All You Need Is Luck

By Tony   Marsh  ::  22/11/2011   125 Comments (»Last) It wasn't pretty but three points is all that mattered in the end. That's the message I have been getting from our supporters since the victory over Wolves last Saturday. It's what I have listened to and read since the win... So that's it the sum total of our season so far? The height of our ambition is to become content with a lucky win over one of the shitiest teams in the Premier League.

When was the last time any of you can remember a performance where Everton under Moyes took another team apart or totally outplayed a side? Can anyone tell me because I can't think of any right now. Yes, we beat Wolves but it was shocking to watch; embarrassing in fact.

The problem we have under Deadly Dave is that our performances rarely change ? it's just that the results differ. We either get lucky and win or we don't get lucky and we lose. The football and the tactics are as predictable and stale as a Des O'Connor concert ? only less entertaining. At least Des could sell out a venue from time to time...

I can't blame Moyes for what Kenwright is doing or not doing with the financial side of things but we can blame him for the way things transpire out on the field of play. Money is great but money doesn't make a manager not play strikers or teach players to pass to feet... does it?

Where has the manager with the 5-year plan gone? What's happened to a manager trying something new from time to time? You know... trying to out-think and out-manoeuvre his opposite number? What's happened to new formations and new tactics which are sorely needed right now?

We are the easiest team in the country to suss out and Moyes is the manager with the fewest tricks up his sleeve. If Moyes were a magician, he wouldn't be pulling rabbits out of a hat... he would forget the hat and the rabbits would die of boredom..

Have any of you noticed how unhappy our players look when they play a match these days? They are looking more and more like Moyes with each passing game. It's a mixture of fear, futility and not giving a shit. Baines, Coleman, Saha, Cahill ? you name them ? they all have a gormless look about them. Even Arteta looked lost towards the end... It's infectious.

When our supporters start doing cartwheels because we scrape a home win against the likes of Wolves, then you know we have serious problems. A few years ago we were just a tiny spec on the football map, now we are not even on the map. We've been airbrushed off for committing crimes against our own supporters.

When was the last time any of you came away from an Everton game feeling entertained and positive about the future? When was the last time you felt entertained even? It doesn't happen; every game is a Grim dour battle to the end and huge sighs of relief if we manage a result. That can't be right all the time... surely?

The manager is clueless, the board is potless and the players couldn't care less... yet some of you have the fucking nerve to slag off fans who went on the march the other day. That's all this club has left right now. A small glimmer of hope in the hearts and souls of some of the diehard fans who love this club, poor Bastards.

God Bless them all, I say... and keep up the good work.
