Everton still bitter over red card costs

While Goodison officials welcomed the reprieve for Jack Rodwell, which means he will be available for the next three fixtures, there was a lukewarm response to the verdict dispatched yesterday through a terse statement on the FA website.

Chief executive Robert Elstone and Chairman Bill Kenwright argued much of the damage inflicted by the poor decision taken in the 24th minute of Saturday's fixture was irreversible. Elstone went so far as to suggest Everton's Premier League earnings, which are determined by a club's final placing, could be affected.

?While we obviously welcome the news, it is no consolation to nearly 40,000 fans who had gone to the game expecting to see a contest,? said Elstone.

?We don't know if the decision cost us one or three points, but at nearly £1 million a place in prize money in the Premier League these days, it could prove to be a really expensive mistake, not to mention the biggest disappointment for Jack.
