One of those balls in from a free-kick, Craig Dawson's head met the trajectory of the ball at exactly the right coordinates in the space-time continuum. Same question as last week to Danny O'Neill. Exactly what did the Newcastle players do wrong? What could they have done better to prevent that goal? Michael Kenrick 2 Posted 19/02/2022 at 13:19:20 I see Zouma the cat-kicker has been selected to play again by David Moyes... but no boos this week. Is he no longer an awful person? Has he been granted redemption though the hefty fine and having his cats taken away? And have the RSPCA now relented and given him his cats back? [Just curious how quickly social media angst evaporates.] Nicholas Ryan 3 Posted 19/02/2022 at 13:24:58 Michael, that's definitely the first, and almost certainly the last time, that the words 'Craig Dawson' and 'space time continuum' will appear in the same sentence! Brian Murray 4 Posted 19/02/2022 at 13:44:34 Michael post 2, well the opposing fans are only 3 thousand geordies and they can probably relate to Zouma with their horse sparring days Will Mabon 5 Posted 19/02/2022 at 13:53:00 Michael, might be an aberration. He definitely hasn't heard the last of it, I'd be certain. Brian Williams 6 Posted 19/02/2022 at 13:59:03 Michael you need to turn the volume up because Zouma's been booed on every touch so far and we're into the 65th minute. Paul Swan 7 Posted 19/02/2022 at 14:05:39 Zouma will eventually put all this behind him but don't ask meow Brian Murray 8 Posted 19/02/2022 at 14:11:11 Anyway enough of Zouma I'm listening to Cataronia Will Mabon 9 Posted 19/02/2022 at 14:13:48 Paul, they've put a claws in his contract. Nicholas Ryan 10 Posted 19/02/2022 at 14:15:13 Zouma receiving cat-calls from the crowd. Dale Self 11 Posted 19/02/2022 at 14:15:21 Paul, perhaps Zouma can request a time off claws in his contract. Will Mabon 12 Posted 19/02/2022 at 14:21:59 Moyes told him to put it behind him and play with purrpose. Mike Hughes 13 Posted 19/02/2022 at 15:21:13 I heard he told him to stop pussy-footing about.(Btw - I hope Zouma gets banned from keeping any pet. And prosecuted. Gobshite.) Bill Gall 14 Posted 19/02/2022 at 18:09:56 Watching Tottenham against Man City... is this a different league than the one we play in? Will Mabon 15 Posted 19/02/2022 at 18:10:54 Bill, no. A different world. Bill Gall 16 Posted 19/02/2022 at 18:48:53 Tottenham go ahead Kane scores. Barry Hesketh 17 Posted 19/02/2022 at 18:54:26 Bill @16I remember a time - not that long ago - when Spurs leading at Man City would mean something to us as Evertonians, but we are so far away from the top table any game that doesn't involve the bottom six is irrelevant to us, more's the pity. Kevin Naylor 18 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:01:02 Nightmare scenario starting to unfold: Liverpool catch Man City and you know the rest. Brian Denton 19 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:04:25 Not quite, Barry. We do have reason to hope that Man City win. John Keating 20 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:15:51 What a shit day this is turning out to be at the top and bottom of the table. Michael Kenrick 21 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:22:31 Mahrez tries to do a Calvert-Lewin but fails miserably and puts his spot shot under the bar. Michael Kenrick 22 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:23:27 But Kane does it again! Anthony Murphy 23 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:25:10 A day we'll be reflecting on at the end of the season. Barry Hesketh 24 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:26:33 Brian @19,That result makes it doubly harder for Everton in their next two games, but I guess I understand what you're alluding to. To be honest, the other lot can win what they want, providing Everton remain in the top-flight. Nothing would be worse for our club than relegation – and that includes a clean sweep of trophies for our neighbours. John Keating 25 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:31:47 Jesus it was going to be hard next week but they'll be really determined to put tonight's result right. Barry Rathbone 26 Posted 19/02/2022 at 19:32:28 Man City choking again so Monkey Island can snatch the title. How utterly predictable. Barry Hesketh 27 Posted 19/02/2022 at 21:52:50 Stan Collymore managed to make me smile with this Tweet. "Craig Dawson complained to the referee during the game between West Ham and Newcastle because Chris Wood kept on saying "meeeow" to Kurt Zuma." Dale Self 28 Posted 20/02/2022 at 14:03:37 Suck it, Leeds! Ricky Oak 29 Posted 20/02/2022 at 14:17:20 How on earth has McTominay not been yellowed? Two major fouls, no card. This is what's so corrupt about officials. How is what Allan did yesterday worse than what's just happened to Koch? Dale Self 30 Posted 20/02/2022 at 14:36:17 I'll take it. Blockhead from a corner. 0-1 Man Utd. Brian Murray 32 Posted 20/02/2022 at 14:41:51 Leeds still have two big players to come back in Phillips and Bamford so we can't rely on them to implode completely. Burnley have been there and done it in a dogfight. Getting scary all this. Dale Self 33 Posted 20/02/2022 at 14:52:53 0-2 other red shite. Leeds and Brentford will ease our pain. Barry Hesketh 34 Posted 20/02/2022 at 14:54:02 Brian @32We don't know whether Leeds are imploding right now do we? Everton also have important players missing too, perhaps not of the quality of Bamford and Phillips but, if Leeds lose today and again in midweek, that'll surely be in Everton's favour to have another rival on less points than games played? Rob Halligan 35 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:01:07 Brian # 32. I think Bamford may well be out for the season. He's got a foot injury which usually means a metatarsal injury. He's only played 458 minutes all season, so I doubt very much, should he play again this season, he will come back firing on all cylinders. Those two goals by Man Utd were too easy. For fuck's sake, Lindelof, a centre-half, picks the ball up and just strolls through the Leeds midfield in the build up for the second goal. Brian Murray 36 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:03:27 Barry. I know. We are grasping at anything at the moment – that's why I, like many, have been banging the drum for Dobbin and Onyango to be given a proper go. I remember a young Jeffers helped save us... so time to be brave, maybe? Ray Roche 37 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:16:58 1-2 !!!! Neil Copeland 38 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:18:13 2-2!! Michael Kenrick 39 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:18:42 Leeds down and out, 2-0 down...Rodrigo and then Rahinia inside a minute! 2-2 Barry Hesketh 40 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:18:46 Sake .... perhaps Leeds aren't imploding after all! Brian Murray 41 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:19:08 Jeez, game on at Elland Road. At least one of the teams around or below us will string a few. We can't go two games before a collapse. Ray Roche 42 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:19:12 2-2 😳 Robert Tressell 43 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:20:08 I can see the sense in putting Onyango in the midfield for away games in particular. He's big, mobile and will make the opposition work. I think Holgate could do a similar job. That will help Allan and Van de Beek who just couldn't cope as a duo yesterday.I don't want to see Gomes in an Everton shirt again. He should be returned to Portugal for a nominal fee in summer. Soren Moyer 44 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:24:07 Looking at Man Utd and how they're playing, I can see us beating them at Goodison Park with a half decent performance. Just don't play Gomes, Iwobi and Coleman (sorry, Seamus). Joe McMahon 45 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:25:46 For fuck's sake, now Leeds are doing what we never do. I can't help thinking about lost points at the beginning of the season. And no, it wasn't Rafa. Calvert-Lewin not taking chances in draw at Leeds and Tom Davies not shooting at Old Trafford, he passed to Mina who was offside. 4 points lost. Bill Gall 46 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:30:05 Lampard should make Everton players watch this game between Leeds and Man Utd and show what it means to fight for your shirt. Neil Copeland 47 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:33:18 2-3 😠Eddie Dunn 48 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:35:07 Looks like Elanga was hit by a coin. Colin Hughes 49 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:47:16 Hope Leeds show this much fight and aggression on Wednesday night against the shite. Fergie was right about them in 1996. John Keating 50 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:53:04 Thank God!Terrible when you spend more time looking at other scores than our own. Barry Hesketh 51 Posted 20/02/2022 at 15:56:03 John @50,Only when it's at the wrong end of the table, but when Everton lose, any loss to any of the sides around us is more than welcome, although a draw during the week for Leeds wouldn't hurt me too much. Tony Abrahams 53 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:04:08 I thought Man Utd were very good today, although I only watched the second half. I was also thinking that Everton could do a lot worse than have Adam Forshaw in our midfield right now. Bill Gall 54 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:05:45 To be honest, I don't care what the other lot do, the sad thing is I am more interested in the teams around us losing by heavy scores as it may come down to goal difference. I just hope that Lampard and his staff can get more fight in our bunch of misfits. Rob Halligan 55 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:07:26 Next weekend, we have a real conundrum on our hands. Before we play Man City, Brentford are at home to Newcastle. So what's the best result? If Brentford win, they go 5 points clear, but we've got four games in hand (before we play Man City) while keeping Newcastle below us. If it's a draw, Brentford are only 3 points clear, but Newcastle jump above us. If Newcastle win, we are only 2 points behind Brentford with those games in hand, and Newcastle go 3 points clear, but we will have 2 games on them.If Leeds lose to Liverpool in midweek, we will be 1 point behind them but with two games in hand. For fuck's sake, why am I even thinking like this? ☹ï¸â˜¹ï¸ Barry Hesketh 56 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:12:33 Rob @55,Between Brentford and Newcastle, the likelier team to be relegated is the Bees. However, it's never good trying to work out what result is best for us, as the only result Everton have control over is the game in which they play. Everton beat Man City and the other results don't have the same importance, but facing that wounded City side isn't what we would have wished for next week. Dave Abrahams 57 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:13:20 Robert (43), have you seen Onyango? The lad hardly stands out in his own age group except for his size. I doubt very much he is anywhere ready to play in the first team. Dobbin, yes, I can understand the shout for him coming on from the bench; his pace could cause damage in the last 20 to 30 minutes of games, especially at Goodison Park. The midfield has to have three in it and has done for the last 10 games home and away. Playing two has been exposed game after game and has cost us valuable points. Tony Abrahams 58 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:15:15 I still hope Leeds beat Liverpool, Rob, especially because I don't think Everton will lose against Man City next Saturday night. Rob Halligan 59 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:17:27 Barry, yes I know. We just need to look after ourselves, but as John #50 says, we start looking at other teams' results and hoping what we want goes our way. Anyway, in answer to my question, a draw is probably the best result. Or maybe a Brentford win, but a Newc… ah shit, forget it! Don Wright 60 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:18:23 Bloody hell, Rob... feels like an episode of SOAP. Pete Clarke 61 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:32:47 There are a lot of games coming up between the teams at the bottom so, one way or another, points will be gained and the distance closed on us if we don't get something ourselves. Even our run-in only has 3 games that we should win but, in this unpredictable form of ours, we cannot wait for those games and we need to fight like the Dogs of War, starting against Man City next week. I don't know how Frankie is going to do it but I reckon he is shocked at just how poor some of our players can be. Our fate is in his hands right now and it's a shame that he's inherited this cowardly bunch of players that are not fit to have laced his boots. He is only young and learning his trade but he has to sit down with his staff and players then come up with a formula that is more about fight than playing football and good tactics over technique. Can any of us imagine sitting in front of the likes of Michael Keane, André Gomes, Alex Iwobi etc and telling them we must fight for every ball? I could only imagine that those players would be shitting themselves with the thought of our next few games. Dale Self 62 Posted 20/02/2022 at 16:37:15 As much as I am against any outcome that produces points for Newcastle, the continued slide of Brentford is too much to pass up. While Thomas Frank looks good going up he seems to be a tight one and could fail to deflect some pressure from the team. And I still hate Brenda. Suck it, Leicester Soren Moyer 63 Posted 20/02/2022 at 17:57:06 I'm sure Daniel Podence will also end up at Mordor! Brian Harrison 64 Posted 21/02/2022 at 11:10:50 I just read a really interesting piece in the Liverpool Echo where they say that Man City are looking to embrace the power of the Metaverse (I don't understand how this works) by constructing the world's first virtual football stadium.Man City have agreed a deal with Sony to create this which they believe will create another lucrative money stream. Obviously this is a club who are very much embracing new technology to make them even more powerful, not to mention the extra revenue it will create. I just wonder is this their way of circumventing any new Sky deal, which maybe they wont sign up to, which would have a detrimental effect to the amount that clubs like us will get under a new deal? And, as sure as night follows day, if it looks a new lucrative way for the top clubs to make money, you can bet that both Man Utd and Liverpool – with bigger world fan bases than City – will be following suit.City produced their accounts last month which, for the first time, they became the first Premier League club to produce a bigger turnover than Man Utd: their turnover for the year which was greatly affected by Covid was £598.8 million. Brian Murray 65 Posted 21/02/2022 at 11:34:23 Dave @57. So Onyango is not the answer either. I know it sounds desperate (I am) but the midfield needs something different. A fit and mobile Gbamin is not going to happen. El Ghazi seems to have been written off already. A midfield who got double figures last season. Never seen a blue-shirted one do that for a good while... Dave Abrahams 66 Posted 21/02/2022 at 12:07:08 Brian (65), Re Onyango, that is just my opinion after watching him since he was 16in quite a few games. As for El Ghazi, he was offered to Benitez three times; he didn't want him. He's not rated by many Villa fans, looks lightweight in the work area, tackling etc. He scored a great goal for Villa versus Everton at Goodison last season to secure Villa's win. If he scored that many goals for Villa last season, then three or four goals for us might see us collect a very valuable few points; beggars can't be choosers in these desperate times. Barry Hesketh 67 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:04:59 Just seen the TV liistings for Saturday and saw that Howard Kendall's first League game as manager at Goodison versus Birmingham City is the featured game in 'Match Time Revisted' on ITV4 at 11:35am. Mike Gaynes 68 Posted 22/02/2022 at 21:22:16 Off-topic, but a great goal by that skinny little Yank in the Champions League. Simon Dalzell 70 Posted 23/02/2022 at 22:52:57 Barry (67) Thanks for that info. I enjoyed seeing us the other on the same program in a 70's game that we won I think 2-1. ( I'm trying to remember the opposition ! 1977 I think ) I'll set the 'record now'. Great memories from my early teens when I was really getting in to the mighty blues.
