The Derek Temple article is a good read.

I served with his son. Big Evertonian. Bitter some would say, but just despises the red cousins!!

Danny,

Yes, I thought Derek Temple gave a very open and honest account of his upbringing and it rings true of the way life was then; surprisingly he supported neither Everton or Liverpool.

Interesting hint in there about the devastating effect of Catterick's decision to sell him in September 1967, when he was 28, and I think he had peaked at that point.

The fee was £35,000 and this was a year after Catterick had lashed out what was a big sum at the time – £110,000, for some little red-headed lad with a strange high-pitched voice...

Derek is now 84, and surely a highly revered member of Gwladys Street's Hall of Fame – whatever happened to that venture? Maybe there's room for Tom Davies among the next batch of inductees...

Lyndon (4),

You've spoiled my day there, Lyndon. I never honestly knew that smug phoney was in the “Hall of Fame”. Who the fuck nominated and picked him?

It just spoils it for everyone else who is on that list. I mean, if he is in Everton's Hall of Fame, then absolutely anyone can be in it.

Thanks a bleedin' bunch, Lyndon!!

I didn't know wether to just leave it blank or actually explain that I'm lost for words...

To the players I remember who are on that list – thanks for the good times, and to The Saviour – then hopefully those good times are finally going to come very soon.

One of my favourite players, possibly because 1965-66 was my first full season watching Everton. Derek scored 6 goals in that FA Cup run, scoring in every round except the semi-final, and I still rate his goal in the final as one of the best strikes of a football I've ever seen.

I've been fortunate to chat with Derek a couple of times, he's a really pleasant, modest man.

A true Everton great.

Thanks for the link, Lyndon.

I was having palpitations as I scrolled down not seeing Kevin Sheedy... but eventually he was there.

Bill Kenwright?

John Bailey and his Everton Top Hat at Wembley with the FA Cup. I didn't know where my Dad was as he was last seen trying to get on the pitch. I wasn't sure how I was getting back to my Auntie's in Battersea.

I didn't care.

When Rats goes up, we'll be there.

Oh dear...

Poked the bear methinks.

I recall the good Dr Everton being questioned back in the day about this Royal Ascent. He seemed to have a good answer for it but I seem to have forgotten what it was.

This needs its own thread, Lyndon. Lol

I can't believe I've just scrolled through that list of ex-Everton footballers and, lo and behold, there he is! Amazed I've not noticed it before tbh. What's he on there for – some good times? What an insult.

Has anyone got Dr David France's contact details? I think he needs to explain what's going on.

Nick (11),

You sound as astounded as me, but I think it is best to leave the good Doctor out of it. He made friends and saw the good side of people and left the rest alone.

Dave,

Thing is, the Hall of Fame was very much the creation of Dr David France and my understanding was that he was involved in selecting the original inductees and making up the lists for subsequent candidates.

In fact, Dave, hate to do this, but we've been down this very same path before: The Return of Gwladys Street's Hall of Fame – and take a look at Post #6!

Michael (13).

Yes, fair enough, you've got me there... but I still can't believe he is in the Hall of Fame and at least I'm consistent with my post on this thread @5 as I was on that one 6 years ago.

By the way, I posted on one thread that I'd argued with David France, by post, over the inclusion of Duncan McKenzie while Tommy Ring was never chosen and they had about the time and number of appearances with Everton, David said there was a panel of about five who chose the nominees, I think David Prentice was on the panel.

The reason for my post @12 is I don't think David is in the best of health at the moment.

By the way, Michael, have a glance at No 8 on that thread about the Hall of Fame six years ago by Eugene Rennie... hilarious!

Like many of us, Eugene wasn't very fond of Mr Kenwright!!

Tony & Dave @ 5, 6, 7, etc. Sadly the Inclusion was probably an 'appeal to his (boundless) vanity' box Dr David had to tick to get the whole thing off the ground.

That's not the news we'd want to hear, Dave. I know he's been through the ringer with some challenging health issues over the years.

Perhaps this is one slip-up amongst an otherwise incalculable myriad of positive contributions to Evertonia over an incredible lifetime of unparalleled devotion that we must find it in our hearts to forgive?

(I nearly wrote 'forgive and forget' but seems you did that bit already!)

Without Goodlass and Thomas, Latchford would not be in the Hall of Fame.

Sad that neither of our two most industrious wingers, and Latch providers in the 70s, are regularly ignored.

Derek,

I think you're on the right lines in terms of sentiment; however, Dr France's concept was more than fully developed with books already published and Gala Dinners at The Adelphi before Kenwright got his clammy paws on the reins of power at Goodison Park.

Michael K. I have (quite justifiably) been censured by you in the past for going off topic on a thread.

On one here specifically about Derek Temple, your ramblings about David France and the Hall of Fame are irrelevant, unnecessary.

Good call. Guilty as charged. It is annoying. I'll just delete them.
