Deulofeu not concerned by pace of his progress

Gerard Deulofeu says he is happy with the pace with which he is adapting to life in the Premier League as Roberto Martinez brings him on gradually over the course of his loan spell from Barcelona.

Martinez has stated his belief that Evertonians will see the best of the Spanish teenager after the New Year but there has still been talk in some quarters about his lack of starts so far for the Blues this season.

The 19 year-old, whom Martinez has hinted could figure from the start in this weekend's Merseyside derby, isn't fazed, though, saying: "My objective is to improve as a player and to go back to Barcelona to play for the maximum number of years possible."

"Now, I am very calm about my adaptation to the Premier League. Game by game, I fulfil my mission.

"I am young and I need to work every day to obtain my targets."

Deulofeu has started two games for Everton thus far, both in the League Cup, the first of which he scored in to help the Blues beat Stevenage in the second round.
