Pienaar credits Moyes for his lift in form

Steven Pienaar says that it was advice from David Moyes to be more selfish in the final third that helped him pitch in with four goals after returning to Goodison on loan from Tottenham.

The South African midfielder scored just twice in 18 appearances in the half-season before he left Everton in 2010 but doubled that tally after January this year as the Blues pushed on into seventh place in the Premier League.

"The Everton manager sat me down and told me to be a bit selfish and get in the box to score goals," Pienaar told The Sowetan in his native Johannesburg.

"When you return from injury you have more hunger and excitement for the game, but the season is over now and I have to show that same form for the national team."

The 30 year-old is back home as Bafana Bafana prepare for two 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and Botswana but he was also quizzed about his future back in England.

"I have to go back [to White Hart Lane]," he says. "I don't have a choice. I have a contract there."

Pienaar made no secret of the wrench of having to say goodbye to his Everton teammates after such a successful return to the Blues and rumour has it that he has told the North London club that he will only sign for Everton this summer.

He will have to wait to see, though, whether David Moyes has the capital available to bring him back permanently on the one hand and whether Spurs will play hardball over the price on the other.
