Everton inquire about Man United's Pereira

| Friday, 22 November 2024 29comments  |  Jump to last
Everton have made an approach to sign Andreas Pereira from Manchester United according to sources.

According to Sky and Guardian contributor Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are among a number of clubs tracking the Belgium-born midfielder but would prefer to take him on loan.

United would rather sell the 25-year-old which could prove to be a stumbling block for Everton unless they can offload players beforehand.

He's done well on loan at Valencia and Lazio. With Gylfi unavailable there is space to fill. Season long loan, why not.

Can't say I know much about this guy but I would rather have the other Pereira from West Brom. Still, any new additions have got to be a bonus, or are they ?

As Derek says of those pair of Pereiras, West Brom's Mateus was the one. However, He's been sold to Al Hilal in Saudi for £20M last week, an unusual career move that looks purely financially motivated. Makes me question his character.

His stats with Lazio last season don't look too impressive for an attacking midfielder: 33 games, 1 goal, 2 assists. (In the Gomes ball park!) Lazio didn't want to make the loan permanent?

A loan deal with an option to but rather than an obligation may make some sense. But we are crying out for more goals and assists from midfield than that and the stats point to this player not being the answer. Maybe Brands has seen a spark that can be developed?

Tony " Maybe Brands has seen a spark that can be developed ?"

Like the other gems he has unearthed, Iwobi, Gomes et al ?

He only started 3 games at Lazio, would be a very strange signing and I would rather see the likes of Whittaker, Hughes and Price from the U23s given minutes.

Derek, I'd give Brands a 4 out of 10 mark for his record as DoF. He's been a huge, imo, disappointment so far.

Sam Hoare, quite agree with you. I don't see the point of having these youngsters and not using them.

I would prefer the WBA Pereira. He would be a good asset for us.

Having money can make you lazy, was one of the first phrases impressively uttered by Marcel Brands, as we struggle to get players out of our club, because of the incredible amounts of money they are now receiving from Everton.

Tidy player and enthusiastic when watched on MotD. Just needs help on hitting the target – the big gapping flaw in his game. The only flaw. Otherwise if he could finish more often and get 15 a year, he could be a wannabe Iniesta. Maybe if he drinks the same stuff Calvert-Lewin had last season and the goals flow, then there's a player there.

No thanks.

I think signing Lingard would make more sense. A more complete player and offers us something different.

But surely there is better and cheaper alternatives. Can Brands not find a good cheap Dutch player, surely during his time at PSV he must have had some insight and connections.

Ps doesn't have to be Dutch, but I suppose thats the obvious link from his past experience.

Bissouma from Brighton would be a decent acquisition in the centre of the park.

Mega engine, long shooter, destroyer, ball carrier, eye for a pass.

Forget this guy - go for Lorenzo Pellegrini from Roma. 25 years of age and Roma's Captain. His contract is up next summer. He plays centre midfield but can also play AM and DM. Was in Italy's squad for Euros but got injured just before tournament started. He played 47 times for Roma last season and scored 11 goals from midfield !!!

At 25 and a fee that shouldn't break the bank as he's in final year of his contract, this is the type of player we should be going for.

Sam@5, good shouts for the youngsters mentioned, the one I have high hopes for is Lewis Warrington, if he can carry on making progress, he could be the one.

I have been impressed with him so far.

Sam (5) - Pereira is ready to come straight in to our midfield and can provide assists and goals; Price (who as you know I do not really rate), Whittaker and Hughes are just not ready to do that consistently. We really need creative players who can hit the ground running, and while Pereira might not be that player I think relying on youngsters to potentially fill the boots of James and our mystery missing man is wishful thinking in the extreme.

This would be a decent signing... bags of talent.

Andrew@15 in case it wasn't clear I'm not suggesting that any of those lads are gonna be starting matches but that they could help their development by picking up a few minutes here or there as I don't see much evidence in his history that Pereira could hit the ground running and be relied upon to provide assists and goals.

If James does go then we may well need a new creative player (though Iwobi and Gray were both impressive at times yesterday) but I've not seen enough to convince me Pereira could fill those boots.

Sam (18),

Sorry but I just can't see any of those 3 players you named being ready to make a significant contribution this year. But yes, what we don't need is another Josh King scenario – a player brought in with the hope of them being able to contribute and then getting little more than a few 10-minute sub appearances because they're not up to anything more.

But I think Pereira is capable of starting games for us – and might be a decent stopgap, particularly as we look at ways to be competitive this season without spending much money.

Sam Hoare
19 Posted 15/08/2021 at 22:45:53
Yeah, I'm not expecting any of those 3 to be relied upon to dig us out of holes or anything. More a case of some minutes here or there to benefit them (and us) in the long run. And presuming James stays (which I think more likely).

If James goes and we're in need of a starting ‘10' then I'm not sure Pereira is the one; he's done very little since his loan to Granada a few years back. But maybe if he'a cheap it could work stopgap style as you say, with priorities elsewhere.

I really hope that we don't buy another Man United bad buy allowing them to recoup money otherwise wasted. The days of us shopping in the Man United "not so bargain basement" should cease if we have any real ambition.

A few places saying that he wants to go back to Flamengo in Brazil, the deal is on loan with an option to buy. There will be one or two other players we will be considering and hopefully there will be one or two signings in the last few days of the window. Buyers don't want to show their hand just yet and leave time for agents to create an auction.

Due to Covid losses last season I can see there being a massive deadline day in loans and a fire sale of expensive squad players here and in Spain and Italy. I expect we hope to be heavily involved with ins and outs. We need a midfield dynamo, a back up striker if/when Kean goes and someone to push Seamus if JJK is not seen to be good enough. And hope Digne doesn't get crocked. Will anyone seriously come in for the likes of Delph, Gomes, Iwobi, Kean or even James considering the wedge they are on?

No. No. No.

Why don't we hear more of forwards or rightbacks. We already have up to no good midfielders,

Oh good. Another Man Utd midfield reject. He can go alongside Schniederlin, Gibson, Blomqvist...

Two goals in forty five appearances for United hardly suggests he is an obvious solution to our lack of goals from midfield.

Lingard would be a better option.
Tony Everan

Mal 26,

There are some rumours about Lingard as he is entering the final year of his contract. Maybe this is a possibility if James gets his move. He impressed and surprised me at West Ham: sharp fitness-wise, quick thinking and quick feet, goals and assists. He would add something different to us as an attacking midfielder.

If James goes he is a player who could give us this diversity we need in certain games and at certain times, he will give us more goals and attacking options. Man Utd are after £20M but I can't see us paying anywhere near that, especially when he is free in 9 months time.

It's not just Marcel Brands that is to blame for all the poor signings ( or lack of ). Our scouting network is terrible. We never unearth a gem of a player.
