Everton show interest in Celtic's Edouard

| Friday, 22 November 2024 33comments  |  Jump to last
Everton have inquired about the availability of Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has been the subject of plenty of speculation this summer, with a move to the Premier League mooted and the likes of Crystal Palace credited with interest.

Sky's resident rumour-monger, Kaveh Solhekol, tweeted today that tje Blues have "sounded" Celtic out over a possible deal.

Earlier in the day, Solhekol claimed that Rubin Kazan have offered €18m for Edouard while Bordeaux are also willing to pay the same amount.

One for Paul Tran, but if he comes, alongside Diaz, I wonder if Richarlison might just be on his way?

Prefer the Rangers striker.

If true and this is a serious approach, well then all bets are off in relation to other reported players of interest.

Agree Tony. If he comes and also Diaz, it would mean Richarlison is off now or in January for sure.

Moise Kean and James, out! Luis Diaz, Edouard and Patterson, in!

Don't see why people are concluding Richarlison will be sold. Edouard will cost £9-10M with 12 months left on his contract. Kean will fetch around £30M from Juventus which can be doubled into £60M for FFP purposes.

This is one that I like the look of. The guy is ready to make the step up and could be a real talent.

I see that Sky are reporting we are interested in Edouard from my Celtic who is in the last year of his contract.

If we managed to pull off Eduard, Diaz and the Rangers right-back with Kean and James going then we have had a superb window.

I honestly don't fear Richarlison going at all this window unless a huge bid comes in.

Agree with #10. Edouard would be a good signing for us, and worth getting rid of a few to finance the deal. Rafa and Brands could come up with some decent deals in the next few days.

Paul #4, are you referring to Morelos? Up there with El Hadji Diouf as one of the most detestable players I've seen.

Edouard was good two years ago but seems to have downed tools since.

I like Edouard. A striker who can create and score. On a good day he'd be very effective just behind DCL.

Offer them £10m plus Kenny and Delph, who would do well up there.

Sam? Kenny and Delph plus ten million for Edouard. I suspect you are having a laugh. Every single part of that sentence is so utterly wrong that only fairy dust can save it. Sprinkle it where you see fit.

Andy, his contract is up in a year and no sign of him extending so Celtic may have to take what they can get.

I don't understand why so many Evertonians are resigned to losing Richarlison? My firm belief is that he will be with Everton until the end of the season at least, and Moshiri may consider selling him if a monster bid comes in next summer.

I don't know much about this guy (Edouard), but many on TW seem to rate him, so that will do for me. Edouard, Patterson and Diaz would be a brilliant end to the transfer window, and I would feel genuine optimism for this season.

Hopefully that goes with getting rid of Tosun and Delph and decent transfer fees for James and Kean and Kenny.

Everton's potential squad for the season:

GK: Pickford, Begovic, Lonergan
RB: Coleman, Patterson (or Maitland-Niles)
LB: Digne, Nkounkou
CB: Mina, Keane, Godfrey, Holgate, Branthwaite
MF: Doucoure, Allan, Davies, Gomes, Gbamin
Forwards: Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, Iwobi, Gray, Townsend, Diaz, Edouard

Not a world beating squad, but decent enough to give Rafa the tools to work with this season and be competitive with the likes of Aston Villa, Leicester, West Ham, Spurs, Arsenal, etc.

Agree with Paul #4, I would love a front two of this bloke and mad Morelos. I love Dom like but always feel that he's too nice & centre-backs can easily play him at times & his shooting is poor too.

I can't keep up with the transfer rumours... jeez, it's going to be very interesting come deadline day, that's for sure.

Feeling positive though, we could have finally a half-decent Blues team emerging!

Agree with Shane (#12), Edouard is the better option. Morelos is similar to Suarez, not in football terms, a thug.

Speaking of Suarez, wouldn't mind the Colombian (theme emerging here) one who plays for Grenada. Beast.

Morelos is not a good player. He is lazy and unfit. He scores goals against mediocre defenses in Scotland, but would be badly found out in a league such as the English PL. It's possible I'm just biased as an Aberdeen fan, but he hasn't endeared himself to most of Scotland. There was an amusing story about him in the papers, where he came home from training one day, and found someone under his car messing with it. The guy ran away before he could be caught. Morelos made a big stink about it in the papers, and it was assumed to be a Celtic fan cutting his brakes or something like that. Turned out a week or so later that it was a private detective, who'd been hired by his wife to track him, as he'd been cheating on her. Anyway, that's not got anything to do with football, but I can't see myself ever cheering for this guy.

Edouard definitely has the potential to be a really good player, and at times his pace, positioning and finishing make him absolutely unplayable. Unfortunately, he does have a degree of 'can't be arsed' in him occasionally, and there are times when he doesn't show up (not literally). He's young, and with some good coaching could end up being the real deal. I'd be keen if he is seriously being considered.

That's brilliant Michael and a good summary of Edouard. His touch and hold up play is excellent when he's up for it.

As a Celtic man, as much as it pains me to say it, he needs to move.

As a football man, I'd say Celtic and Rangers also need to move Shane. Two of the world's biggest football clubs, have been stagnating for donkeys years, and I'd love to find room for them in the EPL, although I'm aware of how controversial it would also be.

Tony. My birds a jock and I lived in Glasgow for 13 years. All very welcoming until my kids got to their teens and then we got English b scouse c etc. Nah leave em there. I was sick trying to defend our club with Smith as manager made it worse because he was clueless although I ended up being mates with stubbsy when he was at Celtic. Weird eh. The 3 bs as used to call em. Buck fast bigotry and bullishit. Ha ha as you can imagine I didn't write the book how to win friends and influence people. Coyb

Walter Disappointing, wouldn't have been easy to defend Brian, but I remember him fondly from the first ever Everton hall of fame night in the Adelphi.

We had just signed Scott Gemill, and Kevin Campbell, on loan from Forest, and I asked Walter why he'd just gone and signed them? “For fucks sake son, we had to go and do fuckin something” had me shaking my head, but Campbell's goals did keep us in the EPL!

Yes we eternally grateful almost single handed kept us up with his goals. What say you re Ricky ? Stay strong and resist PSG bids etc, Think we have to really.

Not for me. DCL is our main striker and we should supplement the team with another forward, not a central striker which I believe Edouard is.

By having 3/4 forwards it gives the option of rotation and cover with a different style of play. Rather than having a back up for DCL.

What we have in DCL is a player with unbelievable anticipation and heading ability within the 18 yard box. It is absolutely lethal.

Although generally his finishing, particularly in one on one situations can lack quality. If you can put the ball into an area with quality, for him to attack, he is phenomenal and potentially the best in the world.

Tommy, why on earth would we not need cover for our only centre forward when he is already carrying an injury so early into the season?
Tommy Carter
29 Posted 28/08/2021 at 12:27:22
@28 Andrew.

Read my post more carefully. I think we would be better supporting his place with another forward allowing rotational cover.

A direct cover central striker is not going to play. Unless DCL is unavailable and generally, touch wood, he's quite durable.

So when we do need cover in the forward position we can play a forward line of Richarlison, Gray, Kean (if he's still here) and the other forward that I suggest we bring in. Richarlison I also believe can play the central role well, it's what he does for Brazil and certainly what he'll be doing if he goes to PSG.

Personally I'd rather we spent £30m on someone like Damsgaard than Edouard.

Tony (22) The idea of Rangers and Celtic leaving the Scottish league in favour of the EPL is exactly the same as the idea of teams leaving the EPL to form a European Super League. Totally against the spirit of football.

Fair enough, Michael, but I'm not sure I'd agree with that fully though because I don't see any of the greedy twelve stagnating, whereas from the outside looking in, it looks like Scottish football has been stagnating for years.

I know it's not something everyone would agree with, but the two Glasgow teams are absolutely massive football clubs, and not many clubs in world football have bigger fan-bases, but it's a touchy subject which isn't going to happen anyway, Michael.👍

Anyone note that Edouard scored 2 goals for Palace on his debut ???
