Man Utd bid £28M for Baines and Fellaini
In an unprecedented move, Everton have issued a club statement confirming rejection of a double bid from Manchester United labelled 'derisory and insulting' for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.

Director of Communications, Alan Myers issued the following:

Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players. Those bids were immediately rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting.

The Club did not make public these details as it was vital Roberto Martinez's preparations for the opening game of the Premier League season were not disrupted in anyway.

According to The Echo, Manchester United's offer, which was made by chief executive Ed Woodward only 48 hours before the start of the new Premier League season, is understood to have left considerable bad feeling on Merseyside — especially given that Fellaini's true market value is widely considered to be in excess of the £23.5m clause in his contract which expired on July 31. A £16M bid for the Belgian was tied to a repeat of the £12M for Baines, which had already been rejected by Everton.

A letter of rejection, reputed to be from Everton, that began circling online on the Busby Way website wherein director Jon Woods appeared to admonish the United board for not honouring an agreement that Moyes would not be back for any of his old players, has been declared a fake by Myers on Twitter.
