I know I am glossing over the perceived mismanagement of the club. So what, live with the reality of what income we do actually generate, it is not going to change, is it? Supposedly we generate £80 million and have outgoings of £85 million. Er, how is that sustainable? This is the major part of Bill?s mismanagement.
If Bill had balls, he?d tell Moyes that it was not possible to put these players on supposedly £75k a week. Come on, this is Everton, this is seriously high wages for players at the end of their careers. Bill acts like a fan, not a chairman. He can see the figures, he can see the impending doom, so why did he fail to take heed of the warning signs?
Moyes clings to his players like precious toys. Dave, let them go, get decent transfer funds and find the next big thing. That is his skill. Dave?s skill is not hanging on to 29-year-old players because you want to keep the squad together. Then hike up their salaries to record levels that Everton cannot sustain, leaving you without any transfer funds and players with reducing resale value. How is that a smart move?
So expect further players to leave over the next year for financial reasons. Would we really complain if Cahill was shipped off now to another club for a nominal fee. Again he is allegedly on £75k/wk (£3.5M a year) and his contribution seems to be fading now with injuries becoming more common.
Is it not more important to secure Fellaini on a high salary contract, only to protect our resale value of him? We do not want another Pienaar situation. That was completely stupid by Moyes, or Bill. Bill should have stepped in and said, sell him and you can have the money.
Should we have really extended Neville's contract (we have 3 or 4 right backs on the books), and what stupid terms are going to be offered to Distin to extend? Do we need 6 centre backs as the club? Can we afford a gifted striker who is so injury-prone? Saha is fantastic, but is he worth it?
If this policy seems mad, then look at Newcastle. As much as you may dislike Ashley, he is sorting out the finances of the club. The Hollywood salary players have been leaving, and less expensive and younger players joining. Admittedly, some good players are leaving and but Newcastle will be fine. In 2 years they will be much stronger financially and will outstrip us in the transfer market.
Everyone has been looking at the expenditure at Stoke City and looking enviously. But can you say that in 3 years? time that they will not be in financial crisis? More players on the books, greater leakage of money in salaries, and then financial ruin. Who is the next Leeds or Portsmouth?
We have come back from the brink. Time to sort out the finances, starting with the excessive salary expense, and then sort out those strange mysterious ?other operating costs?!!! Those I cannot pass comment on, as not even Bill knows what they are.... fantastic!
Oh, now I have to explain to my 10-year-old son why we sold our best player... ?Well, you see, son, we are in financial crap...?
