Brentford having lotsa fun

2-0 up after 20 minutes.

Mancs getting whacked at the hives. 2-0 at 20 mins.

Btw anyone else got problems getting onto ToffeeWeb? The derby it just would not work. Now it's slow.

No problems with any other sites or apps.

Utd scored. Proper scruffy but they all count. 2-1
More to come methinks

The server does seem to go through sluggish phases, Martin.

If I knew more about Google Analytics, I might be able to figure out what is happening.

But shockingly, we don't seem to have any technical support from the new owners at weekends!

Maybe I'll ask my new friend, Gemini...

I just hope they're paying you at least time and a half for all the great work you do to keep this website interesting every weekend, Michael.🤞

Is she fit ???

I was gutted about the derby and ToffeeWeb failing. But I appreciate you have your work cut out and put in so much time.

I live in Spain. Don't know if that's a factor. How can a football site not have support at a weekend that's just nuts... can we storm their cloud?

Danny O'Neill
7 Posted 27/09/2025 at 13:13:47
Firstly, I'll echo the sentiments. Thank you for being the engine room behind ToffeeWeb.

Brentford cruising and easily have had a 3rd. Now cruising and Man Utd now in control.

Michael Kenrick

Hello Danny, hope you are well.

Sorry, I never did get to see your derby match report. Not that you could do much to reverse the negative vibes that resulted. You should be able to just post it as any article submission.

I emailed you but it bounced back.

If there really was this 'Big Club' conspiracy that we hear of so often, surely the VAR man could have pressed his 'pass' button just one or two frames later and the semi-automated offside call would have ruled out Brentford's first goal?
Rob Halligan
10 Posted 27/09/2025 at 13:48:14
Every free-kick conceded by Man Utd is contested by Fernandes.

Deserved yellow card finally flashed in his rat-looking face, either for the foul committed by him, or for one protest too many.

Rob Halligan
11 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:07:24
Hahaha……Fernandes now misses a penalty.

Good save by the ex RS keeper.

That was a red card. Denying goal scoring opportunity.
Kevin Molloy
13 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:16:18
I detest VAR on general principle, but in terms of it's impact or bias, surely there are stats already out there to show if it favours the Big Six?

I've just had a quick look, and no discernible bias. But the stats are difficult to tabulate, for instance if Liverpool get their fifth goal disallowed unfairly, that's hardly the same as us having a last-minute winner chalked off. I'm not sure how they weigh the significance of the individual interventions.

Rob Halligan

Very good performance from Brentford and deserved win.

I wonder if Amorin has Potter on speed dial?

Tommy Carter
17 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:31:20
Brentford are shaping up okay, Sunderland and Leeds already have points on board and look like they could gather the same throughout the course of the season.

West Ham will improve under Nuno. Interesting season this one, I think, and I don't expect to see the 3 promoted teams go back down. I think there is room for a giant to fall this season so it's imperative that we look after ourselves... starting with a win on Monday night!

Martin Farrington
18 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:33:23
Jenny's lad scores their 3rd.

If that wasn't a goalscoring oppo and a red then there must be no more reds forever, or VAR have plummeted the depths of useless even further.

Ratty Fernandes... lol.

Great to see one of the Big Six getting some.

Dave Abrahams
19 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:35:48
West Ham have made the appointment that Everton will regret they never made.
Jim Bennings
20 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:38:34
I think it looks like being a more competitive Premier League this season.

Burnley and Wolves will struggle but I can't seen either being as bad as the likes of Southampton were or Luton previously.

Danny O'Neill
21 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:44:20
I said elsewhere Tommy, I think Leeds and Wolves will be okay. And if the worse happens, as clubs, I'm sure they have built the possibility of going down into their budgets.
Tommy Carter
22 Posted 27/09/2025 at 14:50:17
@19 Dave

Thomas Frank we should’ve got.

I’m not convinced Nuno would be a good fit for us.

Glasner and Iraola are two excellent managers who would join Everton if we were to approach them and pay them.

Dave Abrahams
23 Posted 27/09/2025 at 15:35:50
Tommy (19),

Yes, I like Thomas Frank and Iraola but Nuno is a good manager and there was no compensation to pay.

Now Davie will have to play his cards right... Everton might not be too slow next time!!!

Ryan Holroyd

‘Glasner and Iraola are two excellent managers who would join Everton if we were to approach them and pay them.'

Both have bigger fish to fry than a club like Everton who have been in the bottom half of the Premier League for most of the past 30 years.

Just been watching a Claret and Booze video on the appointment of Nuno, and there is not one fan who is happy with the appointment.

It will be low block all game under Nuno as far as they're concerned, basically the same as with Forest but with a far worse team. It will be like watching a Dyche team.

So as for Monday, just expect West Ham to park the bus and try and dig out a 0-0 draw.

Conor McCourt
31 Posted 27/09/2025 at 16:27:56
Watching the Palace game on a bad stream because I thought they had a chance today. Had to turn it off because the commentators were worse than my stream. Went to BBC to check it was still 1-0.

No pic of Sarr. Just the headline Liverpool trail to Palace. Did they not mean Palace in front against Liverpool? It's unbearable to watch a game they play even when they're losing.

Rob Halligan
32 Posted 27/09/2025 at 16:30:37
Conor, wait until the 90th minute if they’re still losing. It will be at least 10 minutes added on time.
Robert Tressell
33 Posted 27/09/2025 at 16:32:32
We won't change managers unless it starts to look like we're in relegation trouble. It's much too early for that - although it is looking like it will be a very competitive season (as Jim says, only Burnley and Wolves look weak). We're 11th. Which is about where we'll probably finish (most people predicted between about 8th and 14th over summer).

West Ham were always going to sack Potter. He is lucky to have been associated with Brighton - since their excellent club management (and recruitment) made him look a lot better than he is. Hurzeler might be in that category too. He's got a lot to prove. Nuno Espirito Santos is a good fit for West Ham - and not unlike Moyes in many respects. They will be fine now.

As others are saying, Iraola and Glasner are both good managers - especially overcoming big sales this summer. Impressive start for both after losing key players. However, it is very early days and we could still finish above both clubs.

Would they come to Everton?

Probably not Iraola. He must be in with a shout of the Man Utd job when Amorim is sacked (which must be soon now). And if it's not Man Utd - he'd have other options.

Glasner seems more realistic.

But the real thing that will make the difference is further spending. Everyone can see that the squad still has glaring issues with it. We didn't / couldn't spend a lot on the rebuild this summer and it was always obvious it would take 2 or 3 windows with TFG to fix the very serious damage done by Moshiri.

I am sure this is obvious to TFG too.

So going to the disruption and cost of sacking a manager who seems to be performing broadly as expected - and to then replace him with a manager who is unlikely to perform materially better would seem a very unlikely move.

Andy Meighan

How all of a sudden has Numo Espirito Santo become a great manager?
Kieran Kinsella

Rob

You forgot to mention they'd get a dubious goal too. Handball seemingly.

Martin Farrington
38 Posted 27/09/2025 at 17:02:04
So contentious.

Salah had his arm right up in the air. Imo he handled it causing its flight to vary slightly, thus causing the poor header by the palace player which allowed Chiesa to get to it to score. The Palace back post lad should have done better.

VAR say Mo Salah didn't handle. I say he did.

I'm fed up of the Premier League, and have been for a few years, I only watch Everton (and their opponents) now.

It's loaded dice, in terms of money, officiating, VAR and the media.

I wish these six shithouses had been allowed to leave.

Jim Bennings
55 Posted 27/09/2025 at 17:19:27
I remember a year ago when some wanted Glasner sacked, Kunal.

A sign of a well run club is when it doesn't panic and also when it keeps selling its best players and then keeps performing well on the pitch; that's a club I would like to support.

Contrast that with us: It takes us the obligatory 3 years to recover from losing a key player, with every excuse under the sun being spewed out.

Palace stuck two fingers up to Liverpool on deadline day over Guehi, and they've done it again today, great stuff.

Rob Halligan
56 Posted 27/09/2025 at 17:23:56
Six minutes of added time was announced at Selhurst Park. Good to see the winner was scored in the 97th minute.

Ten minutes was finally played. No doubt Slop will demand an enquiry as to why more than six was played?

Phil (Kelsall) Roberts
57 Posted 27/09/2025 at 18:07:39
Just thinking about Glasner, Iraola, Nuno, and even Slot. Our history in the Premier League has been Kendall, Walker, Royle, Kendall, Smith, Moyes, Martinez from Wigan, Koeman from Southampton, Marco Silva from Watford, Ancelotti, Lampard, Dyche, Moyes.

If we exclude the well known Carlo, are we the only club in the Premier League to have never plucked a foreign manager from a European League and made him our manager but have always played it safe?

Danny O'Neill
58 Posted 27/09/2025 at 21:33:20
Decent day of football. We all got to be entertained. A few mentions. I'm enjoying the Wolves v Tottenham match. Wolves not shy going forward and will mix it. Tottenham good, but for all their riches, must frustrate their supporters.

City cruising... and best game I watched? Brentford v Man Utd. Forget the scoreline, real end-to-end stuff.

Palace need no mention.

Chris James
59 Posted 27/09/2025 at 21:41:53
What's that, Danny, Wolves not absolute rubbish after all?

Interesting - presumably Frank is a clown for not starting Porro, Sarr and Johnson? No doubt they'll be under a lot of pressure now to deliver against Leeds, etc, etc... ;-p

Kunal Desai
60 Posted 27/09/2025 at 21:53:01
Other than the top three, no other team is showing signs of consistency this early on: Spurs, Chelsea, Villa and Newcastle all wobbling.

Could be an interesting season ahead.

Rob Halligan
61 Posted 27/09/2025 at 22:00:38
Danny,

I'd say Spurs were absolutely woeful for the entire match. A good goal by Palhinha for the equaliser but definitely not deserved.

Two weeks in a row now on motd, the Ozempic Queen whitewashes her beloved rs misdemeanours.

Last week it was the foul on Ndiaye, which wasn’t given and led to their goal. And last night the Salah handball which was totally ignored and not even raised as a talking point.

We were promised a threeseome on motd but Dalgleish seems to have tied up the Saturday night slot for herself while, the much more talented, and beautiful, Gabby Logan is relegated to the Sunday night dead zone.

Chappers, if he’s not careful, will end up doing Football Focus which no one watches anymore.

Andy Crooks
65 Posted 28/09/2025 at 10:46:32
Genuinely disappointed that DCL is still missing the same sort of chances that he did for us.
Colin Glassar
66 Posted 28/09/2025 at 12:38:54
DCL needs a run of games to get his sharpness back, Andy.

He's always been a slow burner.

Andrew Merrick

Wow Fulham quick starters..

Still no Antonee Robinson or we would gave seen two former left backs on the same pitch..

Jon Bentley
68 Posted 28/09/2025 at 14:32:27
Interesting to see a Villa defender's block coming off his arm but no VAR or suggestion of a penalty. It was in a 'natural' position but still made his body bigger.

Thinking back to Leeds, inconsistency is so annoying isn't it! 🙄

John Keating
69 Posted 28/09/2025 at 14:37:10
Jon,

Spot on! Just proves VAR is a complete joke.

KDH “handball” nowhere near as bad as that yet penalty given.

We have to bin this nonsense asap.

Bill Gall
70 Posted 28/09/2025 at 15:04:01
I thought a natural position was supposed to be with your arm by your sides, Villa players arm was away from his body.

This referee's performance is disgusting. Cant see Silva lasting much longer.

Colin Glassar
71 Posted 28/09/2025 at 15:20:21
We’d better win tomorrow because the teams below us are starting to pick up points and the last thing we need is to be sucked back down again
John Keating
72 Posted 28/09/2025 at 16:06:36
Bill,

If you're flying in to block or stop a shot, how the hell can you have your arm alongside your body????

VAR has been the absolute worst nonsense ever introduced to footy.

Colin Glassar

I'd be furious if that was us not getting that penalty.
Rob Halligan
76 Posted 28/09/2025 at 16:51:10
That was a penalty all day long for Arsenal. Gyokeres played the ball first, Pope got the slightest touch but then proceeded to bring Gyokeres down, who otherwise would probably have got the ball. Pathetic decision by VAR and the referee.
Colin Glassar
77 Posted 28/09/2025 at 16:54:04
Why bother having match day officials? Just put a couple of men in a white van, miles away, and they can make all the calls.

The incompetent refs we have are redundant anyway.

Jack Convery
78 Posted 28/09/2025 at 16:54:18
Ridiculous VAR. Ref was right firstst time.

No doubt some stupid explanation will be posted on the screen, when they've decided what say!

Bill Gall
79 Posted 28/09/2025 at 16:59:31
Can someone explain what a penalty is?

It seems a foul outside the penalty area is a free kick yet, inside the penalty area, it is what slow-motion replay will decide it to be.

Sean Mitchell
80 Posted 28/09/2025 at 17:05:32
And just like that, Newcastle score.

Unless VAR has other ideas...

Pete Hughes
81 Posted 28/09/2025 at 17:07:01
And the maggots go a goal up, travesty, gooners have battered them so far!
Jim Bennings
82 Posted 28/09/2025 at 17:11:11
Arsenal as usual doing their pretend title challenge.

They don't have the goals in them to win it, especially on the road consistently.

Woltemade with Geordie's goal, well the saying is when signing strikers, you get what you pay for.

Clearly you don't get quality for what we are out there spending on forwards anymore.

Allen Rodgers
83 Posted 28/09/2025 at 17:32:34
The Barcodes got away with one there, we all know the RS would have been given a penalty.

Good goal by the Newcastle big lad though, wonder if Barry was watching? That's how you do it, lad!

Martin Farrington
84 Posted 28/09/2025 at 17:34:47
Not sure who I want to lose the most. A team that is owned by one of the most disgusting nations on the planet...

Or an entire team that cheat like fuck, go down quicker than a cheap whore, think they have a right to every decision going their way, and are not worthy of setting foot near a pitch.

It was a penalty. No doubt. But it's refreshing to see a top 6 team being treated like we are every game. Like Collins's non-sending off yesterday, it is a staggering decision.

Conversely, Gabriel should be ashamed. Can you see Adams or Keown going down with a fingertip touch.

Mr Moyes, take note. That is what a centre-forward looks like. Go out and get two in January. No excuses.

Andy Meighan
85 Posted 28/09/2025 at 17:42:55

Colin Glassar

Arsenal will never win the league with Arteta. Even his dad, Pep, has realised Pep-ball is a thing of the past. Arteta is a pale imitation.

Deserved equaliser by Moreno.
Rob Halligan

2-1 Arsenal. Gabriel with a header from a corner. Pope nowhere, just trying to fight his way through a crowd of bodies.

Big test passed by Arteta.
Conor McCourt
97 Posted 28/09/2025 at 18:42:57
Good man, Colin... I think they are certainties this season and will win it at a canter.

Until this season they haven't had the squad. The year they blew it was after Saliba got injured and was replaced by Rob Holding. He's not even championship level.

They have played Man Utd, Liverpool and Newcastle away as well as Man City at home largely without Odegard Saliba Saka and Haverts.

They have now the squad to win it and I'm convinced they will.

Les Callan
98 Posted 28/09/2025 at 18:48:56
Don't agree, Rob. Arsenal man was making no attempt to play the ball. He blocked off the keeper.

Foul all the way ……in the old days. But now it seems acceptable.

Martin Farrington
99 Posted 28/09/2025 at 19:39:12
And that's why Pope will never be England's No 1.

That was weak and poor keeping.

Eric Haworth
100 Posted 28/09/2025 at 19:57:56
Unfortunately Les I'm of an age where I can remember Don Revie & his Leeds cheats doing exactly that by employing Jack Charlton to stand in front of opposition keepers at set pieces & deliberately obstruct them from getting to the ball.

So this tactic at least goes back to the early 60s from my personal knowledge. In fact keepers were subject to a lot worse back then, ending up in the back of the net from set pieces & I can remember a certain Frank Wignall of our persuasion making an art form of bundling keepers over the goal line with ball in hand & being awarded the goals.

I also believe a certain Nat Lifthouse was famous for this a lot earlier still. Whereas you only have to give them a nasty look these days for them to get a free kick.

Andy Meighan
102 Posted 28/09/2025 at 21:28:49
Justice done in the end with Gabriel's late goal especially after being denied a blatant pen.

Made up because I despise Newcastle and their delusional fans, I bet they're gutted that Sunderland are flying high as well.

Long may it continue.
