Christy Ring 2 Posted 28/06/2025 at 18:01:53 Dave I see Lescott part of his backroom staff. Liam Mogan 3 Posted 28/06/2025 at 18:45:56 The knock out stages of this competition have been excellent. Liam Mogan 4 Posted 28/06/2025 at 18:46:39 And tbf I'd have Harvey Elliott in our team Michael Kenrick 5 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:10:52 Elliott scores again to put England in front after just 5 minutes, following Hutchinson's shot being saved just by the German keeper. Bobby Mallon 6 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:16:35 Liam 4 me to Neil Copeland 7 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:17:17 And me Michael Kenrick 8 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:19:44 Should be 3-0 already! Michael Kenrick 9 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:25:03 Omari Hutchinson!!!I like this kid. A touch of luck shooting through the keeper's legs! Ian Bennett 10 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:31:24 Big fan of Elliot Anderson. At first I dismissed the hype and transfer fee. But he's a good player, sane as gibbs White. Michael Kenrick 11 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:34:56 Some excellent dynamic breaks forward from England so far in this game. None of this piss--arsing about with passes backwards and forward around the bloody houses. Jeff Armstrong 12 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:39:12 Anderson is everywhere Carsley is an excellent coach, we should keep an eye on our former Derby winner.Could be 4-0 up tbh Michael Kenrick 13 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:47:07 Bullet header by Wieper to pull one back. Neil Copeland 14 Posted 28/06/2025 at 20:48:47 Well taken goal but England should be out of sight really. Jack Convery 15 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:06:01 First game I've watched and England are very impressive. Technically, movement, passing, beating the press, way ahead of the Germans. Pity about the German goal, which was a cracking header by the way. Weiper wiping out our two goal advantage just before half time - I'll get me coat. He's at Mainz and his contract is up June 30th 2025, though Mainz have a 1 year option, which I'm sure they will take up now ! Michael Kenrick 16 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:09:45 Germans are going to be really hard to contain based on the early stages of this half. Michael Kenrick 17 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:16:44 Phew... great break by Der Pinkies. Michael Kenrick 18 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:18:57 England players just not protecting the ball enough, losing it too easily. Ian Bennett 19 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:19:36 Been coming and Harvey Elliot has been poor as anyone. Dribbled past like a prime trent...keeper is poor. Jeff Armstrong 20 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:20:09 Joe Hart - the most robotic cliche ridden co-commentator that ever had a mic passed to him.Shit 2-2At one point in the first half Hart said Englands midfielders Anderson and Scott where, and I quote “partners in crime “Wtf?? Michael Kenrick 21 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:20:12 And there it is. Been coming all the second half. Don Wright 22 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:21:53 Yet again, a defender turns his back and cannot attack the ball. Neil Copeland 23 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:25:06 Germanys press working much better in this second half, forcing errors from England that werent there earlier in the game. Jeff Armstrong 24 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:31:36 Hinshelwood proving you dont play right footers as left backs.Cannot cross from the left without checking back onto his right foot Whos Tuchel supporting? Ian Bennett 25 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:37:17 The big German fella is a handful. When he fills out, he will be a big old lump. Not my cup of tea of a player. Quite Fellaini like really. Mark Murphy 26 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:38:03 Beadle got a hand to that.If Beadle had a bigger hand he may have kept that out! Jeff Armstrong 27 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:43:37 Lets have a big hand for Jeremy! Jeff Armstrong 28 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:45:42 Some good German names there, Collins and Brown. Ian Bennett 29 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:47:58 England lost their midfield balance when Scott got injured. Beadle doesn't look top class at all.Hutchison lively on the left. But often poor final ball. Paul Hewitt 30 Posted 28/06/2025 at 21:54:37 Cracking game this. Better than that crappy Club World Cup. Neil Copeland 31 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:00:13 Lovely goal! Jeff Armstrong 32 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:22:18 Woltermade is shite, decent touch, but flatters to deceive. The Premier League would bury him, happy he's going to Bayern. Ian Bennett 33 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:28:48 Jeff, when he ran with the ball, it took 3 to stop him. He's a handful, and he's scoring goals at all levels. Mark Murphy 34 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:29:28 Thats the one, Jeff! Sam Hoare 35 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:33:17 Rocco Reitz has been one of the best midfielders in the competition. Fulham supposedly in talks for around £20M. Would be a bargain at that price. Neil Copeland 36 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:34:35 Well in England and especially Lee Carsley Ian Jones 37 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:35:47 That Lee Carsley, so over rated :) Ian Bennett 38 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:36:48 Pleased Lee won, more pleased that Joe Hart has finished rabbiting monotone. Stuart Sharp 39 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:39:34 Can't agree, Jeff. We had to put 3 men on him whenever he got the ball. Even then his hold up play was good enough to draw several fouls. Leading goalscorer in the tournament. A definite prospect.Great use of subs from Carsley. Brilliant win. Ed Prytherch 40 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:41:20 Good win and great entertainment. Much better to watch than Tuchel ball.We can give the tall German striker a miss. Tommy Carter 41 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:48:48 Tyler Morton and James McAtee. A couple of good players there potentially up for grabs. Jeff Armstrong 42 Posted 28/06/2025 at 22:56:42 I don't think Woltermade would hack it in the Premier League, 2 EPL reserves basically kept him out the game tonight, he ended up coming deep and trying to pull strings from midfield.Yes, decent touch, but I think he would be easily bullied in England, only going on tonight's game. He was a free transfer 12 months ago, let's see how he does at Bayern Munich. Stuart Sharp 44 Posted 28/06/2025 at 23:29:16 I agree he might struggle in the Premier League at the moment. Depends who is around him… But I disagree he's shite. Danny O'Neill 45 Posted 29/06/2025 at 06:54:31 Entertaining match. Littered with mistakes from both sides, but you expect that with young players. Germany hitting the bar near the end of normal and added time, with the keeper beaten.Over the match, I thought Germany looked better and more in control. England were quicker and more decisive on the counter.Hutchinson and Elliott stood out for England. Woltenmade and Nebel for Germany. Nebel is a feisty little shit, but good.On the "German" names, Collins and Brown, you will probably find their fathers were US or UK servicemen, serving in Germany and settled there.Similar to lifelong Evertonian, Lewis Holtby, whose father married a German and remained there after leaving the RAF, where Holtby grew up. Despite his height, which gives the perception he is an out-and-out striker, the more I've watched Woltenmade, I think he's more of a supporting striker. A different type of Number 10 in the modern game. Awkward, a handful for defenders and really good with the ball at his feet. Colin Glassar 46 Posted 29/06/2025 at 07:42:51 I'm chuffed for Lee Carsley. He's built two fine U21, back-to-back, European Championship winning teams. Colin Glassar 47 Posted 29/06/2025 at 07:52:51 I must add, I've never seen an England team so outmatched when it came to heading high balls. I think Jerry won about 90% of all aerial duels. Danny O'Neill 48 Posted 29/06/2025 at 07:54:04 It will be interesting to see what Carsley does over the next couple of years, Colin. He seems to have refrained from wanting to take on a club manager role, and is apparently happy with his England U21 role, which he has done more than very well at.But surely at some point, he will be thinking what else he can achieve and considering next steps?Would he wait for the right club job? Would he wait for the England top job? As good as he's proven himself, I wouldn't wish the latter on him.Only from reading, he strikes me as one of those who is more comfortable coaching, so international football may suit him better. Sam Hoare 49 Posted 29/06/2025 at 07:57:16 So pleased for Carsley. Nice to see an England team playing good football. Future for him as Everton or England manager?Woltemade will have a good career I reckon, unusual to have such a mix of size and skill.Plenty of players I'd love to see at Everton though most will cost £5M more now after that showpiece. Would people prefer McAtee or Hutchinson? The former is the better player I think but the latter plays more on the right and has the pace we are crying out for. Ian Jones 50 Posted 29/06/2025 at 09:41:39 Danny, had forgotten about Lewis Holtby...blast from the past. When I was younger, it always intrigued me why some Argentinian players had British surnames. Learnt the history behind the connection of Brritan and Argentina...can't remember the ones I am thinking about although Ricky Villa springs to mind😀. Mac Allister is the only current one I can think of. There are some Rugby players too.Back on topic. Lee Carsley might just like the job he does, out of the spotlight, just getting on with the job. No fuss, although winning back-to-back trophies will catapult him firmly in to the spotlight. He might not like the constant media intrusion into your whole life that comes with being a PL manager or the England manager where they seem to be asked for their opinions on everything including world affairs. Tony Abrahams 51 Posted 29/06/2025 at 09:52:06 I only watched a bit of the tournament Sam, but I wasnt impressed really impressed with McAtee, until he played inside and then he looked like a really good footballer I liked Hutchinson, I thought Englands fast counter attacking system suited him down to the ground, but Im not sure how he would perform on a regular basis in the physically demanding EPL, and as far the game Danny, yes the Germans were comfortable on the ball, but I thought the English, just had a little bit more speed and aggression, and a little bit more intensity in their attacking play? John Williams 52 Posted 29/06/2025 at 10:27:55 I think Harvey Elliott is a very good player, but not surehe is a 90 minute player and maybe the reason Liverpool have used him, generally as a guy who can come on in the last 30 minutes and change the game.As for Woltemade (if thats the correct spelling), no thanks. We have better players than him,to play CF.McAtee, decent player, but misses to many chances, but not sure what his best position is.Will Everton be able to pick up any of those players, very doubtful. Brian Harrison 53 Posted 29/06/2025 at 10:30:43 A great win for our England U21 team, and how refreshing to see 2 teams playing the game without resorting to what we see week in and week out in the Premier league, with teams constantly passing between the back 4. Both teams got on the ball and passed through midfield and certainly in the first half England dominated with some lovely one touch football. When you compare how Carsleys team plays and Tuchel its like night and day, Carsleys team play aggressively at pace were Tuchels team are slow and ponderous.Maybe when Moyes has stabilised the club and got us into a top half team, maybe Carsley might just be the man to take us to the next level. Also with working with and watching young England players he will have a depth of knowledge that certainly places him above any foreign coaches in that department. Robert Tressell 54 Posted 29/06/2025 at 10:41:25 Well done, Lee Carsley. I suspect the press and powers that be will never accept him as England manager for various reasons. But he's done an excellent job – albeit with a couple of generations of absolutely outstanding academy system graduates. In terms of who might be good for Everton, Hutchison has looked tailor-made for our right flank since he performed so well for Ipswich in the Championship on loan. McAtee has looked like a very good player (albeit someone who will never quite make it at Man City) since his first loan to Sheffield Utd as a teenager 3 years ago.Like almost all of the Premier League quality academy graduates, both have been with the England youth system through the various age groups as teenagers.Given the likely cost of players like Elliot (£40M?), Hutchison (£30M?) and McAtee (£30M?) it seems more logical to hunt for their successors in the U18s and U20s and (as the RS do to good effect) even younger.Players like George and Acheampong will struggle to ever break through at Chelsea despite being excellent. Together, they could transform our right flank. Harry Amass will struggle to breakthrough at Man Utd now they have Dorgu and Leon as very young and expensive new signings for the LB / LWB slot. Simpson-Pusey looks like he has been muscled out of a first team centre-back role at City by their new signings Khusanov and Reis. Lankshear (centre-forward) and Phillips (centre-back) are both northern lads who have expensive signings ahead of them at Spurs and need first team opportunities. In a year or two, all of them could be impressing on a much higher stage. The thing about names that Danny (and others) point out is interesting – and just shows the movement of peoples around Europe and elsewhere over the years. The young lad Nebel who played for the Germans last night qualifies for the Republic of Ireland. He's a good player. With a very dynamic right-back behind him, he might be a good move for the inside right / right wing (ish) position. Sam Hoare 55 Posted 29/06/2025 at 10:47:04 Tony@51, Yes, McAtee is definitely more comfortable playing inside or out wide with a full-back constantly overlapping. Has some great playmaker qualities and will be interesting to see where he ends up.I think Hutchinson could grow into a very capable Premier League winger. But not sure how much Ipswich would want?Lots of players from last night will go on to be regular Champions League players and some will fade into obscurity. It's tough to pick.Elliot at £40M is a great player but overpriced for me. Rocco Reitz at £15-20M is someone we should be looking at. Woltemade could be the next Ibrahimovic or could be the next Tore Andre Flo (decent player mind you). Bobby Mallon 56 Posted 29/06/2025 at 13:50:47 I thought Elliot Anderson was by far the best player last night. He won everything, always looking forward, and just very composed. Raymond Fox 57 Posted 29/06/2025 at 14:26:31 How come we can win this two years together and the U17s World Championship and still have a moderate any age team that have not won anything since 1966???
