halligan 52 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:49:06 Mike, We lost our last cat 3 years ago. He had to be put down due to having lymphoma. Was absolutely heart destroying watching something that was part of your family for the best part of 16 years be put to sleep. To actually watch something that Zouma did just makes my blood boil. Anyway, we've now got an absolutely gorgeous dog and, as I said earlier, god help anyone or anything that harms him. Mike Gaynes 53 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:50:06 Will and Neil, thanks. We mourned Rambo a looooong time. Mike Gaynes 54 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:50:46 That's a lovely goal. Will Mabon 55 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:51:05 Mike, yes, everything you list is a deliberate decision (albeit in a distorted mental capacity for decision making - which is not to excuse it, but acknowledge it).Absent a follow-on of deliberately using the vehicle as a weapon and targetting someone for harm, it is not a deliberate attempt to harm. You just exactly framed it. You've considered the outcome and not the intent; exactly the point I was making. The liberal thing is very unnecessary and rather silly. Will Mabon 56 Posted 13/02/2022 at 17:53:22 Mike - as to the dog thing, just below three years was my longest without. Go get it! Peter Neilson 57 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:20:58 Ah well... Zouma will learn once West Ham have the animal training from the RSPCA. Done nothing for Moyes's credibility spouting such crap. When in a hole, stop digging. Simon Dalzell 58 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:25:27 West Ham. Hand ball surely by Dawson. John Atkins 59 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:26:55 5 points behind Leicester and we have to play them at home... doesn't seem that bad tonight. Will Mabon 60 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:28:11 Simon, I think that one falls in the current "T-shirt" area definition (I know). Simon Dalzell 61 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:33:25 Crazy, Will. I've just seen it again and that's handball! Dale Self 62 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:38:48 The unliberal position is untenable. Those who think celebrity types should be able to say what they want are wishing Zouma to be unburdened by some feedback from the stands. He did something reprehensible and posted it in public and you want the public to what? Tsk, tsk him? Give him a flower (Arthur Brown tune)? I had a black Manx we saved after getting hit by a car. Most love-filled animal I've ever spent time with. Zouma needs to do some serious PR rehab or expect some vitriolic venting even while he's nowhere near the ball. How it is. Oh yeah, I'm okay with Leicester City settling for a point at home. Will Mabon 63 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:57:57 Simon, maybe in the future it will be again, after the next jiggle of the rules. Can't understand what was so hard about any part of the arm or hand. The lateral shoulder/delt area is part of the arm, it moves with the arm. Dave Abrahams 64 Posted 13/02/2022 at 18:57:58 Hearing about animals and how they are treated reminded me of a story I heard about 3 or 4years ago. This lad and his younger brother got into a confrontation with a man and, after a few words between them, the man said "I've had enough. I'm getting my dog, he'll sort you out!" and got his Alsatian from the house. The older brother wasn't bothered but the younger brother ran home and told his dad what was happening, telling him, “This fella is setting his dog on our XXXXâ€. His dad said “ God help the dog, XXXX will destroy it.†I think it all ended okay with the fella taking his dog back in when the older brother never flinched from the dog, and the fella had to get a bag to clear up the dog's mess.I heard about this story when the older brother passed away and this was one of the many stories told about him. Barry Rathbone 65 Posted 13/02/2022 at 19:10:38 I won't put up with bullying of any sort and abusing animals, racism, wife beating etc all boil down to bullying. Zouma needs banning from football for a year and shipped out to the RSPCA as a volunteer then he might be rehabilitated back into the game. Absolutely disgusting what he did. Danny O’Neill 66 Posted 13/02/2022 at 19:25:44 Yes, 5 points behind Leicester with them to play.5 points behind Villa; game in hand.3 games in hand on Brentford. 2 on Palace. On our way to the Quarter Final and one step from Wembley. We'll be fine.Talking of pets, I deplore that mentality, Dave; setting dogs on people. It just gets the dog into trouble. Responsibility comes with ownig dogs, even though I put mine through Everton hell!!My Ridgebacks have always been quiet, sociable and calm. But protective.I always describe it as you might get in, but I don't fancy your chances of getting out!! But you enter their space and they protect the family uninvited at your own risk. Andy Crooks 67 Posted 13/02/2022 at 19:28:33 Shane, horses aren't whipped for sport. Used to be and it was appalling but they are used today for reasons of safety and absolutely never to hurt a horse. I have an interest in some horses and, if what you said was true, I wouldn't have.Zouma's treatment of his cat says a lot about him and the comfort he has with inflicting cruelty. He did it for pleasure and that is sinister. Shane Corcoran 68 Posted 13/02/2022 at 20:33:47 Andy, jockeys don't whip horses? Rob Halligan 69 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:24:51 Seeing as there is one final game in game week 25, Man Utd v Brighton, which is currently 0-0, is anyone watching Man City away at sporting Lisbon in the Champions League? Have to say, City have looked mightily impressive, 5-0 up after 65 minutes and have scored some spectacular goals. They must surely be favourites to finally lift the Champions League this season. Will Mabon 70 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:31:04 Now and then, just to remind, there is an example of big team luck, how things "Run" for them, and we just saw that at Old Trafford. Michael Kenrick 71 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:31:41 1-0 to Man Utd, excellent goal from Ronaldo, but then a classic VAR turnover to favour the Reds. Webster was easily covering but VAR says Dunk's foul on Fred was denying a goalscoring opportunity. Ref was initially brave in the face of intimidation from the Man Utd players, for which Bruno Fernandes was booked. That was before VAR persuaded the ref to change his mind on Dunk, and show him red. Atrocious. The game has become so fucked up by this VAR nonsense. I'm beginning to hate it. Especially those offside decisions. Will Mabon 72 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:33:57 Michael - we both saw the same. Brian Williams 73 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:36:19 Rob #69.Rob, I'm watching City and it's poetry in motion at times. It's quite obvious to me that Pep has watched us at the weekend and told his team to go out and play the same way. 🤯 Will Mabon 74 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:41:21 Brian, not watching that game but I like your post.I tell you what, we have been pretty good at the wasting money game, but Man Utd? Maguire and Sancho at how much the pair? Don Alexander 75 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:48:53 Brian (#73), surely Pep phoned Kenwright to ask him "how Everton did that"?!! Mike Gaynes 76 Posted 15/02/2022 at 21:50:44 Brian, hee-hee, you're a funny guy.But yeah, City is poetry. The ultimate in artistry. Two of those goals have been absolutely world class. And what a gamewinner by Mbappe in Paris. Dale Self 77 Posted 16/02/2022 at 21:01:19 Inter hanging in. Lautauro sent one off the crossbar early. Could be interesting.
