Season › 2013-14 › News Martinez irked by Moyes comments Lyndon Lloyd , 25 August, 0comments | Jump to most recent The transfer window doesn't close for another eight days but, his own plans notwithstanding, it's clear that Roberto Martinez would prefer it to be already out of the way. With Everton's relationship with David Moyes souring over the ex-manager's suggestion in the media yesterday that the Blues should do what is best for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines and let them join Manchester United this summer, the Spaniard revealed his disappointment over the situation after the goalless draw with West Bromwich Albion. Though Martinez insists he doesn't want to "get into a media war with a manager I really respect," he made it clear that he does not appreciate Moyes openly discussing players under contract at Everton. "If managers start talking about players who are registered at other clubs, that is the end of the whole thing," he is quoted in the Daily Mail. "I think everyone should look after their own things internally. The business should be done quietly. It is really unfortunate when you read papers and people talk about your players." Referring again to the derisory offer lodged by United last week for the two players, with specific reference to the under-cutting of the Belgian's value, Martinez said: "Everyone has got a price (but) when you invest money in a player and five years later you get offered the same money after performing really well, that becomes a little bit of a nonsense. "They did waste their time. When you put an offer that is below what you spend, I am sure you expect it to be rejected." And the Blues' new boss couldn't resist a quip at his predecessor's expense, remarking, "[a]s a new manager, I am following the structure we have at the football club. I heard in the past that Everton never sold cheap." As much as Martinez has tried to draw a line under the issue, the expectation is that United will be back with an increased offer in the coming days. "Remember that the position we have got is we don't want to sell, so then you haven't got a figure," the 40 year-old continued. "I am not going to go along with the circus the transfer window can become. It has been a bit of a farce really." Quotes or other material sourced from Daily Mail About these ads © ToffeeWeb
