Distin in apparent confrontation with travelling fans

'They don’t seem to be happy when we don’t win or only draw'
An exchange of words between Sylvain Distin and an Everton fan at the conclusion of Saturday's frustrating draw at Crystal Palace is receiving increasing media coverage after the incident spilled over onto Twitter. The scene was captured by photographers with the player and supporters gesticulating at each other before the Frenchman was escorted back down the tunnel.

Though Distin denies there was anything to the confrontation, another supporter appears to flash him an offensive sign before the player is led away, while Jamie Daniels, the fan at the centre of the exchange, complained on Twitter that the player had accused Everton's travelling fans of a lack of support.

Distin is quoted in The Express as saying: “They don't seem to be happy when we don't win or only draw. They have to realise that we have a new manager and a new style of play and they need to be patient.”

Those comments offer a different interpretation than his immediate posts to his Twitter account after the game where he said that he could "understand the reaction of some fans," and accused the Daily Mail of mis-representing the situation.

"I know my English isn't perfect," he continued, "but I found it funny how people try to twist my words.

"And for the record, I was speaking to one single person and he knows who he is as I spoke to him face to face.

"And then people wonder why players interact with the fans. This is why, Because people twist your words and a simple chat is turned into fight."

In his tweets, Daniels told the defender not to question the support of Evertonians and claimed that Distin had compared the away fans unfavourably with the vocal Crystal Palace fans supporters.
