Thoughts from the Editor

The Dust Settles
10 September 2004

The EGM has come and gone, with some modicum of changes promised, and so we can move on, confident once again that Everton are in the hands of "one of us" — a man who works "24 hours a day, seven days a week" as he bids to take Everton back to where they belong.

  • True Blue Holdings will be dissolved
  • There will be new share issues
  • Investment from Fortress Sporting Fund is an "absolute possibility".... WTF?

I was quite prepared to draw a line under this sad and sorry summer, accept the small victories that have been achieved... no, sorry – promised... and move on in a spirit of positive optimism.  That was until I read this on the Official Everton Website:

"I don’t know anyone in life who hasn’t made a mistake and I will make more mistakes but I do think I’m the best person to run this Football Club and I do think I can only do good for the Football Club, I wouldn’t do it any harm," he said.

"I don’t think there’s any chairman or deputy chairman in the country who has a better relationship with its manager or managers, who does better deals, who works harder on transfers.

"That’s not blowing my own trumpet I just know what I’m good at and that’s what I’m good at.

Well there you have it.  Bullshit Billy at his best.  I despair, I really do.

But he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,
he's one of us,

(Fade to Blue...)

I've always had the highest regard for ToffeeWeb and in particular you, Michael Kenrick, (you helped maintain my sanity when I was exiled in Australia for a number of years), but I'm becoming REALLY fed up with your constant carping at Bill Kenwright.  He's BLUE through and through and, mistakes or not, he would never, wittingly, hurt Everton.

Do YOU have a hidden agenda?  Seems to me you are deliberately stirring up opposition to our Chairman when we desperately need a united front.  Unless you have any better suggestions or ideas please back off and let Bill continue to do his best to get our beloved football club back on track. —  Regards, Pam Bayley

I really do fucking despair when people are taking the time to email the editor of this site to complain about the “editorial tone” of late.

Where the fuck have they been for the past three years, whilst Bi;; Kenwright has steered our great club into the depths of despair?  Sure, the man may be a Blue and I believe that he really does care – but does this mean he has the ability to lead such a high-profile and cared-about club?  Bollocks it does!.  Thank god for the moaners amongst us – somebody has to remind our inept chairman and his Board-member cronies that we have a rather meaningful(?) club motto.

Those bemoaning the editorial content of this site have very short memories and have done well to forget that the Club is possibly in a worse position, both financially and on the pitch, than ever before.  Isn’t it funny what a couple of victories can do?!

We are a laughing stock and will continue to be so for as long as we have such an inept Chairman at the helm.  Accepting Kenwright is accepting more phoney transfer bids (Alan Smith & Barry Ferguson), more white elephants (King’s Dock & external investment), and is accepting something that suggests our club motto is nothing more than a bit of Latin rhetoric. — Dave Randles

Michael,

I see you are coming in for a lot of stick lately, yet you are honest enough to publish it.

I have a message for all those Bill Kenwright luvies out there.  Bill Kenwright, not intentionally, has made a mess of running this club.  Because Bill is 'one of us' he has had an easy, pressure-free ride for the past few years.  Only now that he has had an almighty kick up the arse from Michael, myself and other like-minded fans are we getting somewhere.

People don't always do a good job unless they have someone putting pressure on them.  So all you Bill luvies out there, YES we may get new investors (Well done Billy), but ask yourself one question....  If Paul Gregg and anti-Kenwright fans didn't exist, then would we be talking about investors today?  I think not and besides so damaged is my trust with Kenwright that I won't believe it till I see it.

Well done the lads yesterday, it's nice to see things are going very well on the field.  I just hope all of this isn't another false dawn. —  Paul Coleman
