Chang celebrates Premier League milestone

Chang Beer has become the longest-standing football club sponsor in the Barclays Premier League. This season sees the premium Thai beer brand continue its sponsorship of Everton FC, a partnership that has been in place since 2004-05.
Everton players have been proudly sporting the Chang elephant logo on their shirts for five seasons, with the latest sponsorship deal between the two parties set to run until 2014. The on-going sponsorship deal became the biggest in the club's history as it hit the millions.

Geoff Tirrell, General Manager of Chang Beer, said: “We have built a great relationship with Everton over the years and we're delighted to hold the mantel of longest-standing sponsor in the Premier League. We look forward to the season ahead and continuing the projects that we support alongside Everton and the team.”

The partnership between Chang Beer and Everton Football Club has flourished over the years both on and off the field, through the creation of successful projects — such as the Chang-Everton village in Thailand. Consisting of 50 houses and a football field, the village has seen youth teams from the area come together to compete for the Chang-Everton sponsored cup. Any promising Thai footballers are also invited to Liverpool to trial with the Everton team.

It has also seen the creation of global on-pack promotions, the most recent of which saw Chang team up with Everton to offer a money-can't buy Live the Life of a Premier League Footballer competition.

It's not quite Peroni though!

Moretti is far nicer, John.

This is about as wonderful as being the first club to have under-soil heating or a three-tier stand.

It's really these things that make being an Evertonian so unique. Longest running shirt sponsor, well, there you go.

Nice to see our scouting network stretches as far as 50 houses in Thailand. And the on-pack competition. It could have been you, could have been me, but ends up going to Big Vic!

It's better than Singha!

They're no NEC that's for sure. I'd love to have that name back on the shirt.

Is anyone happy with having Chang on the shirt? Should we not be seeking sponsorship deals with more marketable household names or is the football market no longer able to attract such names?

Better Chang than Standard Chartered, a suitable sponsor for a shambolic club.

If it's such a great partnership somone from the Club should ask Chang why Barcelona and Real Madrid are on their cans of Chang and bottles of water and there's no signs of Everton on any of them.

Chang are not even shirt sponsors of those 2 clubs.

In the words of Kim Basinger in the 80's flick Blind date, "Un piss du cheval", much prefer Stella, however Poretti is a storming beer that isn't sold in very many pubs. The Scarisbrick in Southport is the only place I can find it now, after discovering it in Seguras on Country Road for a few weeks two years ago.

I support the Club 100%, except for drinking Chang. I'm 40 years a beer drinker. So I state with an expert's certainty, Chang is awful. Better they pour it back into the homeless guys they get it out of.

James Flynn, you'd better not come to Thailand then as there's plenty worse than Chang here, tt least with it being 6.4% it has a bit of taste.

I really enjoyed drinking Chang beer when I was in Thailand.

(The fact that it was about 50p for a half litre bottle did add to my enjoyment.)

Certainly a better experience than, say, for example, paying £3.80 for a pint of cider.

Perhaps it's the half-Asian in me and the fact I grew up drinking the once formaldehyde-preserved Tiger beer as a teen, along with Anchor, Fosters and whatever else the cheapest piss was we could afford at the time. I really don't mind the Thai beers, Chang, Singha, Leo. The one Asian beer I really can't fucking stand is San Miguel. That's really watered down piss. Bath water tastes better. You Brits are spoilt anyway, I wish we'd get some proper ales over here.

James Martin... Stan Chart, heh. They're still sending my dad a Statement of Account each month to tell him it's $0.00, after acknowledging the death cert I emailed them over 2 years ago! "Plonkers", as he would say.

I digress. Watered down piss will at least quench your thirst than cheap piss itself. San Miguel over Chang.

Rory, the San Miguel Super Dry in Philippines is good but I don't like the regular.

Singha Draft is OK, better than the bottled / canned versions.

Leo is OK, I drink it with lunch as it's lighter than Chang (only 5%), Chang Draft is only 5% too but not available everywhere.

Tiger is pallatable in Thailand but it was awful in Viet Nam, not surprised about the formaldehyde!

Heineken is the worst beer in Thailand.

Carlsberg is making a comeback but not so available as yet, and pricier too.

Chang is NOT Thailand's Premier beer... Chang is Thailand's PEASANTS' beer. No Middle or Upper class Thai would be seen dead with a Chang. Singha, Leo and Beer Lao if you can get it are much better beers.

Peter, the peasants drink Archa, Siam Sato and lao khao.

Eric - Reminded me of living in S. Korea back in the mid-80s. They had (and still have) a beer called Obi. You could buy a huge bottle for $1. Incredibly cheap and not bad beer.

This was back when they were just beginning to build their economy, those few years before it exploded. Talk about a peasant transition to a modern, educated middle-class.

Anyway, they were still making their way in the 80s and guys used to joke that Obi was it's own micro-brewery because monday's batch tasted different than tuesday's, which tasted different than wednesday's . . . . .

Oh, and they shrunk the bottle down to 12 oz. size and jacked up the price. Oh for the good old days.

But I can't drink Chang. Tried it in, um, support of the Club. Ugh.
