That first half we were pretty awful right up until we scored the goal. The 2nd half was better with many players displaying the old passion and fighting spirit Moyes has drilled into them over the years.
But I'm still not convinced Everton have suddenly turned a corner and are now a much better team under Roberto Martinez. As Jose said after the game Chelsea were the better side.
That being said we did beat Chelsea and great credit should go to Roberto because we really did have a poor record against Chelsea under David Moyes.
I think we will know a lot more about the new Everton after West Ham (a) and the tricky cup tie against Fulham (a).
Beating Chelsea was a good result for the fans but I still fear that too much football is being played a long the back line and not enough goals are being scored at the other end.
But beating Chelsea was a start and lets remain optimistic that we can continue and beat West Ham and Fulham.

Just shows what the little man is capable of, now if he could just do more of it.....

'Under Moyes, Everton were often criticized for a lack of ambition in settling up for a draw against Big Four teams. When asked if he would do likewise, Martinez sounds aghast, as if the mere suggestion offended him. "No!" he says, revealing a change in style even more significant than the tailored blue suits he favors that have replaced Moyes' staid sweatshirts on the Everton sideline. "We will always go for a win. Going for a draw does not allow you to achieve what we want to achieve. Chelsea are a top-four team and that is what we want to be."
The Roberto Revolution!

See I remember the old days when we sucked pretty awful. Last game of the season relegation scraps against Wimbledon and Coventry. Those were days I never want to see return.
Moyes changed all that and took us from a relegation tipped team to a regular Top 5/6/7 team.
I honestly don't care who the manager is so long as the high standards continue and we continue to challenge for Europe and the Top 5.
I'm willing to give Roberto a bit of time because it will be a transitional period until he's settled but if I see Everton slipping and the Top 6 status slowly disappearing then I will absolutely demand Kenwright do something.
I'm all about results and the Top 6 status.

Apart from that, I know the ref had to make an on the spot decision, without the benefit of varied angle, slow motion replays, Distin, did get the ball, and Oscar ran into the sandwich, after that!
Just a point mate!

I'm sorry lads. Losing Moyes was really hard on me. I really want Martinez to succeed. Honestly I do but I miss Moyes so much.
These were your words Dick. We all want Martinez to succeed but move on from Moyes please.
14 Posted 15/09/2013 at 19:22:35
Should that be the case, which, personally, I doubt very much. Do you actually think Bill will listen to you with any conviction?

The real test for me though is RS away, Old Trafford and Arsenal. Our record against the last team is abysmal. But they are for another day.
At the moment, we should be happy with the positives: plenty of options, the defence has been excellent, kids are coming in (there's no way Barkley would have played every game in the League under Moyes) and Lukaku is still to come in.
I hope Lukaku makes his debut in London and that Del Boy starts in the game at the Cottage (West Ham will kick him in the air and, BTW, we have to hope that Nolan doesn't do a hatchet job on Ross)

This result is a great indicator of the fact that under Martinez we will not be overawed by the bigger teams. Its not an indicator that we will always get a result against them, because we won't! But its refreshing to see us happy to attack even late on when holding on which would not happen the same way under Moyes. And I'm not saying that as a hater, I was a big fan, but it definitely points towards a different future, which I am glad for. Its just a much better and satisfying fit to try and attack to win a game, even if on occasion it backfires.

Personally I liked Moyes a lot and understood his philosophy sometimes. But for me he was too cautious. So to see us attack and attack will be fun.
The way Martinez directed Swansea meant they eventually ended up in the Prem. For Wigan it seemed suicidal at times but we got humiliated and they won the Cup. Now he's in charge of a better set of players with more money (just) and a much bigger set of fans, he will only get better.
But expect some cock ups along the way...it won't be perfect but it will be interesting!

The pairing allows for Barkley to work thru how playing with the big boys is drastically different than lording it over fellow teenagers, for one. He can make his mistakes on the ball and the team won't be punished.
Also, makes Osman an impact sub and occasional starter. In that role, he still has something to offer. All for that. Love Ossie, but a regular 90 minutes of leg under him is over and done.

Don't let your fears of the past haunt our future. Moyes wasn't taking us any further and became too scared of his own shadow - a bit like you really. Numerous times Moyes' over-cautious approach cost us dearly i.e. v LFC @ Wembley - never ever ever forgivable. Even last season early on we were doing well and Moyes pulled up the drawbridge to "keep what he had" rather than going for it.
We can't focus on coming 6th season in season out because you don't win anything by coming 6th. Aiming for 6th in the hope of getting in Europe is that what you want? I want to win trophies and if it means finishing7th or 8th or even 10th and winning a cup then I will accept that.

We've got a good team now, although if Barry keeps his form up we'll need to offer him a contract quick, let's be positive for once.
We beat a top side!

Great result. Well deserved. OK, you have to ride your luck in some games, although it wasn't like we gained much from 'lucky' bounces. They either just didn't take, or were prevented from taking, their chances.
Naismith did a good job helping Coleman keep the Hazardous one at bay (mind you, the little bugga still looks a great player) and then was in the right place at the right time to score the goal.
Barry had a fantastic debut. Let's hope it continues.

Re other posts. As I am permanently glass half empty with fingers crossed my optimism rarely gushes over. We have what looks like a very decent squad and I'm looking forward to the time when McCarthy and Kone are among the first names on the team-sheet. Lukaku is an interesting addition who may give many centre backs a big headache but I'll reserve judgement till I've seen him in action. Let's face it. He might be huge but he's still a young lad learning his trade.

Only just seen that. Nice one Ross. Talk about Eats Shoot and Leaves. Apostrophes, anyone?

I believe that all Evertonians should be cautiously optimistic and only a run of victories will cement any thoughts we may have of being a better organization than under Moyes.
West Ham has been a lucky ground for the Blues and I am happy that they play this game before the League cup game at Fulham.
The injuries are clearing up which is making a healthy situation for selection competition and hopefully when Alcarez and Pienaar return it will be even better.
God knows we long suffering fans have been waiting for years to have the club turn the corner and this may just be it.

Also agree Naismith, was excellent, but not quite a MoM candidate. To be honest, considering the expensive array that is Chelsea, I couldn't over all, criticise any of our legion !
Getting back to Barry, as another poster commented on a similar thread, as Fellaini's replacement, if you like, could you have seen (hypothetically) him make that essential clearance, from E'too, after Howard's Howler? Quite categorically. No!
I am surprised, although I shouldn't be, apart from this site, how little the Media have made of our well deserved win, against the widely tipped favourites for the Title this year !
Just watching our next opposition (WEST HAM) and nothing there has impressed thus far!
Sin Miedo ! COYB
