Liverpool Senior Cup Final date set

Everton will play Tranmere Rovers in the Liverpool Senior Cup final on Tuesday 31 July at 7:30pm, it has been confirmed.

The tie is being played as a pre-season friendly but the prize for the winners will be the Liverpool Senior Cup, the most prestigious all-Merseyside cup competition.

Tranmere will have home advantage in the match against last year's runners-up Everton, who were beaten 2-0 by Southport in the 2011 competition.

Both sides defeated lower league opposition on penalties to make it to the final. Tranmere beat Prescot Cables at Prenton Park after the latter had been reinstated because of Southport's expulsion for fielding an ineligible player.

Meanwhile, Everton beat Bootle on penalties in the second semi-final despite the Bucks leading for large periods of the game.
