World Cup Prediction ? Final Results

By Mike Oates :  12/07/2010 :  Comments (5) :
In early May, I asked for your World Cup Predictions. There were no prizes, just a little test to see who out of all of us renowned expert Football managers really has a modicum of football sense.

(i) Name the 2 teams from each group that qualify ? 3 pts a team
(ii) Name the winners, runner up, 3rd and 4th places, 10, 8, 6, 4 pts respectively.

There were 41 people who entered and after the Group stage the top looked like this

1. Leader on 39 pts ? Jamie Sweet
2. Joint 2nd on 36 pts ? Brett Jonathan, David Clement, Davie Turner
3. Joint 5th on 33 pts ? James Stuart, Jimmy Hacking, Erik Dols, Eugene Ruane, Steve Kidd, Liam Reilly, Kirk McArdle, Ray Robinson, Dan Walshe, Peter Warren, Ben Jones, Nic Doyle, Sean Keigher, Brendan O?Doherty.

As there were also another 11 people on 30pts so it was still all to play for!

Well, after last night?s turgid affair, the Final Result is as follows:-

1. Brett Jonathan ? 52 points, forecasted Spain as winners and Germany 3rd
2. Steve Kidd ? 51 points, forecasted Spain and Netherlands correctly
3. David Moore ? 48 points, forecasted Spain and Netherlands correctly.

Hard luck to Jamie Sweet but he forecasted a final 4 of 1st England, 2nd Argentina, 3rd Netherlands and 4th Italy ? nil points !!

So well done to Brett Jonathan ? any chance of forecasting this season?s Premier League Top 10 places?

The Premier League top 10 will be the same as it was last season.

As the official winner, I must say I am well chuffed to have taken out the top spot. After the group games, I did think I was nicely poised for a big finish after picking 3 of the final 4 ? which as far as I could tell, wasn't matched by anyone within striking distance.

As ecstatic as this win may have me feeling, I must share with you all my utter dismay at the lack of an awesome prize to match my awesome predicting ratio!

I guess the respect of my ToffeeWeb peers will have to do for now.... ;P

As for my thoughts on the upcoming season? I'd love to put Everton in a top 4 race til the end but fear that may be like my decision to place England in my World Cup final 4 which as we all know, backfired horribly for most of us.

A top 6 finish with a last gasp for 5th/4th would be awesome.

Thanks again Mike for organising this too. Your inaugural ToffeeWeb World Cup champion for the next 4 years signing off (yes that's right, Johhny Heitinga ? I win)!

I got 49 points!

I tipped Spain and Germany to finish 1st and 3rd

Brazil and Australia to finish 2nd and 4th... some may laugh at me for tipping Australia but as Ghana showed it was the soft side of the draw.
