Friday 25 November marked the second anniversary of the Government's decision to reject Everton Football Club's proposed plan to relocate from Goodison Park to a new stadium and retail complex in Kirkby. Since that day, Evertonians have been feeling the full weight of ex-CEO Keith Wyness's now prophetic statement that ?There is no Plan B?. This article from the Blue Union reviews the subsequent progress on getting Everton a new stadium and provides some hope for the future. Some excerpts from the BU article: Earlier in the year, members of The Blue Union met Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright. The agenda was long and varied, but unsurprisingly the future of Goodison Park was a topic that was up for discussion. Mr Kenwright assured our representatives that he believed that the state of the ground was not impacting on the inability to find a buyer or investor to take the Club onto the next level. Much to our confusion, this was contradicted in an interview that Mr Kenwright gave to Christian Purslow a couple of weeks ago. Whether you believe story A or story B is irrelevant, what is important is that for Everton to compete at the top end of the league, on a consistent basis, the regeneration of Goodison Park, or the relocation to a suitable and deliverable site within the Liverpool boundaries is essential to the future survival of Everton FC. The Football Quarter represents that light at the end of the tunnel; that opportunity that Everton missed with the Kings Dock project to give something back to the City that we can all be proud of. An opportunity to kick on to the next level, to give the manager a fighting chance to bridge the gap, to compete at the top end of the table, to fully comply with UEFA regulations and dare I say it, deliver some much needed silverware. One thing is for sure, throughout our glorious history, Evertonians have been pivotal to the continued and future greatness of our Club. From the days of creating the very first Shareholders Association, to the Everton Former Players Foundation a foundation envied the world over, to the Everton Collection the most comprehensive collection of Football memorabilia in the world, to the sterling work carried out by Everton in the Community and yes to KEIOC and their achievements during the ?Destination Kirkby? Public Inquiry and their ingenuity in developing the Football Quarter proposal, Evertonians have influenced and will continue to influence the future of our great Club, the Famous Everton Football Club.
