West Ham striker, Michail Antonio, is apparently in stable condition after being airlifted to hospital following a nasty-looking crash involving his Ferrari in rural Essex.

Images posted to social media showing the demolished front of his sports car had football fans fearing the worst for the 34-year-old but his club have posted an update reporting that he survived the accident and is "conscious and communicating".

Just hearing about Antonio. Is it serious?

Don't know, Paul, but the car he was in is totally smashed up.

West Ham confirm he’s in a stable condition.

That’s good news

Rob, I’ve seen a photo of Antonio’s Ferrari, it’s totalled, a real mess. He did the same with his Lamborghini in 2021 apparently. He’s lucky if his injuries aren’t serious.

Anyone else hurt, do we know, Ray?

Ray, I've seen it as well. How anyone could survive that without serious injury is, indeed, very lucky. I tried to post the link but it didn't work.

If anyone wants to see it, just Google 'Michail Antonio car crash'.

Seems to be a pattern here Ray.

He crashed his £210,000 Lamborghini Huracan into a house in Balham on Xmas Day 2019 dressed as a snowman.

Let’s hope not Ray and I’m glad he is stable but considering the previous incident, I can’t help think Boy Racer here.

Obviously praying for his recovery but if it was down to foolish driving then let's hope when he is well and on the mend this is finally lesson learned.

I share Jim's best wishes.

£210,000 Lamborghini. His insurance company are going to be chuffed about this.

It's like George Best with his Lotus Europa and Alan Hudson with his BMW Turbo:

It's all about flash, speed, showing off, John Terry mocking the taxi driver, me me me.

Meanwhile, Ray Wilson drove a Ford Anglia at one time and lived in a modest semi, and Derek Temple became a double-glazing salesman.

Paul..the immaculate Ramon was probably my favourite ever blue. Just loved him.
He did, of course, graduate to driving hearses. Funny old game, as someone said once

Paul (12),

Great last paragraph, Paul. I wouldn't mind betting Ray and Derek had much happier lives despite the difference in wealth!

It is being reported that he has broken his leg. That's Antonio out for the season, but then it may even be the end of his career, he is 34 years old.

I'm pleased for his family that the injuries weren't as bad as the mangled vehicle suggested they would be, here's to his recovery.

I have always rated him as a player, I recall Everton were linked with signing him a couple of seasons ago, but it was not to be. It now leads me to wonder if West Ham may make a move for Calvert-Lewin in January with them only having Fullkrug and Ings as available central striker options?

Maybe we could do a like-for-like swap for him now with Calvert-Lewin.

No matter what we feel about high end players and their high-performance cars, it is sad to hear that a talented person has potentially wrecked his or her career through bad judgement or just plain bad luck.

Wish him the best in his recovery but he is likely to follow Tiger Woods along the path to not recovering sufficiently to be back to the top level.

Nobody needs a car with top speeds of 180 mph plus, as mentioned above, he's got previous for crashing his "Supercar".

Maybe he'd be better off with a less powerful car so he's not tempted to plant his right foot to the floor.

He's out for 12 months according to reports so I hope he can recover and resume his career.

Mick, of course you were correct with your first line. But, having driven on some autobahns, at up to 285 kph, there is something to say for the experience. Ultimately, if you're going have a high performance car, you need to know how to drive it and when to use the power and speed.

The last time I was driving on the M1 in UK on holiday in 2019 (I've lived in Australia for the past 38 years), I was surprised that virtually nobody obeyed the motorway limit even in heavy traffic.

Some of the country roads attract driving perhaps somewhat above the speed limit but you have to be properly skilled if you want to avoid disaster.

76 years old now, I would suggest that one should respect the car's capability and one's own.

Regardless, I wish Antonio a full recovery!
