Season › 2011-12 › News Neville: Heitinga reveling in his best position Lyndon Lloyd , 17 May, 6comments | Jump to most recent Phil Neville believes that competition for places and the fact that John Heitinga is playing in his favourite position are the reasons why the Dutch defender is in the form of his life for the Blues. Heitinga was struggling to hold down a first-team place at Goodison Park when deployed as a defensive midfielder but this season he has anchored himself as first choice at centre back and was deservedly named the supporters' Player of the Season. His captain acknowledges that it took the 28 year-old time to settle in but now that he has settled the team is benefiting from his defensive talents. ?It does take players a while to settle in," Neville said. ?I think the thing is he is playing in his best position. He played in midfield and he always said playing at centre-back is his best position. ?He has been unbelievable, using his experience and composure on the ball. I think it has been his best form since he came to the Club.? And Neville also attributed Heitinga's love for Everton as a big contributing factor. ?He loves playing for Everton Football Club," Neville continues, "and as someone who plays at the top level for Holland, that is fantastic." Heitinga is now training with the Holland squad as they prepare for the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine next month.
