Premier League TV rights sold for £3bn

The Premier League has sold the broadcast rights for the 2013-14 to 2015-16 seasons to BSkyB and BT for a deal totaling £3.018bn, a massive £1.254bn more than the current deal with Sky and ESPN.

No details have been revealed but the deal will likely ensure a greater revenue share per season for all Premier League clubs which would only be good news for clubs like Everton for whom the televised rights deal has become overwhelmingly the biggest source of revenue.

While Sky bought the rights to 116 games a year, newcomer BT's 32-game package includes 18 of the 38 first-choice picks. It is not yet clear how the telecomms giant will broadcast the matches but they could either start their own dedicated football channel or deliver them exclusively online.
