Sean Dyche's job is currently safe despite a wretched start to the season for Everton which has left the club winless and bottom of the Premier League.

Club sources have told BBC Sport the 53-year-old has "credit in the bank" from his 20 months in charge, in which he steered them away from relegation.

The former Burnley boss has also entered the final 12 months of his contract at Goodison Park but Dyche retains the backing of the club's hierarchy.

So Dyche is safe, due to 'credit in the bank'.

Hurrah.

Credit in the bank. He's well overdrawn for me.

Dyche may have credit in the bank, but does he have credit with the Yank lol.

Personally I think he'll be out of a job by the end of September if the next two league games are lost.

The club's hierarchy? They've got less credit in the bank than the chokers on the pitch. Roll on new ownership

Dyche will be judged more on the matches we’re expected to win. Difficult to name any fit Everton player who would make Aston Villa’s team yesterday.

If he doesn’t get results in coming games against Leicester, Southampton, Palace, Ipswich then whoever’s running the ship at the moment may be forced to act.

Football is like politics, in the sense that words are totally meaningless a lot of the time.

Dyche hasn’t got long left unless his team starts winning, and if he really had a lot of credit in the bank, then I’m sure he would have been offered a new contract?

It’s actually scary having a manager entering the last year of his contract without being offered a new deal for obvious reasons, so let’s hope he’s on a good bonus for keeping us up, otherwise he might just lose interest.

I was thinking the same myself Tony, but surely he must be on a healthy bonus for keeping us up……….surely the board aren’t that stupid!!!!!!!

The BBC are reporting on us, sky are commenting on us, small talk is small change
Credit in the bloody bank..ffs
Credit where its due I say, and Dyce is spent

The only saving grace might be that branthwaite comes back fit and raring, Dixon and Patterson share the load at rb, young stays fit enough for lb, chermiti rotates with dcl and Beto, lindstrom, Tim and ndyaei all gel together, Virginia proves his worth and how many if buts and maybes is that ffs

Capt Dyce steadied the ship enough to scrape through last season, but we need a new pilot now,.

If Dyche has " credit in the bank " I'm off to check my account I could be a millionaire!!!

In all seriousness. I think the club ( whomever you choose to belive is making decisions) are looking thinking that it's only a 1 point worse than last season at this point .

Hard as fans to see it that way with the manner of the defeats, they just want to stay in the league. Be it by one point on the last day.

It's a gamble either way now.

Do you stick with the man who's kept you up twice by the skin of your teeth?

Do you try your luck ?

As a fan it's hard to get behind this manager, who I've backed under extreme pressures on and off the pitch.

Now it's really just the pitch, he's brought in some players, had time with the sqaud, time to implement his philosophy.

The problem is his philosophy.

You can't just consistently give the ball back to your opposition, long balls to an isolated front man with no support, only to see the opposition meandering backing to your own half unaposed will only end one way, even if your 2 - 3 - 4 nil up.

The little one touch passage of play that led to DCL one on one shows this team has ability, they are being Coached to not play that way, that just came naturally.

The club won't act until its truly in the balance, does anyone really belive they even have a list of people ready to look at ? Come on !!

I hope I'm wrong and Thelwell sees the impending danger.

I like that post, David, particularly your opening comment, it made me smile!!

The players do have ability. They need to be able to express themselves and play with confidence.

I take a slightly different view on Sean Dyche.

I think we stayed up in spite of him, not because of him.

Dyche may have credit in the bank but the rate of interest is dropping by the game.

Dyche had credit in the bank with me simply due to what he walked in to. Plus he actually delivered a rare derby win. However, he is now getting very close to his overdraft

But the way this season has started and the shite we are serving up is just not acceptable. The stats are damning, 5 wins since December 2023. Plus he keeps picking Keane who has a the luck of Jonah and we concede almost 3 goals a game when he plays.

Moshiri has made a right fuck-up of running this club and his choice of managers has been terrible. I just hope the negative football can keep us up for the move into the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next year.

Sam @3,

Therein lies the problem for me and I suspect many others.

Everton currently are not expected to beat anybody. The sooner he goes the better

It doesn't and should take a lot to shift a losers mentality out of a club.

Aston Villa got promoted in 2019 and after some shite managerial appointments they've made the right choice with Unai Emery, they now think like a big club, a club that at least wants to condition itself to success.

Newcastle were fighting relegation with us when Lampard beat them 1-0 in March 2022.

Yet Newcastle have now become a club that can challenge the top six and probably will challenge the top six, all done within less than two years and with far less spent than us between 2016 and 2019.

The lack of belief and the status quo losers mentality at Everton runs very deep, it's a shrug of the shoulders when we lose games like Saturday, but it shouldn't be

That comes from having an owner, and before that, a chairman at the club that didn't think Everton Football Club should be demanding success or at least attempting to reach it.

Dyche is basically Polyfilla, he is just a man brought in to stick a few things together, he won't make anything look better, no improvement will be made, he's just there to take plaudits when he keeps a team up playing a pragmatic way of football, but he'll never improve any attacking players game, he just won't.

Most clubs now don't make Dyche, Allardyce, Pulis type appointments, they've all moved away from that now and want a new modern way of thinking and style of play.

Sadly Everton have been stuck in the dark ages too long.

I know I'm in a minority (on TW anyway) but I think it would be crazy to get rid of Dyche at this stage in the season. We have gone through so many managerial changes and most times we've gone backwards. It's ridiculous. We need to have some patience and give him and the team some time to sort things out.

Everton fans did a great job marching and protesting against the FA. Can the same organisers do the same to have Dyche sacked immediately? It’s clear he has no love for the club and even less for the fans.
Swing by the Oak and l will join the protest.

Villa and Spurs away last season yielded zero points, the two home matches with Bournemouth and Brighton saw Everton gain four points, so from that match-up we're four points down on last season.

The next three league games will tell us a great deal, we beat Newcastle and drew with Palace at Goodison last term. Leicester on Saturday will be challenging given our current defensive frailties.

Steven Schumacher has been relieved of his duties at Stoke City, an opportunity for our former manager Moyes?, perhaps not, as Stoke’s sporting director, Jon Walters, said a “change in direction” is needed for the club. He told the club website: “My role as sporting director is to make tough decisions that serve the long-term interests of Stoke City. After ongoing discussions with [chairman] John Coates, we feel the time is right for a change in direction to bring success to the club.

“We have a young, dynamic squad that is eager to develop and a clear vision of how to achieve success, and we hope to announce a new appointment shortly. We will need the fans, staff, and players united in support to achieve our goals. As always in football, these decisions are difficult, and we wish Steven and his staff all the best for the future.”

Steven Schumacher

Sorry to hear that he had lost his job, he was very successful in his previous job, hopefully, he will find an opportunity in the not too distant future.

Three massive games for our manager before the International break. Hopefully, we can turn the tide but we are nowhere near the level we were at this time last year as a defensive unit and that is a huge worry.

Credit in the Bank is fine but it only takes one expensive mishap to wipe away the credit and put you in debit then they want to squeeze every drop of blood out of you to get their money back.
So scraping past relegation the last two seasons he is ok until we go down, I don't think banking works that way will they lend you the money to back a cert which will put you back in the black if it wins only for it to go down, no they require more security that that.

Something is not right I don't know anyone at the club and it is just a personal thought but why have all the new signings suddenly been set to the default Everton way of reaching the level of the rest so quickly.
One quarter of the play and two nil up then twice the lead is overturned and we grab defeat from the jaws of victory what is the key to playing well then suddenly the decent play falls apart.
We know DCL is far from a great striker you just knew when he seemed to go to slow motion when one on one with the goalkeeper that he'd fluff it. His Header was great his shot that hit the bar had the goalie beat all ends up but one on one it is as though the world falls apart.
Something is preventing the players seeing the game out with confidence but it needs to stop now and whatever it is needs extracting like a rotten tooth and thrown in the bin.

Making the comment here because I can't respond to the latest Textor thread via my mobile. But I don't believe Moshiri is remotely concerned by any of these goings on.

Although logically you expect him to act now to protect his investment, he hasn't done anything logical to that effect for getting on 4 years.

It isn't just PSR either.

It might well be that Moshiri's stake in Everton has always been illusory. After all, we know full well that Usmanov was involved somewhere.

And we've been in very very serious risk of relegation 3 seasons in a row now. Yet Moshiri has done nothing – except the last throw of a dice appointment of Dyche when we were desperate for reinforcements in the playing staff but got none.

It looks pretty clear that Moshiri won't incur any further expense. Which might explain why our last 4 managers were all out of work – and didn't need a compensation package – and also explains why we've had significant negative investment for three consecutive summer windows – to the tune of about £250M against rivals like Brentford, Bournemouth and Forest.

God only knows what is going on behind the scenes.

Fred 26,

I don't believe each season will play out the same as the previous season.

Yes, they are teams we took points from, but I'm sure we will take points from teams we didn't last season (hard to imagine at the moment, I know).

David @36,

I hope that you're right, and of course each season is different and each team has a few different players.

Whichever way we cut it, none of it is pleasant and we need those first 3 points ASAP.
