Season › 2013-14 › News Martinez will resist transfer fever , 15 August, 0comments | Jump to most recent Roberto Martinez is leaving the door open to some late business in the transfer window but insists he will not be drawn into spending cash on new players just for the sake of it. The Blues' boss got the bulk of his signings done early, drafting in four new faces within two weeks of his official start date last month and the emphasis then shifted to retaining the talent he inherited from David Moyes. He insists there is little pressure to sell any of those top players and he is reluctant to be drawn into a frenzy of activity as the transfer deadline approaches simply to add new faces to a squad. “You've always got opportunities to bring players in, and I think what's important is that we'll always do that," he says in the Liverpool Echo. “Going into the final day of the window sometimes you have unexpected injuries," he continues, "sometimes you see one or two players from the younger group who you expected to be ready but for whatever reason they weren't ready. “There are different ways of bringing players in without spending huge amounts of money. I will always make sure that it's not a case of getting drawn into the transfer window fever and trying to bring in players just for the sake of it. “In the modern game you have to be creative in the way you bring players in and I've done that many times. It'll be trying to find the right players, with the right personalities who can perform for Everton, so there are always decisions you need to make in terms of the squad, and we'll always keep an eye open." Though his comments could indicate that the recent injury to Darron Gibson has him thinking about how he can strengthen the side while he is still able to, Martinez is focused on the season opener for now. “If we find the specific individual who can help the group we've got, I will never say no," he says. "At the moment all I'm concerned about is the group and making sure we're fit and prepared for Norwich on Saturday.” Gibson is an injury doubt after tweaking his knee in the friendly against Betis on Sunday and Arouna Kone might still be lacking match fitness but the Blues should be in good shape for the trip to Carrow Road, particularly as no fresh concerns cropped up over the international break.
