Season › 2011-12 › News Distin enjoying left-back role Michael Kenrick , 2 May, 6comments | Jump to most recent Sylvain Distin says he is enjoying his unfamiliar role as stand-in for the injured Leighton Baines and he was praised by David Moyes for his performance against Stoke in the 1-1 draw last night. "To be honest, I do enjoy it, surprisingly," he told evertontv. "I thought it would be really difficult but I feel like I've adapted quite well. "It's a new job for me. I think the last time I played left-back was something like six or eight years ago. And I was a lot skinnier at the time! "It's a lot of running but I'm getting used to it. The lads make it easier for me as well and I speak a bit with Bainesy to get some tips from him." Distin initially began his career as a left-back but has since used his athleticism and reading of the game to become one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League in spells with Manchester City, Portsmouth and, of course, Everton over the past decade. He accepts, though, that he doesn't quite share Baines' attacking instincts. "I didn't expect to do as well as him because he's an amazing player. I give my best and that's it," Distin said. "Obviously I know I'm not going to go forward as much as Bainesy but, as I say, I'll just do my best."
